Jacob C. was 11 years old and living in Michigan when he was convicted of criminal sexual conduct for touching his younger sister’s genitals. After serving a three-year sentence, he was placed on the state’s sex offender registry and forced to live separately from his mother and sister, in a foster home.
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2013/05/07/sex-offenders-aren-t-all-monsters.html
These are the kind of cases that should be dealt with on a case by case basis and have some common sense applied.
That makes me sad.
I wonder who reported him to the police, if it was his parents they're top cunts
There's no such thing as a monster anyway, just somebody fucked by their own circumstances.
I wonder who reported him to the police, if it was his parents they're top cunts
The sister probably bitched about it.
This is the problem with the sex offenders registry. There's little differentiating between active child molesters and little things like this -- no, you're just labeled a "sex offender" either way and you're fucked if you want to return to society.
He was 11 years old what the shit
These are the kind of cases that should be dealt with on a case by case basis and have some common sense applied.
Truth; issues like this should be handled by doctors, not red-robed inquisitors.
The list is becoming meaningless. This case , 18 year olds having sex with 17 year olds and people who molest 4 year olds are all thrown into the same pile. Poor kid, I remember playing "You can touch mine if I can touch yours" once. Not the same but just as BS if we were arrested for it.
There's no such thing as a monster anyway, just somebody fucked by their own circumstances.
this
because fixing it would be helping them evul monstur kiddly diidlers.
I surprised that's not how the politicians and corporations have been marketing SOPA/Cispa, etc.
The sister probably bitched about it.
don't act like it wasn't wrong of him to touch his sister, the label nor the sentence or any of that was needed but it isn't okay to do what he did
The sister probably bitched about it.
Well holy fuck there champ. If he was doing it and his sister was trying to stop him you realize that's sexual result and she's hardly just "bitching about it", right?
So much empathy, kid's fucked for life. He'll probably become a junkie. Well done society.

I never explicitly stated that touching her genitals wasn't wrong. It would be really fucked up if the sister was ~6 or younger, but it's still fucked up at any age.
don't act like it wasn't wrong of him to touch his sister, the label nor the sentence or any of that was needed but it isn't okay to do what he did
Thats why you teach whats wrong and right, instead of fucking up the life of a 11 year old kid who doesn't even knows what he can do with his genitals beyond going to the toilet. The way I see it, she "bitched" about it, and then, someone with an "Hellen Lovejoy complex" went berserk and actually did bitch about it and muck it all up. What do you have now? A "sex offender" who couldn't live in the same house as his parents due to technical bullshit.
you were acting like she was in the wrong for not allowing her brother to grope her
That was how we interpreted it. I'm sure that was not his original intention.
These are the kind of cases that should be dealt with on a case by case basis and have some common sense applied.
this is really silly. the only thing worse than being at the mercy of a broken justice system is being at the mercy of a broken justice system where the judge and jury are allowed to decide whether or not you are "deserving" or mercy based on their emotions.
you're acting like she's in the wrong for not allowing her brother to grope her wtf
Even though I already stated that it's fucked up (but at no point stated it was wrong for her to complain to any degree), the article never really states if it was a deliberate reach for her genitals or an accidental bump (but the HRW video with Jacob makes it seem like deliberate). [editline]7th May 2013[/editline] That's really the only outstanding variable.
It's not like he had sex with his sister. This should be an issue dealt with by the parents.
you were acting like she was in the wrong for not allowing her brother to grope her
You're acting like she was held down and forcibly groped by her brother. Kids do this kind of shit all the time. I'm not even gay, but my buddy and I at that age played the "I wonder what the hell this is- you have one too?" game.

The purpose of the sex offender registry is to let those around, such as police departments you may be required to notify, know that you are a sex offender. The purpose of the registry is to benefit OTHER people, not to help the offender. So of course the offenders are complaining. The two relevant aspects, I think, are: Should the police and/or public be so notified? What crimes should earned the tag 'sex offender'? So then if you say yes, notify the public and anyone who touches the genitals of an underage girl is a sex offender, you can't turn around and say "Why is this 11 year old forced to live with the sex offender label?" because he is in fact a sex offender. A young one to be sure, but a sex offender none the less.

"THE LAWS THE LAW AND THE LAW IS RIGHT CAUSE IT'S RIGHT" that's the stupidity of what you just said
Not gonna pass comment either way on this. Always struck me as odd that a child can be convicted of sexual offences wile not legally being able to consent.
How can anyone defend this? a kids life is ruined, not just impaired, ruined, for good. For ONE thing he did as a fucking 11 year old I don't even get some people.
Do I need to say the obvious here? He's fucking 11 he probably knows about sex from his friends or maybe even seen it on the interwebs, he's too young to even wank. I'm not saying he should be go free without some sort of reprimand but fucking hell sentencing him 3 years in jail, he's 11. When he gets out what's he gonna do? Go to school? Oh Yeah I'm sure he's gonna be every teachers pet the 14 year old who's a fucking sex offender. This isn't a punishment this a fucking scar that will be with him till he dies and he's got his whole life in front of him. God damn.
