It could. Couldn't it?
What so it's not a problem until it DOES? Honestly, ask yourself, what PURPOSE could releasing that document serve, do you or I need to know of NATO plans to protect people? No. Does it detail any terrible inhumane crime that the public should be aware of? No. Does it detail some measure of government corruption that the public should be aware of? No.
Just stop. If you are just going to be one of those people that waits until something horrible happens before you admit that there is a problem, then you are of no value.
It's better than being fearful of something that hasn't happened yet. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] And I agree that there are useless leaks out there, but there are some absolutely shocking ones as well. And I support it for that reason, and also for the assumption that no ill has occured yet. I'm not scared of wikileaks, simply.
Also, Sweden... please stop being the US's bitch! Remember who you are! :sweden:
USA has already threatened that if Sweden does not do as the US says, we're considered enemies.
I'm not scared of it either, but a guy who is wielding that much power in the form of information should have a good head on his shoulders and know what should be released and what should remain secret.

There is something terribly, terribly wrong with the world when a democratically elected government will quite frequently act in a way that, to the majority of it's citizens, is abhorrent.
USA has already threatened that if Sweden does not do as the US says, we're considered enemies.
...When?
US democracy more like temporary monarch
Good! Assange is a wanker and bastardized free speech. He also rapes women.
USA has already threatened that if Sweden does not do as the US says, we're considered enemies.
What? Inb4 ww3 [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Good! Assange is a wanker and bastardized free speech.
Masturbate your intelligence all over the thread harder
Wikileaks leaks NATO plan to protect Baltic people from potential Russian aggression. Remember that one? Wikileaks: hurp durp, US is after me, so fuck them NATO countries as well, I'll just release something that could destroy international relationships.
That's a contingency strategy plan. All militaries make those, for all possible situations they can think of; it's no surprise the US would have one for the Baltics, they probably have ones for every corner of the globe, as does Russia. If it had been a secret military alliance treaty between the US and the Baltic states, then that would have been what you described.
Masturbate your intelligence all over the thread harder
Free speech wasn't made to leak super secret government files. Look at me, I'm an awkward teenager who doesn't understand world politics. Fucking Liberals.
We haven't heard anything about the US government itself pushing for extradition yet, so hold your horses. It's pretty much just him saying there's a risk Sweden will send him to the US. Considering it's illegal for EU member states to extradite someone to a country where they face a risk of torture or execution, that's not likely. I doubt the US has their tendrils that deep in the Swedish government. (in the cables, it makes quite a few mentions of the Swedish government altering or flat out refusing some requests in regards to all that piracy business)
This. Right now the BBC is being a fucking tabloid. I used to trust the BBC, but this is just irresponsible reporting. The US hasn't asked for him to be extradited at all.

It doesn't mention anywhere in the article that the US is pushing for extradition, just that his defence team has claimed it's likely in the document they wrote and posted on some site.
Guys, I know this is bad and all but what did you think was going to happen? Give him medal and all will be good? Does not work like that guys... He was dead the moment he posted the first document.
I wouldn't really say dead, but there's certainly a price on his head right now
You guys are ABSOLUTELY right! We should reveal all the government's secrets worldwide! That will show those puppets who's boss! Hey I got another idea, how bout we make all those nasty nuclear launch codes public?! No more hiding things from us you government pigs! Who cares if its not our secrets to give away? Who cares if we aren't even citizens of those countries? Who cares if it does more harm than good? We deserve to know the truth! Sarcasm aside, come on, did you really think he would get off scad free? Its neither his information to give, nor is he a citizen of the nation's whose secrets he made public. Secondly, I see you all talking as though this is gonna be some massive revolution, yet I bet if Julian put a rifle in your hands this minute and told you to charge the "puppets" line, you wouldn't be so cocky. Third, what do you think this will change? Do you think that people will have more freedom? Do you think the world will be at peace? If anything, revealing this kind of information would turn allies against each other, destroy any attempts at diplomacy, and possibly throw us into another world war, figuratively speaking of course. Sure we citizens have a right to know what our government is doing behind our backs, but the time must be right, during an anti-terrorism campaign is not the best time to be throwing secret documents into the public realm of the internet, where psychopaths and teenagers with too much time on their hands can get them. Well that's my bit said, probably a bit long but I felt it had to be said. In closure, good day to you sirs, good luck with your new world order and whatnot.

My opinion is that we actually do require a revolution of sorts. The banking system is just too fucked up right now to have any faith in it. Credit cards.. student loans. To get anywhere substantial you have to let some other institution suck you dry.

Starpluck, this misleading title led the anti-US brigade to comment without even reading the damn article. Nowhere does it state that the US is looking to extradite and try him, and it especially doesn't state they are looking for a death penalty. All you have are the paranoid ramblings of a guy who already fears every form of government. The least you could do is use the BBC's original title: Wikileaks' Julian Assange 'fears US death penalty'

Well then good sir I apologize that my writing doesn't meet your standards. However even if someones writing is bad I still try to read it so that I fully understand their point of view and opinions.

Doesn't surprise me at all.
Nice photoshop.
Haha, sure. You changed your rating to dumb, please don't assume we fall for shit like that.
Haha, sure. You changed your rating to dumb, please don't assume we fall for shit like that.
I ironically rated myself dumb, I never rated myself agree. Stop flaming me, bro.

It's the just the paranoid musings of somebody who thinks the entire world wants him dead or something. And if he does end up in prison? The world keeps turning and Wikileaks continues to exist.

The public is antsy, it wants everything back to *Insert Happy Time Era*.
