they were a war-based society who emphasized the fact that if you had an army of lovers you could conquer all, so they encouraged relations on all grounds. Wasn't too uncommon back in the day, the romans had casual sex more often with the guys and procreational with the girls
Υou can't call Spartans barbaric fags. This kid just saw the movie, maybe read some shit online and now thinks he can call Spartans barbarians... Jesus, Spartans had theaters some centuries BC (just an example). What culture are we talking about for the rest of the world back then? Zero! And movie actually shows Spartans to be much more barbaric than they were. Kids, for instance, didn't just prepare for war. They were also being educated and stuff (reading, writing, music and dancing besides physical training).
Can people not read? I mean the very first sentence of the article says he fears he could face the death penalty, despite the fact that they may not even extradite him to Sweden let alone the U.S. The article never mentions whether the U.S. is even seeking to have Assange extradited or even want to have him charged for a crime within the U.S. court system. This is the most biased title on this site even Glaber makes less biased titles. Of course this is to be expected because Starpluck supports totalitarian Iran who "officially" executed at least 7.5 times the people than the U.S. did in 2009, not including the protesters killed. He claimed that Ahmadenijad is a good person because he sold a piece of shit $2000 car for charity despite the fact he oppresses his own citizens with the Basij militia and opposes basic human rights. I honestly hate the U.S. government for plenty of things they've done but when you literally support a dictator just because the U.S. doesn't like them which is ridiculous. For the record I think the Assange charges are complete bullshit. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] I mean fuck look at the democracy index: [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/df/Democracy_Index_2010_green_and_red.png[/img_thumb] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_index Iran is ranked 158 out of 167 and is ranked lower than Libya, Laos, China, Vietnam and even the fucking Democratic Republic of the Congo where there's been civil war for decades. The U.S. is 17th. I mean what the fuck, Starpluck? EDIT: Another Chart: [img_thumb]http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/4d/Failed-states-index-2010.png[/img_thumb]
he's not going to get the death penalty, he didn't commit a capital offense. he'll probably get like 15 years no parole, depending on who actually ends up convicting him
In the same way my testicles are really nuclear weapons. He was just a dictator by another name.
because there are no communist dictators lol [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
since when did that warrant the death pentaly?
a dictatorial management style doesn't, but focusing the organizations efforts on hurting americas international relations and image is pretty fucked

The US would say very differently. They are torturing one of the guys who leaked, I'm sure they wouldn't hesitate to off assange
because there are no communist dictators lol
Is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea democratic because they say so? Is the Democratic Republic of the Congo democratic because they say so? Communism, at it's core, is a stateless system i.e. no government. Essentially, it's a pipe dream, a utopian vision. What the world has had are a bunch of authoritarians calling themselves communist.

Homosexuality was compulsory. From the age of like six they'd have to go through ridiculous physical training all the way into adulthood. I have much more respect for Athens than I do Sparta.. Except for the sexism in Athens, besides that, Sparta was a pretty fucked up society.

They quite clearly do not fit that, or even their own claimed variants of communism i.e. Maoism, Bolshevism etc; they are blatantly authoritarian. Why bother editing the definition of communism to fit them when there is already a definition that suits them?

I'm Greek, I know much more than you'll ever learn about Spartan Culture... I've been learning these stuff for years.
probably because you're a flabby leftist who is offended by masculine pursuits like war and anal sex
I think that, through childhood, it is probably detrimental to habitually whip the shit out of them while they're learning the 'art of war,' or the 'cover you in hot oil in the sun and beat the shit out of eachother' coming age ritual that existed in those times. And yeah.. Compulsory pedophelia also existed.. The newer soldiers would get an older 'mature' male mentor.. I'm judging my opinion based on the extensive reading I've done about each state. Maybe you have been learning about it for years, but I do believe I know enough to atleast be savvy when discussing ancient Sparta & Athens. Just because youre greek doesn't mean I can't partake in the conversation. THat doesn't mean you don't know more about it than I do, though.

