Who the fuck cares what age they are? They're rapists for fucks sakes. If they do this shit at this age then I don't even wanna know what happens when they get older. This is a fucking disgrace. "Rightfully children"? Just because they're children doesn't make it less serious of a crime. They raped and thus psychologically damaged a girl, they need to be put away.
I don't want to go into a debate but there are plenty of reasons why a child shouldn't be punished as harshly as adults for something they've done.
My girlfriend still gets bullied for being raped, it does happen. in her case its the attackers friends, one of whom is her own little brother. worst part is i cant do anything about it, legaly or otherwise, when the guy was arrested for it , he got away becuase there "wasnt sufficent evidence" (the little brother who unlocked the door for the rapist the night it happened didnt help this when he lied to the police telling them he wasnt even in the house that night). from what i was told, after the interview he told the police he was "deathly afraid" of me. so now all i can do is watch as he uses her little brother and his friends to bully her about the attack day in and day out "you are just a slut hiding your needs" "you arent even good enough to get raped, will did you a favor" are two lovely little examples of what ive heard them say to her. i reckon its the same in this case, only the rapists equaliy cruel and fucked up friends are bullying her.
Regardless of your view on that, the punishment given was a fucking joke.
What do you think they should get then? Prison for a few years?
What do you think they should get then? Prison for a few years?
Yes
welcome to finnish justice system
Yeah i guess our justice system could use some minor refinement
Yes
Alright so these kids go to jail for 2 years, come out at age 18 and then what... you expect them to be better people by then, get honest jobs or take up on their missed education?
What do you think they should get then? Prison for a few years?
Yes. In my opinion the criminal punishment system in Europe is too soft and set on rehabilitation. I think they should have gotten 3-5 years in jail.
The bullies are as bad as the rapists. Fuck secondary school kids, I don't get how they can all be so degrading to others.
Alright so these kids go to jail for 2 years, come out at age 18 and then what... you expect them to be better people by then, get honest jobs or take up on their missed education?
I'm sure there are programs in place to allow them to get an education. I think the punishment for rape should be way more severe than a few years but anyway.
I'm sure there are programs in place to allow them to get an education. I think the punishment for rape should be way more severe than a few years but anyway.
Yeah there are programs to allow them educations but nobody is going to force them to take it and I highly doubt they're going to take the chance. Send em off to jail for a few years and then when they've done their time send them out and watch them commit worse crimes.
Yeah there are programs to allow them educations but nobody is going to force them to take it and I highly doubt they're going to take the chance. Send em off to jail for a few years and you've just fueled their criminal minds.
Fueled their criminal minds? In what way? Perhaps instead of letting people off they should have programs within prison that attempt to rehabilitate people. Its a joke
School can't/isn't allowed to do shit
Do you mean school in Finland? If this was the states they would be expelled for drinking let alone rape.
Alright so these kids go to jail for 2 years, come out at age 18 and then what... you expect them to be better people by then, get honest jobs or take up on their missed education?
Even a few weeks in jail could be a huge eye opener for these people, so think about what a few YEARS would be? They really have no idea what prison really is. Only thing they know is the stuff they show on CSI. But that's just a guess.
Yes. In my opinion the criminal punishment system in Europe is too soft and set on rehabilitation. I think they should have gotten 3-5 years in jail.
But wouldn't it be better to rehabilitate them rather than 3-5 years in prison then watch them commit more crimes once they get out?
But wouldn't it be better to rehabilitate them than 3-5 years in prison then watch them commit more crimes on they get out?
We rehab them after, or while in prison. They committed a crime, they need to be punished, its as simple as that.
But wouldn't it be better to rehabilitate them than 3-5 years in prison then watch them commit more crimes on they get out?
Why not rehabilitation while they are in prison? They are not being rehabilitated regardless, community service isn't going to do anything.
Yes. In my opinion the criminal punishment system in Europe is too soft and set on rehabilitation. I think they should have gotten 3-5 years in jail.
What's wrong with rehabilitation?
What's wrong with rehabilitation?
It doesn't punish them, it doesn't place any real consequences on their crimes
I see I'm late.
It doesn't punish them, it doesn't place any real consequences on their crimes
It does punish them, it forces them to become better people. Pure punishment though is very short-sighted and won't do when they've done their time.
It does punish them, it forces them to become better people. I don't think anyone is arguing that rehabilitation is bad, but there needs to fitting punishment as well.
It doesn't punish them, it doesn't place any real consequences on their crimes
If it works and they regret their actions after rehabilitation they have to live the rest of their lives knowing they raped and traumatised an innocent girl. Locking someone up isn't the only punishment.
If it works and they regret their actions after rehabilitation they have to live the rest of their lives knowing they raped and traumatised an innocent girl.
The important part is "If it works". Somehow I doubt that this will be the case.
finland, where the financial criminal is the public enemy number one and the serial killer and rapist walks free our justice system is a disservice to the people, should be torn down and reformed completely
And financial enemy is the one who has not paid taxes.
20 euroa vetoa että nää on jotain kulttuurinrikastajia
See, I keep telling people they give us too much credit. Our justice system is fucked up and it's far too lenient. These dicksuckers should've gotten at least 20 years behind bars for something like this. Vittu että pännii.

Essentially, it boils down to us humans bullshitting ourselves that bad things happen to bad people. It's an ego protection mechanism, to convince ourselves that our effort at being good people isn't wasted (and here, when I say "good" I probably mean sharing the same values as the local peer group, and remaining a part of the group). This is an exceptionally well written article going into further detail on the matter: http://youarenotsosmart.com/2010/06/07/the-just-world-fallacy/ As for shoving these two into prison to punish them, that is nothing more than institutionalised revenge. In China, there exist camps for kids with an addiction to the internet. If your parents shoved you into one to punish you for browsing facepunch all day long, you'd wonder what the hell their problem was. Whilst the concept doesn't translate very easily, these 16 year olds almost certainly don't see what they've done wrong. You put them in prison/jail whichever it is, they'll simply emerge pissed off that they've been punished and go and commit more crimes. At the moment, they're a danger to society, and need to be isolated from it, prison being the best option. Once there, they need to be taught why what they did was wrong. How you'd go about that is beyond me, but that is the most effective course of action, not some petty attempt at revenge.
