Exactly. They don't know where it's going. Fuck, it could take a right turn right now.
Um, no. There's only a small deviation that could take place learn how pressure systems work.
The best case is that it barely scrapes the coast or stays just off or it downgrades, but I doubt it will get that much weaker it's going to hit the gulf stream at least on its outer edges.

Isn't it supposed to pass directly over the gulf stream within the next few hours?
Isn't it supposed to pass directly over the gulf stream within the next few hours?
Yes and look at it. It's already making landfall. Best case scenario now is if the eye somehow stays offshore. But it's already passing over warm water, it could be upgraded any time now, but they have to fly specially modified planes to get accurate wind speed and I don't know how often they do that.
I keep forgetting that the gulf stream is so close to shore so in my head I was thinking it's further east but it's not. Looks like the eye's about to pass over it/is currently passing over it.

Same temp as the gulf when Katrina passed over it, hope it doesn't strengthen.

Actually, this isn't officially considered "landfall" for the storm. They're just being impacted by the very outer rain bands, with the hurricane officially making landfall later tonight.
As far as the path of the storm goes, the eye might miss but the storm is all but required to pass directly over the gulf stream.
The storm hasn't really impacted land yet. You're probably just feeling the outer rain bands.
I know that. My entire county is inland, so we're getting little bursts of rain as each arm swipes by us. Nobody really expected them to close the school early (they're really frugal with school hours, since one delay means more money spent and they're really poor right now), but after lunch they just let us all go.
Really hope this doesn't hit us as hard as Isabel did, power out for a week or two doesn't sound like fun.

Schools generally tend to err on the side of caution, in large part because they are responsible for the lives of their students. Businesses are the same way. If you are forcing your students or your employees to come in to work/school or stay too late, you are responsible if anything happens to them.

Yeah I know it officially doesn't, official landfall is the core. The outer bands will still bring heavy rains and potentially thunder. For example all throughout tonight it's forecasted that wind speed will rise to 40 mph by 3 am but it officially hits my area around 2 pm.
How long until this thing reaches New Jersey/New York?

Um...Hurricanes don't cause volcanoes to erupt.

So now it's saying it'll go from Cat 1 to Tropical Storm by the time it hits LI?
That's sort of a relief.

He's talking about all the paranoid conspiracy theorists talking out of their asses. Don't you think that if it was going to critical that we'd do something to prepare for it?

Probably. It looks as if it's going to hit North Carolina which will weaken it a lot before it gets back into the ocean.

Exactly my point.
Exactly my point.
Yeah.
And..how the fuck would a hurricane cause a volcano to erupt? WHEN ITS NOT EVEN NEAR THE GOD DAMN VOLCANO!

No man, the government knows, man! and like, they're not telling everyone because they don't want them to panic and stuff, man. It's where they're going to start the New World Order and stuff, man! I heard about this on above top secret, they think were all sheep and stuff, man. You can't trust them and stuff.

Sweet! I'll crash at my cousin's place in Nassau once the storm hits NYC.
Well being in Upstate New York and already a tropical storm warning. Knowing Hurricane Bob I can say I'm fucked. Welp back to Price Chopper to get more supplies.
