Minecraft is still a fairly good game, but it's just not as effective as before because it stopped being in that almost constant evolution state it once was in. What was great with the game for a while was that you would keep playing it because the concept was new and because you knew new stuff would be added, and everyone believed it would lead to something significant. When the updates started failing to meet the people's expectations, the game started to lose its magic (I remember being really disappointed with the adventure update back when it was released because the game just fell the exact same as before, they just reworked a few lines of code and that was about it).

It's kind of sad that for this to have happened, literally no one even LOOKED at the text before putting it in the game, they just took the text file they were sent and chucked it in, they can't have even opened it because that would mean they would've seen the text and removed it, just download, copy paste without so much as looking inside the file, save. Quality control.

As a few people have stated before, Minecraft is what happens when an ideas guy gets a basic grasp of coding and as expected, fails to follow through on it. He wanted to make about 15 games at once but was too sold on the popularity of Minecraft and tried to put all 15 of his game ideas into the one.

This isn't even in a release, though. It's just in one of the weekly snapshots. And it does get better pretty much every week now, with the snapshots. They're just not official releases.

Minecraft was cool at the time because nobody had really seen anything like it before. It got pretty popular through youtube and by people making incredible things with it and from there the popularity just exploded. Everyone had it, everyone played it, everyone talked about it. Every week or so there would be a new update with some nice changes, people were excited about what to expect, it was fun. Now, the game gets crap updates that nobody cares about, is riddled with bugs and despite being a released game has clear signs of not being finished.

Notch doesn't work on minecraft anymore, it's in the hands of jeb who is doing a fantastic job so far of updaing enemy ai and even adding in the new jungle biome that looks amazing, along with all the other stuff that no doubt is being worked on right now. Notch was lazy yes, but this time in charge is over.

The good new stuff isn't made by notch but by Jeb who just recently took the fat guy's place, which can at least give back some hope.
