Also consider the meteorite could have been floating around in space after being ejected from a thriving alien planet while our planet was still a lifeless rock. Something to think about.
Also different can a specie get when compared to us and the whole animalia known? or is it just random, as in limitless possibilities?
I like to think of evolution as a ball on a pool table, when the ball is struck is responds with change. Take friction and energy out of the equation and allow all the balls to continue moving and interacting with eachother, the greater the force the greater the change, without that interaction there is no change.

Damn! I wanted to be the first to post that.

Well, you could simply...
...dismiss it.
"Ah yes..."
Suddenly, nothing happens.
This confirms my suspicion that god shoots comets out of his dick
To be fair. Although this is (maybe) the most important discovery in the history of mankind. I don't feel any different. To be honest, I always knew there was something out there, and I just feel indifferent, just the same.
Well I think the reason is because we are all skeptical. Today feels like any other day because I think in a week we wont hear of this again.
I hope to see a follow-up article regarding the peer-reviewing, and another article (could be same one, but I doubt it) in regards to an independent lab's attempts to confirm/refute this thesis soon.
I hate when we hear things like this, "But we need to wait until it gets peer reviewed before we can say anything for certain!" and then they simply fall off the face of the Earth.

This is rather worrying. :frown:
This is rather worrying. :frown:
So if it is related with species on Earth, that means a long time ago that space rock and whatever brought life on Earth were roughly in the same place.
Know what it means if that debris containing Earth bound species was in our area? In means we're stuck in space somewhere. Something is keeping all this burnt space rock together.
Holy mother of ass! :science:
Is that bacteria life very different from Earth's or very similar/the same?
According the article (WHICH SHOULD BE TAKEN WITH A PINCH OF SALT) then there are some that are eerily similar and there are others that are completely new.
I don't buy this shit, I'm sorry but I just don't, I'm waiting til it peer reviewed before I allow the denizen of my underwear to stir in geeky arousal.
this sound like something i read five years ago in a texbook that was about 10 years old
Badly misleading title
Fossils =/= life/alien

...if the rock with the fossils in it didn't originiate from earth, it kinda indicates that there was or is life wherever the rock came from.

We don't know whether the bacteria fossils are native or alien.
That's why the guy went to remote, extreme environments to collect his samples, to reduce the likelihood of contamination it's the same as storing it in a massive freezer.
I'm still waiting for a peer reviewed study of the rock though, this is way too easy to bullshit.
NASA is pretty sure that extraterrestrial fossils have already come to Earth on two other meteorites, it's just a difficult idea for many people to grasp.
It doesn't necessarily mean that Eath life originated elsewhere, just that perhaps abiogenesis occurred on Mars as well in parallel with Earth.
It would make sense if it occured on Mars as well, both formed from the same gas cloud, roughly the same composition if I remember, the only issue is the size of mars means a weak ability to hold onto an atmosphere and I think the core cooled down much faster than ours is.
Basic life probably occured and just died out because of the environmental changes.
The guy invited 100 or so other scientists to review his work, and apprently those reviews will be posted online in a few days.
I'm sceptical until I see those reviews. The guy who discovered these supposed fossils seems like a very respectable scientist and is inviting peer review and open critique on his work, bit it seems NASA is rightfully keeping it low key to prevent a repeat of the events in 1996 with the mars 'fossils'.
If this actually turns out to be true then this will be fucking huge.
:woop:
No man, take some DNA from Earth and you can make any Earth-bound creature with it.

With science apparatus of course.

Remember the two headed snake illustrating the caution to the people? It's not really a snake, but more like DNA!!!! Cos DNA looks like 2 snakes.
Woah. I'm going to order three science apparatus and try this out.

What?

Just leave it alone, maybe it'll go away.
Fuck yeah, religion disproved.
If this is true, that is.

"Bible didn't specify whether earth was alone or not"
You can't prove or disprove shit in this area, now just deal with the fact religion is still kicking after a few hundred thousand years and that will never change and that really you shouldn't care, and life becomes so much easier.

I know, I know. But still, imagine all the athiest teenages who got kicked out of their homes because their parents didnt like the fact that their son was athiest. Now, if this turns out to be true, facts will be in the athiest son's favour, so he can return home and mock his parents, and they can appologise to him for kicking him out.
Or somthing like that.
Fucking hell, alien life possibly exists and everyone's going on about the bible. I can't wait till the sentient ones turn up and we try and convert them to Christianity.

'Zerg think book not bad, bit dry in places, but the storyline is not really believable.'