Oh god damn it, I was feeding another damn troll
it's to toughen them up, so that when the time comes they could control the bydlo helot population (in which your ancestors are included) and repel the foreign hordes.
Cool. And yes, I do know all about the helots. (There sure were a damn lot of them.) I don't really care I think it's fucked up. Fascinating.. but still pretty fucked up.

And I didn't say you can't partake in the conversation, it's just that I hate all these 12-year-olds who watched the hollywood shit and think they can judge. If you don't know much, discuss, don't judge. It's a whole other thing.
I don't think it is technically Treason, since treason is betrayal of your own nation. However, the logic that Teal Moose is using means that spies are completely fine. You stick a Russian spy inside the government and he steals information, completely fine! Not really though...
Except for the fact that the goal of Assange's venture was to expose corruption and injustices indiscriminately regardless of nation. The US was not singled out as the sole bad guy here nor were the leaks meant to cause harm to US citizens. It's my government acting in its own interest, again.
This man is just a drama whore. Hopefully people realize he isn't worth the trouble and blow him off. He only said this to cause drama.
Why, for any reason, would Assange receive the death penalty? You can't do that in the US unless your crimes have resulted in the death of another human being.
US government needs to just fuck off really! if they don't like they're dirty little secrets ( which should be publicly know anyway ) getting out they should do a better job of covering them.
Woah man I just told your biggest secret to everyone, don't get mad okay?? COME ON MAN PLEASE DONT GET MAD :(((( ITS YOUR FAULT REALLY I SWEAR [editline]11th January 2011[/editline]
Such is the way of the foul coward. When their bad plans are revealed, they demand the head of the one who tore away the veils of deceit. If anything there should be fires outside the White House right now, but of course everybody's too lazy and too cowardly to act against the one who holds their leash, and they can't figure out that even though they can't move away from the walker, they can still move close enough to bite the walker on the leg.
Hahahahaha yeah, just because you angsty guys think all secrets should be revealed doesn't mean real adults do
You're also not allowed to torture people in the US, but that doesn't stop waterboarding, sleep deprivation, and 23 hour solitary confinement from happening in supposedly the most civilized place on Earth.
Cuba is hardly the most civilized place on Earth
Open rebellion commence now. RED JANUARY
How would extraditing someone to Sweden of all places be torture? I do not like this guy at all. He has violated espionage act of 1917 which states: "To convey information with intent to interfere with the operation or success of the armed forces of the United States or to promote the success of its enemies. This was punishable by death or by imprisonment for not more than 30 years or both. " Mr. Assange has before stated that he has the intent of harming the US armed forces in the current wars. But still, how is extraditing him to Sweden, The neutral country, torture.
Maybe the fact that people don't question, and outright believe, that the US is going to kill Assange is testament to the US' reputation. [editline]11th January 2011[/editline] I didn't mean Cuba...
Guantanamo Bay is where the bad stuff happens and it's in Cuba heh
;27358011']How would extraditing someone to Sweden of all places be torture?
Have you been forced to walk from Britain to Sweden? I think not. Back during the chaotic days of rebellion in England they imprisoned us for years and then to extradite us they opened our jail cells and forced us to walk thousands of miles from there to sweden, I must mention that as their is no land route we had to swim. Only one man in the group, Jesus made the trip with his sanity preservered, when I asked him how he walked on the surface of the water he asked me "You can't walk on this obviously solid mass of transparent blue shit?"
Open rebellion commence now. RED JANUARY
Yeah, you do that.
Yeah, but it's operated and controlled by the US isn't it?
Yeah, ehh, they torture people that have done terrible things.
;27358011'] But still, how is extraditing him to Sweden, The neutral country, torture.
Haha you're thinking of Switzerland. Whenever I have second thoughts about defending Wikileaks, I remember how retarded the opposition is.
