• Police video shows how drug raid turned deadly

I thought this was over... However, the handful of people that have come in and posted completely ignorant thoughts have disproved that.
There was no mistake made at all. The man charged around the corner with intent of beating the police with the weapon. As most have already said, you have a split second to make a choice. Put yourself in the SWAT members shoes. You're bursting through the house, suddenly some guy charges around the corner. You're pumping full of adrenaline and you can barely make out what looks like metal in the dark. Yes, you're trained to make these choices but in the time you have that you're trying to make out if it's a golf club or a gun you could be shot down and killed. I would have made the shot as I'm sure anyone would. For those saying 'They could have disabled him by shooting him in the foot', I'm not a SWAT member, I know nothing much about them. But I'll bet money they are trained to shoot into the torso. When someone possibly has a gun, you're not going to risk the chance of missing the shot and not incapacitating the target. Also, with the taser, I've read it multiple times already and they are right. The electric shocks will make the muscles contract, pulling the trigger, and in such a tight space where the man is already aiming towards you, the last thing you want is some stray bullet flying towards you or someone else. It's a shame he was shot, but unless your hearing is impaired, you can't mistake a handful of people outside screaming 'police'. Even if they did talk over each other, the word itself is pretty distinct. And to make matters worse, the man was a known meth addict and possibly a dealer, making him even more dangerous with the chance he could of been out of his head on drugs when they burst in and the high chance of him having a deadly weapon.

Well there's quite a few posts here that make sense, but there is a whole load of them who don't.
nice someone is woken up in the middle of the night, doesnt know what is going on and grabs a golf club to defend his property and is shot because of that.
:siren: "POLICE SEARCH WARRANT SEARCH WARRANT POLICE POLICE" :siren: kind of gives them away who the fuck would hear that and be like "oh if I just walk out holding a golf club like I'm ready to smash someone's head in they'll be cool with it"
Finally a post that makes sense. Well there's quite a few posts here that make sense, but there is a whole load of them who don't.
There have been 10 pages of us saying the exact same thing.

Damn those policemen for doing their jobs.
Damn those policemen for doing their jobs.
yeah, like a golf club to the face could actually do any damage, he was probably just going to give it to the officers as a gift or something, he was a meth dealer after all
yeah, like a golf club to the face could actually do any damage, he was probably just going to give it to the officers as a gift or something, he was a meth dealer after all
Exactly! A metal club OBVIOUSLY can't do any damage, since SWAT armor provides +5 to Damage Resistance, and Golf Clubs can only do 4 base damage!
Shit sucks. It was just an unlucky mistake. The cops did nothing wrong, the guy did nothing wrong. Somebody still died. Oh well.

If the guy had just run away or not grabbed a weapon, he wouldn't be dead.

I'm not criticizing any party for the actions they took in that moment.
Regardless of whether the shooting was necessary or not, it was pretty fucking stupid to go after a team of cops with a golf club
It really sucks when things like this happen, although at least I'm happy that people aren't going all ''fuck the police'' over this.
i too would whip out a golf club and invite men with kevlar into my home
i too would whip out a golf club and invite men with kevlar into my home
It is unlikely that it was Kevlar. SWAT teams tend to use Spectra, Dyneema, or Twaron due to their superior resistance to environmental factors over time as well as increased resistance against melee weapons. Kevlar vests cannot be directly exposed to water or sunlight. They have waterproof coatings and a fabric cover to prevent water or light from harming them, but they can wear out over time. Kevlar is also easily defeated by bladed weapons. Zylon was another popular material type, but it turned out to degrade over time pretty rapidly and is no longer in use.
