i don't know why i laughed at that video(had nothing to do with thread), but anyways as long as he does good he is fine by me and doesn't turn into a verizon.
For those not in Indiana, if the state Senate passes the current bill, it won't actually reach referendum until 2016. Leaving the door open to civil unions is a change the House made this year, and under Indiana law, two consecutive sessions of the legislature have to pass the EXACT SAME constitutional amendment before it can reach the voters. For it to still happen this year, the Senate has to revise the bill back to the original form, which may or may not happen.
As fast as the marriage equality movement is going, pushing it back to 2016 or later is probably a death sentence for the ban.
EDIT: Fuck, I just got baited. I thought they somehow managed to vote on it again...
thanks for your long and descriptive reasoning as to why you think that, it truly has changed my view. Religion may not be the SOLE reason but fuck me if it isn't a huge part of it.
Reasons to ban gay marriage:
1) "Bible says it's wrong."
2) "A man's penis in another man's poop-chute is icky. :<"

Not to mention the Supreme Court will shoot it down.
Don't worry we'll just be the 50th state to legalize it in about a century or so, while other states will be enjoying non-discrimination, electric cars, and Google Fiber, we'll still be here bashing rocks on our heads like neanderthals.
Banning gay marriage is a slippery slope! First you ban gay marriage, then what's next? You'll have people banning straight marriage! And then when that's out of the way, they're gonna ban you from marrying Jesus! Then where are the American traditional values?!
Am I not surprised that America takes 1 step forward and 2 steps back? I just can't believe an issue like this still exists today; but then again, I can't help but believe religion is the reason.
America isn't one entity. It is the United States, as in several. Indiana is one of many, and most of our contemporaries have done much better at removing their gay marriage bans.
But Indiana is backwards and retarded. There is reason why we are called the "Northern Southern State", and even that is an insult to a lot of southern states. Indiana is to conservative, to rural, and to zealous to really progress, and while the rest of America is moving forward, we are on of the few states somehow going backwards.

I live in the Northwestern corner by Chicago.
Please Illinois, just incorporate us into your state already. Anywhere is better than here.
Can't say I'm surprised. Indiana is one of, if not the last, Christian states(you cant even buy alcohol on Sundays there). However if you read the article they only want to ban gay marriage but it looks like they're open to civil unions and the protection/benefits it brings. Basically looks like they're ok with gay marriage, just don't call it marriage.
Reminds me of the cake/civil muffin joke.

This. I just moved here from Georgia so I know first hand. In Indiana, only liquor stores can sell cold beers, everyone else has to sell it warm. There's also a state ban on selling alcohol on Sunday. It's pointless.
If the past trend is any indication its gonna get struck down by the feds
This doesn't mean much. This, along with the other ten instances of constitutional bans, are more or less going to land infront of the Supreme Court within a year's time or less or be washed away with the tide of pro-marriage decisions by the federal appeals courts. They can add as many laws as they want, the federal government has made its decision and is just waiting for the right opportunity to lay down the law.
the gay marriage issue is won, it's just a matter of time now.

I really liked how the state ruled that I now have to pay sales tax online to companies that don't have a physical presence in my state, apparently this helps mom and pop stores who don't sell the shit I buy online anyway. If this state is worried about bringing in money they should allow alcohol sales on Sunday, so much lost revenue.

That's one more thing to add to the list. I had no idea about the whole "Northern Southern State" thing either, maybe I should have taken my chances in Georgia. :v:
It really isn't as bad a state as people think. I kind of miss it.. Just because it was home for so long.
You're right.
Islam and Judaism too.
You know who else didn't recognize gay marriages*? (If you guessed all of humanity before 1950 you would be right)
While religion may be the most vocal opponents to gay marriage now, it would be just plain ignorance to claim that religion started it.
*Note: Gay relationships are not the same thing as marriages, such as in Rome and Greece where people had gay sex all over the place, but gay marriage wasn't recognized in any way.
