World war 1 started for a lot of different reasons. One of them being the french being buttmad about losing territory in the franco prussian war, the ottomans being attacked by the brits, serbia, etc. You can't just point at a single country and blame them for it.
WW1 was basically what happens when you have extreme nationalism everywhere. "My country, right or wrong", "dulce et decorum est" and all that. They all convinced themselves that not only would they inevitably win any war, but that they *wanted* a war.
But it shits on the songs message. No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
The new lyrics promote the same message of living in a world where people can be at peace and still hold different beliefs.
You're also ignoring the fact that the past couple of wars weren't even based on religion. Vietnam: North trying to take out the south World War 2: Nazis try to invade other places, attacking Jews World War 1: Same as above, less Jew hate though Cold war: Political Shitstorm Middle East war (war on terrorism): Rebel forces want our shit outta their country. That's all i'm going to say about it.
>last couple of wars >select 5 wars from over the course of 100 years also the middle east war is about religion and the cold war was fueled partially by religion
Good song choice, dumb alteration but not nearly as bad as "imagine one religion" which I have heard before so it's hard to give too many shits
>last couple of wars >select 5 wars from over the course of 100 years also the middle east war is about religion and the cold war was fueled partially by religion
Hitler was a renowned atheist
The Nazis didn't form until after WW1. But yeah. WW1 was about nationalism and political alliance chain reaction shitstorm. By the way, Political Alliance Chain Reaction Shitstorm would be a great name for a rock band. Once I saw this guy on a bridge about to jump. I said, "Don't do it!" He said, "Nobody loves me." I said, "God loves you. Do you believe in God?" He said, "Yes." I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?" He said, "A Christian." I said, "Me, too! Protestant or Catholic?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me, too! What franchise?" He said, "Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?" He said, "Northern Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist." I said, "Me, too! Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region, or Northern Conservative Baptist Eastern Region?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region." I said, "Me, too!" Northern Conservative†Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879, or Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?" He said, "Northern Conservative Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912." I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over.
So essentially if no one had any ideologies or beliefs no one would fight, but instead we would have a load of sheeple.
Good song choice, dumb alteration but not nearly as bad as "imagine one religion" which I have heard before so it's hard to give too many shits
Yeah didn't they like dub the radio versions of the song back in the day?
So was WW2. Hitler was a renowned atheist
How does this make WW2 'fueled by atheism'? World War 2 was 'fueled' by some grievous misunderstandings of the Jewish people...
He meant well, so I hope shit doesn't hit the fan too hard.
So essentially if no one had any ideologies or beliefs no one would fight, but instead we would have a load of sheeple.
No just no fights/changes due to religion but in the song No we'd just all be peaceful. I'm pretty sure the peace in the song isn't because of some super dictator.
How does this make WW2 'fueled by atheism'? World War 2 was 'fueled' by some grievous misunderstandings of the Jewish people...
World War 2 had nothing to do with the Jews... EDIT: Some of you honestly believe a war between many global powers was fought over the Jews? Read a history book, please.
Hitler was a renowned atheist
Hitler was christian?
No just no fights/changes due to religion but in the song No we'd just all be peaceful. I'm pretty sure the peace in the song isn't because of some super dictator.
We'd also be peaceful if we respected everyone's beliefs.
Hitler was a renowned atheist
don't know if you've read mein kampf but it shows some pretty pro-christian beliefs. Not only that, but his parents were both catholic, his mother very devout.
Hitler was christian?
Hardly, he was a christian in name and that was it
How does this make WW2 'fueled by atheism'? World War 2 was 'fueled' by some grievous misunderstandings of the Jewish people...
WWII was fueled by aggressive expansionism by the Nazi forces. Nobody even knew about the extermination camps until fairly late in the war.
don't know if you've read mein kampf but it shows some pretty pro-christian beliefs. Not only that, but his parents were both catholic, his mother very devout.
He turned on the catholic church and tried to replace it with his own church that put nazi ideology over the bible.
We'd also be peaceful if we respected everyone's beliefs.
I really doubt it
You're also ignoring the fact that the past couple of wars weren't even based on religion. That's all i'm going to say about it.
World war I started mainly because AH wanted to stop the spread of pan slavicism and stabilize control of The Balkans (under it's own rule), and Serbia was seen as main obstacle in it. French used that as an advantage for previous war with Germany, Germany was allied with Austria and chain reaction began.
WW1 was basically what happens when you have extreme nationalism everywhere. "My country, right or wrong", "dulce et decorum est" and all that. They all convinced themselves that not only would they inevitably win any war, but that they *wanted* a war.
I have to say this is wrong, at least in Serbia's case. It was already tough after 2 Balkan wars, and they had to rebuild the country. They accepted all points of AH's ultimatum except the one where they have right to do investigation about the assassination on Serbia's territory. Do note that AH knew that Serbia would turn down that ultimatum and just wanted an excuse to attack Serbia. Unfortunately for them, they lost the war and exactly opposite of what they wanted happened.
I really doubt it
So let me get this straight. If we respected everyone's beliefs, we'd still go to war over those beliefs. Yet, if we removed the beliefs entirely, there would be absolutely no war? Sounds good.
We'd also be peaceful if we respected everyone's beliefs.
But they're different beliefs and once they're thrown into the mix where it is an "either-or" shit hits the fan
So let me get this straight. If we respected everyone's beliefs, we'd still go to war over those beliefs. Yet, if we removed the beliefs entirely, there would be absolutely no war? Sounds good.
people seem to forget that a lack of religious belief doesn't automatically make you a good person. pol pot's khmer rouge were atheistic, as was stalins USSR. both regimes were responsible for millions of deaths. there's no such thing as bad christians or bad atheists, just bad people who happen to be christians or atheists.
So the thread title is about Cee Lo Green and a John Lennon song, yet you guys figure out a way to talk about Hitler and WW2? Imagine a forum where nobody gave a shit what other internet strangers' opinions are and stop trying to make yourself feel superior.
Jesus christ I never hated militant internet atheists so bad in my life before. The alteration didn't fucking change the message, he meant well and the end result in both cases would be peace. If John Lennon was alive today to hear this, he wouldn't give a shit and rather support it because both versions endorse peace. In fact, he probably would've spat on these militant atheists. [editline]2nd January 2012[/editline] Seriously, fuck those people.
it's not athiests that are pissed. for the most part the athiests don't care. it's the lennon fans that are up in arms about it

Humans don't work like that.
But it shits on the songs message. No religion = no retarded conflicts over them etc.
Humanity's first recorded war was over salt.

THAT'S what he should have replaced "no religion, too" with. "a forum where nobody gave a shit what other internet strangers' opinions are and stop trying to make yourself feel superior". Rolls off the tongue.
