Ahh it's to be expected. Valve is a slow company, and we have to come to terms with that. But when they do release games, they are guaranteed to be brilliant.
Half-Life is dead, People. It's a aging dinosaur of a franchise that's been surpassed by now. Have you read some of the interviews with Valve lately? They have not even touched it since EP2. You can tell they're sick and tired of working on Half-Life and want to move on to greater things. Even the modding community is dying, With disgusting hacks like Fakefactory being the only ones releasing anything lately.
Come on people. Stop clinging to Half-Life's dead body. No one cares about Gordon Freeman or Alyx Vance anymore. We don't want to see them again. Move on and get with the times already.
You can't troll for shit.
And when it's released, it will be so mindblowingly awesome that we will all die.
So it'll be released in 2012?
I don't mind the wait, really. Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress 2 were fucking forever in development and look how AWESOME they turned out. I don't mind waiting for quality one bit, especially if they plan on making this the finale to the series.
Which is actually what I want them to do. Let Half-Life finally go out in one spectacular bang instead of dragging it out into a spinoff-filled franchise. Some great things can stay great forever if they have an ending earlier on, and I hope that's how Half-Life ends.
We've waited 3 years FFS
No you haven't. Orange box came out in October of 07, not january.

It's felt that long atleast.
Source = HL2 engine
Source 2 = TF2/Portal/L4D(2) engines
Source 3 = next.
Source is a homogeneous engine. It's still just Source. Source 2 will probably be a complete redesign.
At this rate, Duke Nukem Forever will be done before Ep3
They haven't shown us ANYTHING AT ALL yet. I'm doubting Valve for once.
god dammit fp stop making fat jokes about gabe
No Half life this year? ok thats good What about any in the half life 2 series I'M DESPERATE!
They haven't even touched DirectX 10. What makes you think they'll do DirectX 11?
Because of the nature of DirectX 11. If you build a game with DirectX 11 features, it also includes the same sort of improvements for DX 10. So they can work on DX 11 and kill two birds with one stone.
They'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they just went with DX 10 support when they can have both DX 10 and DX 11 by working with 11.
Valve sure knows how to build hype.
[editline]12:48AM[/editline]
Hell, they are so good they dont even have to do anything at all.
How troublesome.
Half-Life 3: Forever
I'm not waiting another six years.
it has been 2 already 4 more years
What part of "Episode" doesn't valve understand?
An episode is basically a game split into smaller chunks , so that each peice can be developed seperately and released QUICKER than a standard full game.
You don't know Valve well enough, then. They work on their piece until it is a masterful piece of art that nobody can deny has quality. Except for boycotters, fanboys and movie reviewers.
Knowing Valve, when they keep it on the down low, shit gets real when they release details, and it all becomes worth the wait.
If it isn't released this year no doubt knowing valve it's going to be really good.
Full Life : Episode 3
The Awakening.
I'd be content with seeing the new engine... no gameplay would be alright. I just want to see if the new or updated engine can actually deliver in this day and time.
as long as we get some news this year that it's in (and been) in production i'm satisfied.
Big surprise. They haven't even announced it yet...
I don't really care if they release it this year, I just hope they will announce something big at E3.

I don't see it happening considering only certain ATI cards support DX11 and no Nvidia cards support it as of now.
What ever happened to shorter games, quicker releases?
I don't see it happening considering only certain ATI cards support DX11 and no Nvidia cards support it as of now.
Why? If the hypothetical new version of Source is just as versatile as the current one is, it will still include support for older DX titles.
According to their own survey, almost 50% of all Steam users have a DX10 capable card. By the time Ep3/HL3 comes out this number will be higher. If they develop with DX11, they can cater to 50%+ of their userbase with DX10 + the early adopters of DX11 cards. Not to mention it will still likely have support for DX 9.
Like I said, they'd be stupid not to have something in the works for newer DX versions.

*older DX levels, not titles.

Also, the nvidia GF100 is just around the corner: http://www.nvidia.com/object/gf100.html
What ever happened to shorter games, quicker releases?
I don't want to pay $50+ for a game I can finish in a single sitting. Yet then again I don't want a game I will never finish. :|
I remember Gabe or some dev person saying Episode 3 was probably going to be longer than HL2 + HL2:EP1 + HL2:EP2- I think.
