This isn't even in a release, though. It's just in one of the weekly snapshots.
And it does get better pretty much every week now, with the snapshots. They're just not official releases.
Fucking finally, I was scrolling through the thread to see if anyone mentioned that it was just a snapshot and it took until this page for someone to say it.
This thing is NOT a big deal; it didn't even make it into the real game. It's a development version intended for testing changes, specifically so shit like this gets smoothed out before it's put into the actual game. It's something racially offensive, though, so of course everybody and every news site explodes over it and makes it into a much bigger deal than it actually is...
Am I the only one who thinks notch ditching minecraft is pathetic? Never seems to come up as a reason for the hate but I think it's a pretty big one.
the "the best gamers" 1.0 review (not the one for the beta) is actually a proper review pretty much entirely, probably the only one theyve actually done, i wouldn't say they were wrong in any way on that one
What makes it an actual review? Did they say it was one? Or are you just one of those people that watches Zero Punctuation and says, "HA ha, so true" only when he reviews games you hate?
holy shit that changelog is sweet, I guess, back to minecraft!

...for two hours.
then you realize it's nothing special and back to whatever you usually play.

Notch leaving Minecraft isn't really pathetic. He put someone we can trust in his place, Jeb is a good developer in comparison it seems, the snapshots are actually improving the game, fleshing out the survival mode more. Though it would be nice if he did one big update of bugfixes. But he can't, because the community is made of children who complain when nothing new is added, and complain when new things are added because of the bugs it can produce.
Notch never abandoned the game, he just gave up as lead developer as he noticed that he wanted to work on other things, but couldn't while maintaining Minecraft, and that the community was starting to hate him more and more.

Notch had pretty much organized a giant progressive ditching of his game ever since he started increasing the quantity and length of his vacations.
Also I'm pretty sure a massive glitch fix update wouldn't be torn away by the community, as long as it's, well, massive. So far the glitch fixes have been really scarce and rarely on important stuff, making one massive update that really fix pretty much everything in the game, even if it takes half a year, would be welcome by everyone, especially now that we're used to rare updates. It would also be nice if with the update they made a long dynamic changelog that showed everything that was fixed so far, and that is going to be regrouped in one big update.

Because it wasn't in the style of their other reviews?
Are you stupid?

I've seen it, it's pretty just just like Zero Punctuation review, except not funny. Like, ZP, it's part fact, mostly nitpicking and and irrational judgments based off the reviewers bias toward certain types of games.
UPDATE
‘Prankster’s’ Racial Slur Found in Minecraft Won’t Be Removed til Next Update
Minecraft's head developer has elaborated on how a racial slur made it into a "snapshot build" of Minecraft's PC version, noting that it was not pushed to all users. As such, Mojang, the game's maker, won't remove the offensive language until the next such update.
"Snapshot builds," as Jens Bergensten explained, " are intended to give eager users a preview of the update to come," and update about once a week. Users must opt in to receive the builds, so what comes in them is not a true, full update sent to all 5 million premium users.
The furor arose when it was noticed that switching the game's language option to Afrikaans, a language spoken natively in South Africa and Namibia, returned a button option that said "You are a NIGGER." Mojang immediately apologized and Bergensten blamed crowd-sourced translation for the inclusion of the offensive language. He elaborated on that in a statement to Kotaku.
"In these snapshots there are about 50 language files translated by the community, and it happens that they are ruined by pranksters," Bergensten said. "Players are quick to find and fix these, so they are removed in the next snapshot."
"Snapshot builds" are useful to Mojang because they help identify bugs and provide feedback on new features in progress. It's also a way to show eager, avid users what is coming next.
However, as "snapshot builds" are pushed out weekly, this code won't be fixed to remove the offensive language until the next build rolls out, which Bergensten said will be Thursday.
"I usually only do panic updates when there are severe bugs, such as bugs that corrput save files, or make the game unable to connect to servers, and such," Bergensten told Kotaku.

Whereas ZP actually reviews games to some extent, in between snippets of brit humor, TBG are pretty much just the essence of horrible game reviews. I can't take them seriously for the life of me, what with all the shit they spew and whatnot.
I don't see how the two are anything alike though. ZP listed both Pros/cons about the game. TBG on the other hand, just have their biased little circlejerk of hatred. :v:

Exactly. The way I see it is they reviewed Minecraft like it was a different type of game. They reviewed it based solely upon the RPG/Adventure elements of the game and said that "you'd have to be autistic to try building anything" (if you are autistic, I mean you no offense but I'm fairly certain TBG does). The way I see minecraft is it's a building game with some adventure elements being gradually tacked on, elements that are incomplete and can be completely turned off with the click of a few buttons. And let's not forget those other false points he made like the whole "developer graphics", I've worked on game design myself, Minecraft does not use "developer graphics". Don't get me wrong some of the points they made were good, but they did make up several flaws that aren't there, and neglected to mention every single positive aspect of it.

That's about as sensationalist as it gets. The snapshots aren't even updates. So saying it won't be removed until the next update is stupid.
New rule: Don't cite Kotaku, ever.

Yahtzee said it himself, nobody likes it when he's positive toward a game, and things like how he refuses to review multiplayer parts of games because he hates multiplayer highlight how you can't rely on them for anything but humor.
It's funny because Afrikaans is a predominantly white language.
Actually a lot of the people here hate on minecraft because it's this cool concept but the devs never seem to actually add anything to it anymore except the occationa animal and items.
This.
Not necessarily, I can easily see this happening in just about any other game. It's just the matter of how well you actually moderate what is getting translated. The fact this got through shows they're not doing much of anything to assure these translations are even legit.
you obviously don't understand that it's a snapshot build which is CREATED to find if all the translations/coding are correct
