I can kinda understand portrayal of women, because if they're not in some skin tight body suit they're showing some sort of cleavage with the only exception to this I can think of being Sniper Wolf? But when it comes to gender equality, I think women in the metal gear games have actually had strong roles in the games they're in. Edit: Actually, Sniper Wolf shows cleavage too :v:
Meryl, Olga and naomi?
I'm just remembering from memory, I haven't played a Metal Gear game since 3 just because I never got a PS3 to get Metal Gear Solid 4. But yeah, you got a point they're pretty normal compared to some others.

There's several sexualized females throughout the series and Quiet's the most explicit, yes. But simultaneously, Sniper Wolf and Quiet are both top-tier snipers that can do what no one in real-life could probably ever do, The Boss was only briefly sexualized and she's still one of the biggest accidental causes of conflict in the series while being an extreme badass, and to top it all off, the males throughout the series - the Snakes especially - are often pretty damn sexual in their own way. The skintight bodysuits, Raiden's nudity or his fights in MGS4 with Vamp (complete with Vamp licking Raiden's white artificial blood off of his knives), the ho yay between Big Boss and Ocelot [sp]and Ocelot's potential kiss on Old Snake's cheek in the final fight of MGS4,[/sp] and numerous other factors. Calling gender inequality when the series is as willing to stare at Snake's ass as Meryl's is pretty much a farce, but i'm still on the fence about Quiet. Even with cleavage in previous games and [sp]Paz in her goddamn underwear in the final boss fight of Peace Walker[/sp], something just doesn't quite seem right about a bikini-and-pantyhose clad mute superhuman sniper in the sunny and sandstormy Afghanistan.
i think that there more sexualized males in mgs than females

Not sure if it's true; saw someone mention the reason (in spoilers) in the MGS thread (didn't look at the spoilers themselves, but thats what they were about). Also The Boss was the god damn hero of WWII, a woman won WWII nearly singlehandedly in the MGS universe - I'd say they have strong portrayals of women down.
Guys, what are you talking about, who does research when reviewing video games, that's stupid.
There's always the Steam refund, so... :D
There's always the Steam refund, so... :D
Refund? A METAL GEAR game? Nonsense.
I don't doubt MGSV being way better than 4, but 4 also got these kinda scores and wasn't even that good
When I finished MGS4 I was convinced it was one of the best campaigns in video game history. I have a hard time trying to replay it, but like watching a movie for the first time, it was magical and an emotional experience. It's a 10/10 for me. 'Wasn't that good'...LOL
Because men in MGS have always been portrayed just as they are in reality/power fantasy style.
Otacon is the ultimate male power fantasy
I know its a very subjective thing but... Really? MGS4? Sure it has stellar gameplay, but not much else is delivered perfectly enough to warrant it the best. At least you didn't say PW...
That's exactly why it's my favorite. The gameplay. Gameplay is the most important aspect of any video game, for me.
Peace Walker is leagues better than MGS4.
no
Most definitely, but the BnB's weren't much better.
They totally were (from a gameplay perspective) except raging raven, like everything else in chapter 3 she sucks
I enjoyed cool mechs more than the abysmally bland BB Corps. Especially Raging Raven, who is undoubtedly the worst boss battle in the series.
but even with how shit she was, not even close to being the worst boss battle remember Fortune? also just about every boss battle in PW, for that matter
I hope Quiet has an outfit which gives her some kind of armour. I'm no feminist or whatever, I just feel it's out of place next to all the other heavily geared people. Even if it's just proper pants, she can go shirtless if she wants to, those torn panties just look out-of-place. Will be interesting to see the IC reasoning they keep mentioning. Quiet aside, I hated the boss battles in MGS4, though Crying Wolf was pretty awesome in comparison, didn't mind the battles too much in PW (I think that came with the expectation of it being a mobile port). MGS3 is still my fav of the series in all departments. MGS4 was also great in gameplay-terms, I absolutely loved the Middle Eastern and South American levels. After that though it just became too many cutscenes•– I mean I do play MGS for the story more-so than the gameplay, but in MGS4 it did get a bit much (and I just don't like the nanomachine aspect, FOXDIE was just a convenient plot device for everything). Snake is still one of my favourite video game characters. Big Boss' story doesn't have nanomachines, which is probably why MGS3 is my favourite. So hyped for PP, maybe it'll finally replace MGS3 as my favourite game of all time :v:

quiet is sanic fast, has optical camouflage and shoots from a distance, she doesn't really need clothes I'd still give her shorts at least
Maybe i's like Ghost in the Shell, where the optical camo is built into the skin and armor would be counterproductive.

MGS4's gameplay is up and down. It gives you a bunch of tools for sandbox gameplay but confines you to largely linear environments, and its great gun customisation doesn't really extend into the non-lethal department. Act 3 is a travesty to play, [sp]a slow tailing mission, on-rails shooting and the all-time worst boss battle.[/sp] Then you never encounter humanoid enemies for what little gameplay is in the remaining two acts, except the FROGS. I wish the whole game played like the first two acts and the last two boss battles but other than that, it's a mess.
All other metal gear titles (except peace walker) when you play them over again, usually your just playing through the story campaign again, and you just keep going through that same sequence. MGSV give us a game we can start up anytime and do something new each time we play. That may well be the best feature this game has to offer, cause it does get to a point where you have to be really creative to come up with some new way of playing MGS 1-4.
MGSV looks awesome but I don't have any system to play it on and I think it would be a bit stupid having never played any other metal gear before
