A British film about Charles Darwin has failed to find a US distributor because it's boring.
Really, guys. We're in a recession. The U.S. movie market is aiming for the highest number of audiences it can reasonably bring in at any given time with the lowest ticket prices possible. Escape fiction and explosions are the top sellers this time of year normally, and the last two years they've done better than expected! Yet this biopic "looks to be a medium specialty performer" based on it's opening in Toronto. What company trying to make a profit wants a movie said to be a "medium" anything (in a supposedly more receptive area, no less) when you're trying your damnedest to pack theaters so you can make a profit selling concessions? A movie that looks to be a mediocre performer abroad isn't even touched by the U.S. immediately after the traditional summer action movie blitzkrieg and we're going to pretend this is a matter of religion? Is anybody here really that fucking dense?

The inference was it had been thrown into question because it was controversial. Action films can be controversial; we're not arguing that it might be a box office flop, but the industry has survived plenty of them.
I can't see any third world countries in that list.
hah. you're right.. my mistake. But still.

to be fair, it does look pretty boring.
to be fair, it does look pretty boring.
More like the kind of movie that you don't expect to clap for, but you go to see what it's like.
More like the kind of movie that you don't expect to clap for, but you go to see what it's like.
i.e. fall for their sensationalist marketing technique
glad i'm not outside of new york or LA
Oh fricking wow. If people don't want to go to see it, let them not go. Let us who want to see it. Geeze.
Oh fricking wow. If people don't want to go to see it, let them not go. Let us who want to see it. Geeze.
You don't get it
i.e. fall for their sensationalist marketing technique
"I made a documentary but nobody wants to publish it" isn't sensationalist.
You don't get it
Explain then please. :raise:
I kind of have to agree with TH89. Controversial movies such as Religulous and the Da Vincie Code have generally done really well in the US and honestly this one does look a little boring.
Grow a fucking spine, Jesus Christ.
Explain then please. :raise:

Grow a fucking spine, Jesus Christ.
The movie hasn't been "banned" because it's about a controversial subject. In fact it hasn't been banned by anyone. The producer just hasn't been able to find any companies willing to distribute it in America, because it's a mediocre movie that has already shown itself to be unable to put asses in seats. As much as the movie's creators would like to pretend otherwise, this has nothing to do with the distributors being "spineless" and "afraid of controversy" and everything to do with them wanting to invest in movies that will actually make them money. Since, you know, they're for-profit companies. Their job isn't to serve the whims of self-righteous Internet Atheists.

This whole anti-American thing is just silly.
Everyone in this thread is either stupid, or using this as a chance to propogate stupid people. The American government has nothing to do with this. It's a distributing company, which can do whatever it wants with the movie. The producers should stop crying and find another one.
50% of Britons are atheists. That's why we're so pro. Sweden is like 80-90% though, fuckin crazy awesome.
China is like 90%+
China is like 90%+
Because they execute most people that aren't
Oh for the love of... Creationists aren't being forced to see it, so why should they care?
anything to prove them wrong is the embodiment of evil, even if the intended point isn't to prove them wrong and instead provide an idea.
Shit like Sorority Row gets distribution and this doesn't ? :smithicide:
Because they execute most people that aren't
Not really no. Also, didn't christians used to burn people at the stake if they didn't believe in God? Oh right.. they did. Even the wrong god got you killed. Where's your superiority now...?
he never created evil. Evil is a lack of good. I will answer you the last question once you can tell me what was before big bang and why it happened. Now i will leave this thread because of high probability of useless flamewar incoming. Whoever has mood to argue with me, can proceed doing it using pm's.
:smug:
Man, where's Canada? I was just kidding about the holocaust by the way.
No one gives a flying fuck about canadianfags [editline]10:14AM[/editline]
Shouldn't it read "Why are you stupid American Christians against the evolution theory?" I guess it makes sense either way, I'm nitpicking. [editline]12:13PM[/editline] Where's your reply to my post? Or was I correct? [editline]12:13PM[/editline] I can understand, it just doesn't look right to me.
Wait a few dumbass americans can't accept the fucking evolutionary theory and we're all idiots/christians? Wow great logical there.

Also, Canadianfags? Go back to 4chan. Just because we don't go stomping everyone's shit so we can make money, rape them of their resources and impose our way of life doesn't mean we don't have our place in the world.
