What? Sounds like the only one who needs to get over yourself is you.

Man all your posts in this thread just aren't very good. What's with the attitude? So dramatic.
hi furioso can you please shut up you're trashing something you know fuck all about
I don't come to your place of work and take a dump on your fedora so please don't poo poo my guns
lets be honest here, the sten wasn't dangerous-- it was going to jam anyways
I will say I'd be more upset if it was a Sterling. Those are badass.
Those can't be his

On the contrary, the STEN might be the most dangerous because it may decide to discharge whether you like it or not!

My beef is with automatics and excessive ownership of firearms

If you're getting shot at with a gun in a context where you wouldn't expect it I'd say you're just about equally fucked whether or not the gun's full-auto capable. The NFA is more for the protection of law enforcement than civilians. Automatic fire capability doesn't make much difference in the context of armed person(s) shooting or threatening to shoot unarmed person(s). But when it comes to a firefight? It's an equaliser against superior numbers who are restricted to semi-auto weapons, which if I understand right, applies to US police and SWAT.

I don't want people to have tanks or explosives. I don't think anyone needs more than 1 or 2 guns for protection. Explain to me why that's wrong.

Guns are fun to shoot? If it weren't so expensive to do in this country and I weren't so skint, I'd be doing it all the time.

Arms dealers do exist, especially black market arms dealers. I don't see why that couldn't be the case now, especially with what happens just a few miles south of LA, south of our border. But you're right, when you put it that way. It's probably far fetched that that's how this guy got them, but it's a possibility, even if it's slim.

People who break the law to access firearms will go for the most firepower that they can afford, and can conceal. If they're already breaking the law, why would they settle for anything less?

Some people view guns, especially old ones, even if mass produced, as art.
Some people aren't keen on the idea of "art" being destroyed because 'the spooky bullet shoot bang bangs' :(
At the very least, they could be deactivated and sold as props for a museum, or if legal/transferable, resold to firearms stores. But who am I kidding, it's LA. Tightest gun laws in the states means it's more likely all this stuff will be scrapped.
People with your mindset is why historical items like that get rare in the first place.
I can assure you that the police department will do one of two things:
Wont care and destroy them.
Or wont care and sell to the highest bidder at public auction
Maybe they don't need to be melted down, but they should at least have the barrels cemented.
That's still destroying it. I have a better idea.
Put a semi-auto trigger group in it, put a serial number on it, toss it at a gun store. Bam. Done. one less piece of history being senselessly destroyed because idiots can't see anything past 'hurrdurr destroy'.
but the cries for "it belongs in a museum!" are senseless, ill-founded, and dumb.
I'd honestly rather have it in my gun safe next to my Nugget and Ruger 10-22 than a museum where itt'l just rust and never fire another shot.
. I'd rather they were rare than so commonplace that they wind up in the black market as unregistered firearms.
When was the last time a STEN was used by a gangbanger in a driveby again? Correct me if I'm wrong but don't gangbangers tend to prefer Mac 10s, Micro UZIs and full auto Glocks for their SMG shenanigans? Stens are pretty bulky all things considered and most gangbangers will reach for an AK47 instead of a Sten if they're going to go that route.

You don't hear about the guns actually used, and those guns listed (save the glock) off are a current stereotype set by firearms used in the 80's/early 90's. Making a full auto STEN is a lot easier than making a MAC10, Uzi, or Glock. MACs and Uzis havent been made as semi-auto open bolts in decades, and while it can be done with a closed bolt its very unsafe for the user based on how it would be likely done. A STEN however can be assembled from a parts kit and made full auto safley with simply a metal tube and some skillfull welding and grinding. It's also significantly less expensive to do so since an open bolt semi-auto MAC/Uzi sells for a shit ton these days while a STEN kit can be purchased for as little as $200 with everything but the receiver (which once again, is simply a tube).
I think the people in this thread are being kind of rude to someone because they've got another opinion.
I think they should make it semi auto and maybe sell it to an antique store. If they feel like cementing it and selling it to a museum or melting it and selling it for that, that's their business. It's not like melting confiscated guns is going to prevent you from buying guns in the first place. It's also not like this is some rare gun.
Whatever is the safest option, police should go with that.
What the fuck is with that giant ass can thing on the front of the gun???
Forgive me, my knowledge of guns is pretty much abysmal but that thing looks strange as hell and has me wondering.
What rock do you live under?
are we going to cry whenever a mosin nagant gets melted down/broken/thrown in a river/set on fire as well?
Yes actually. :disgust:
