IF YOU SUPPORT THE THINGS THAT HE SUPPORTS, THEN VOTE FOR HIM
IF YOU WON'T VOTE FOR HIM BECAUSE "HE WON'T WIN"- YOU'RE THE PROBLEM. VOTE FOR HIM SO HE WILL WIN.
As much as I hate to say it, NO third-party candidate has ever come close to the other two parties in terms of votes or support. I think the last time any third-party candidate got any attention at all was Ross Perot, that adorable little gremlin.
But by running as a Democrat, and considering that Hillary is slowly garnering a less-than-stellar reputation, he has a much better chance I feel, even if he does identify as a socialist.
He does have a much better chance running as a Democrat, if he can even make it through the primary, but that was never my concern. If Sanders is to make it through as the candidate for the Democracy party it will come at a general cost to his policies as he appeases the other leanings in the party to at least some degree. Sanders is already a simple social democrat, not a socialist by any definition, and I'd prefer to see an independent social democrat run and lose than compromise more with the Democrats. The best the Democrats could seem to be able to support is a social democrat and that is only on the outskirts, so I don't see them as the best vehicle for any real change so long as they remain the Democratic Party.
Because if he ran alongside a Democrat candidate in the final election he could possibly take enough votes away from the Democrat candidate, who otherwise would have had the most votes, and give the victory to the Republican candidate.
Sacrifices must be made to construct an alternative, and an alternative is what I want. Sticking to the Democratic party as a whole has not made proper progress as it still represented the ideas of the rich, just as the Republics do, only with a bit of a different spin. This is not to say they are the same, they certainly have a degree of separation, but the way forward is not through them for me at least. It is with this in mind that I would have rather seen Sanders even run as a spoil and allow for an independent movement to be formed free of the Democratic constraints, but with his decision made I'll still throw support behind him as a Democratic candidate, since any leftward push is good and it will provide a good time to organize and build up, but I'll look elsewhere for hopes of an alternative.

It's all good and well that you'd be fine seeing Bernie lose, but he has made it clear that his running for president is not about "shifting the conversation" or "making a statement." He wants to win.

Which is exactly why I've stated I'll still support him even if it does not meet my exact preference here. His plan obviously differs from my hopes and there is no possibility of changing that, which is exactly why, as I said in the post you replied to, I'll be looking for that real alternative possibility elsewhere.
Were I American Id vote for Bernie in a heartbeat
I still have to figure out which shitlord to vote for here in Canada
I never understood people who say "He won't win so I wont vote for him." Of course he wont win with that attitude. No one I've ever voted for has taken office, it doesn't mean I shouldn't vote for them.
Vote for who you want to win, not who you think will win.

everyone in the south cause apparently it goes against their religion, and he's the antichrist, and he's gonna drive this nation into martial law, and yaddayaddadumbasstalk. It's a shame people are this fucking dumb, like, it's extremely sad.
All I know is, I'm voting for Sanders, whether he wins or lose. I want him in office, I really do. He's the only level-headed politician, and I agree with all of his stances.

seems like people have been saying "He's not gonna win but Im voting for him anyway"

I'd vote for the lesser of two evils, that'd be Trudeau. Harper lost my confidence after the anti-terror bullshit, but Trudeau would bend more easily if there's a public backlash.
Cool stuff
VT has seen a lot of really level headed politicians

i totally forgot I shook this guys hand before
Honestly, I'm just sad he isn't running as an independent or third party. I'll still support his campaign in the Democratic Party, but building up an alternative would have been much better. At least this will serve as something for the left to regroup over.
minus the fact that running as a third party could potentially jeopardize a liberally controlled white house in 2016. ralph nader is the reason that bush won in 2000.
[editline]29th April 2015[/editline]
i'm pleased that sanders made the obvious correct decision in running as a democrat. it could've been disastrous otherwise given his recent increase in popularity.

Can I get a blow by blow, that video is long as fuck.
I highly doubt a socialist Jew is going to win the election, too many people are close minded.

uhhh Its hard to shorten it. This is a crude TLDR/W.
- Citizens united needs to go
- Campaigns need to be publicly funded
- The middle class is disappearing
- The Trans-Pacific Partnership blows dick and screws us
- Wages are falling
- The rich are exceptionally richer
- The US has the biggest gap in wealth inequality
- Education costs are too damn high
- Healthcare is fucked; he wants a single-payer system
- 0.10% of the top 1% has more wealth than the bottom 40% of the US combined
- "Official" unemployment is truly 1/2 of the real unemployment
- Republicans are protecting those with the wealth
- 99% of all new income goes to the top 1%
- Our infrastructure is in dire straits
- Pro Union
- The minimum wage needs to raised to something around $15 over time
- We need to get off fossil fuels
- Climate change is real.. and we caused it
- A vast majority of elected republicans deny climate change and that humans are the cause of it
Other tid bits
- Hes pro legalization
- hes pro choice
- Hes against the war on drugs
I highly doubt a socialist Jew is going to win the election, too many people are close minded.
This is why elections fail. Saying such a close minded thing only breeds further close mindedness. Politicians are like Santa Claus in childrens movies. the more you believe the more they are real. I know you're canadian but people don't vote because of this exact reason. They support the person but they don't vote. In the end that vote matters much more than any vocal support can.
What happened between him and Burlington College?

Can he attract the middle though? That's what matters. I think a good portion of Democrats want him over Hilary because Hilary is corporate, like it or not. But Hilary has the Clinton last name, and the Clinton years are a good thing to run on. A gamble for Sanders is not worth the risk of a president Cruz. Yes, I'm part of that problem, but that's how politics are. The only way to fix it is Australia's voting system.

He wife was the president of the college?
It's one of the smallest colleges in the country though, I was there last weekend,. It's like one building.
Also, I am probably going to end up being involved in the marketing of his campaign which is pretty cool.
I have a feeling people won't vote for him simply because he's old
I had a friend who, despite being Republican, refused to vote for John McCain because he was "too old"
Still hope he wins though

Imagine if he won... wow.
I guess he wouldn't be able to do much really... he'd have an uphill battle with congress, even if the democrats had a majority, since he's left of most of them.
I find it fascinating that my parents, who are FOX news conservative old people, think Bernie is actually pretty alright.

And how is the president gonna do that? I don't think it's for the president to act on those ideas and put them in practice, but for the parliament. I mean, who makes laws in the US, and who controls spending of the budget?
