Undoubtedly this is an amazing game but numbers mean little and, more importantly, I have no respect for the vast majority of these sites. I'll wait for people I do respect like TB and SBH to talk about it.
Having said that I'm absolutely buying this game holy shit hype!
It's made by Kojima, it's going to be great. I'm not worried about that.
GTA5 on consoles had purely 10s as well, and that didn't hold my interest for too long.
Imo it was overrated
Imo it was overrated
Imo it was well deserved. Not only is it amazing that they managed to stuff it in last gen, the game itself was really fun for me. Sure, it had some problems but overall they were nothing major and as far as games go, V deserves the spot in hall of fame(or ratings).
I don't doubt MGSV being way better than 4, but 4 also got these kinda scores and wasn't even that good
But are you looking at this from an unbiased viewpoint? MGS4 was my first MGS game and I loved every minute of it, whereas now that I've gone through MGS 1, 2, and a bit of 3, it feels lesser, but only after playing those. On its own, it's a pretty good game, with my biggest complaint being the year long cutscenes near the end, but long segments of cutscenes are a MGS tradition by this point so that doesn't even matter much.
A [del]weapon[/del]game to surpass [del]Metal Gear[/del] Half-Life's game score?
I read the thread title as "I can't hold that many tears" and was expecting to read that Konami execs somehow completely fucked up the game.

there's no such thing as an unbiased viewpoint
don't exist
Personally I think MGS4 is the best in the series, and I doubt TPP will change that tbh.

It was fun, and it's a good game, but it really wasn't anything ground breaking, and doesn't come near certain other games with that score, we'll see how it does compared to mgsv
the last gen versions worked like shit, the singleplayer has nothing in it in favor of online, which is a fun-restrictive grindfest, the story was shallow with a failed-experiment narrative, the characters felt rushed or almost entirely cut (franklin), the world - while exquisitely crafted - is fairly repetitive and boring for a video game, basically why the game had such success is because of its GTA "brand" accompanied by being generally decent. If not for the name or the company behind it, it probably wouldn't have achieved those scores

That's the thing with game ratings, they're very subjective and opinion based. I personally disagree with most of your points, which in my biased opinion makes the game worthy of 10. Same thing will probably happen with MGSV, it caters to certain tastes very well.

I know its a very subjective thing but...
Really? MGS4?
Sure it has stellar gameplay, but not much else is delivered perfectly enough to warrant it the best.
At least you didn't say PW...
Fuck it, I'm just going to wait for Angry Joe to give me an actual fucking number.
Didn't Angry Joe complain about how Ground Zeroes expects you to know the story and characters from previous games? Not trusting him.

Peace Walker is leagues better than MGS4.
Peace Walker is leagues better than MGS4.
It's literaly kawaii bullshit vs awkward teen hour bosses imo
MGS3 as best
Peace Walker is leagues better than MGS4.
Peace Walker's bosses were the biggest crock of shit ever.
In my opinion, The End is still the boss fight ever, the fact he can die of old age if you're completely incompetent is funny as hell too.
the fact that major news outlets and reviewers for games let themselves succumb to hype is one of the things still totally fucked in this industry
Peace Walker's bosses were the biggest crock of shit ever.
Most definitely, but the BnB's weren't much better.

When did that happen? It's either paid or genuinely good.

You haven't read a single article from the gaming media that hasn't been overhyped?
You haven't read a single article from the gaming media that hasn't been overhyped?
The article? Sure. But the actual rating?
Most definitely, but the BnB's weren't much better.
I at least enjoyed fighting them a bit more than Peace Walker's bosses, since those could be done by standing in a corner and shooting rockets at them for about 20 minutes straight.
So they took his name off the box art but forgot to check the actual game?
Is this a bad thing?
You know I like Metal Gear and all, but...

What the hell is going on.
he strapped a balloon to a sheep. the balloon lifts up in the air and a plane or helicopter or something comes and snags it, taking the person/animal/object strapped to it back to the player's base. it's called fulton recovery
it's a thing that exists in reality but obviously nowhere near that fast and the balloon doesn't actually lift the person in the air
I actually knew that, it's just odd out of all the official screenshots, that this was the second one. :v:
Peace Walker's bosses were the biggest crock of shit ever.
I enjoyed cool mechs more than the abysmally bland BB Corps. Especially Raging Raven, who is undoubtedly the worst boss battle in the series.

If you have good equipment it doesn't take that long, and literally none of them allow you to stay still without taking a hit.
oh, fair enough. at least it's not the one with the horse shit
Pupa barely requires you to move from one corner though. I have to agree that 4's bosses were not that great, but I seriously didn't enjoy even a single boss from PW.
Most definitely, but the BnB's weren't much better.
I dunno i didn't have to go back several missions to grind personnel in MGS 4 when I wanted to beat a bullshit sponge of a boss. I just gave in to the urge and shot the fucker rather than KO'ing them.
PW had some really fun shit in it, but the bosses were pretty trash, the grinding was a fucking nightmare (to this day I still haven't maxed out 80% of the research), and it was pretty easy really outside of the bosses. A downside of it being a handheld game I guess.

Actually fuck Raven super hard. That was up there was one of the worst parts of MGS4 (the triangle masher for MGS4 wins out because my hands fucking hurt every time after that).
I'm super excited for Kotaku and Polygon's reviews. I want to see how many points they take of for Quiet's attire.
I reckon Polygon will dock 3 points for it, Kotaku will dock 2.
bonus points if Patricia Hernandez does it.

You can apparently build a Animal Conservation platform where all your fultoned animals go and you can visit them.

You're also rewarded for capturing animals alive, so it's worth going out of your way for it if time constraints aren't an issue.
