"Likely" without any of the likely.
They're not going to do anything. The country isn't run by Cobra Commander, for christ's sake.
Exactly, I was saying that in the off case that they did do something, that's probably what they would do. Everyone would point their fingers at the US if assange died no matter how it happened anyways.
Why would Julian Assange get the penalty? He merely represents a website that leaked the documents. He didn't acquire the documents himself. He didn't hack into the government databases and steal them. Those where probably done by people that are already dead. The US Government is a fucking joke.

I can't wait until all of the old senile politicians die off or retire and we finally get a new generation of smarter, more logical, and more technologically informed politicians.
I can't wait until all of the old senile politicians die off or retire and we finally get a new generation of smarter, more logical, and more technologically informed politicians.
Its strange dont you think that while the new generation is smarter then the old the politician, the politicians are 1 to 2 more generations then the public.
now the file's password will be released.
Torture would make a lot of sense, though, if you think about it. Then again, why go after Assange? Why not capture one of the people working for Wikileaks and waterboard the fuck out of them until they give upo the names of the people leaking the docs
I can't wait until all of the old senile politicians die off or retire and we finally get a new generation of smarter, more logical, and more technologically informed politicians.
lol you think that new politicians aren't going to turn out like current day politicians
lol you think that new politicians aren't going to turn out like current day politicians
I didnt know we still used slaves and didnt allow women to vote. Humanity gets smarter over time.
all of the politicians of our generation are going to be the children of the politicians and executives of today. And they will all call themselves or imply that they are libertarians when they are running for election, and then switch to authoritarian as soon as the elections are over, just like now. Watch it happen. edit: also on topic if julian assange was officially killed by the US government or assassinated or anything, nobody would do anything because they don't want to be called a terrorist or a psychopath. maybe one or two people would do something. and it would be blamed on videogames or catcher in the rye and everyone would get sad/angry for two weeks and then forget about it.
I didnt know we still used slaves and didnt allow women to vote. Humanity gets smarter over time.
the reason that changed was because the people wanted it not the politicians
the reason that changed was because the people wanted it not the politicians
I didnt know politicians were lizards
I didnt know politicians were lizards
You have no idea.
Shit, if the US gave him the chair, they'd be in for a world of hurt with everywhere else.
Its strange dont you think that while the new generation is smarter then the old the politician the politicians are 1 to 2 more generations then the public.
America has an extremely high incumbency rate. So high that politicians are able to easily get reelected after being arrested on corruption charges. In some states the incumbency rate is higher than that of the Soviet Union at it's height. The reason there are so many old people in office is because it's so damn hard to get rid of them.
It's true. Assange is protected by EU law, in that case, just like Bradley Manning is protected for now since the American government isn't allowed to punish someone without a fair tria- It's only legal if the government breaks the law. Fight for transparency of government, and exposing of corruption: Get death sentence Torture person with no trial in direct violation of founding principles of country: Totally legit.
The difference between Bradley Manning and Julian Assange is that Bradley is a soldier and thus falls under the jurisdiction of military law, which is a lot harsher than civilian law in such cases as this; and he is already in US hands, whereas Julian is not. So take your paranoia somewhere else, thanks; Assange is not going to face the death penalty, or even likely to be extradited to the US.
Fucking hell, who WRITES these ridiculous titles? It's not remotely likely he'll face the death penalty - only his legal team claims that. Please, someone change this to: ""Wikileaks' Julian Assange likely to face US death penalty", claims legal team." Come on, Starpluck, don't be so obviously anti-US biased. Ontopic: Ridiculous defence from a puffed-up, egotistical man. Anyone with two brain-cells to rub together can see that there is no reasonable risk that Assange would, in the event of his extradition to the US, somehow be sent to Guantanamo Bay, nor any reasonable risk that he would ever face torture. The fact his legal team posted this argument publicly is obviously meant to provoke an emotional knee-jerk reaction in favor of Assange and against the US, along the lines of "US WANTS TO TORTURE ASSANGE".
I'm no Assange fan but this is fucking ridiculous. Prison? Sure. Death penalty? Who the fuck came up with this and what substances were they (ab)using at the time? How is that even justified? And of course the 'rah rah fight da powa' angsty teens of FP show up shouting that all governments should be fully transparent and are in some sort of weird illusion that complete and utter honesty about everything will work out fine and dandy, what a surprise.

Read the fucking thread. I'm not sure who to blame- starpluck for bringing the topic at hand, or the people who just aren't reading.
