Here's something you can't get with an iPad: 250GB of internal storage. Archos' upcoming Android "Honeycomb" 3.2 tablet will pack a 250GB hard disk drive that's been tweaked to perform more like a flash drive.
The Archos G9 will sport a 250GB Seagate Momentus Thin 2.5-inch hard drive--a mere 7 millimeters thick. Though not as compact as a 1.8-inch HDD (like Apple once used in its MacBook Air and iPod), it's not as expensive either.
And Archos has tweaked the Seagate drive a bit to allow it to perform more like the flash drives found in practically all tablets today. 4GB of flash storage sits on top of the HDD, according to Craig TerBlanche, director of marketing for Archos in North America. Often-used data is stored in the flash component, allowing faster access than a standard 2.5-inch HDD, TerBlanche said.

All of this results in bigger bang for the buck. "You get 250GB for the same cost as a 32GB flash drive," he said.
Another marquee feature is the 1.5GHz Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 dual-core processor. This is the same processor that Google has approved for upcoming Android Ice Cream Sandwich devices. That means consumers can expect to see a new wave of tablets and smartphones built around the TI 4460. But Archos will likely be one of the first, as those devices aren't expected until late in the year.
The 8-inch 250GB Archos G9 will be $369.99 and the 10-inch 250GB model, $469.99. Both are due in September

Clever sons of bitches.

Slightly less clever.
Read the title and instantly thought
"I must buy this"
I've been waiting for a tablet like this with so much space AND running android. The price isn't so bad either.
but 2 pounds heavier.
Is it really worth $100 just for an extra 2 inches
Now thats a damn good price, the extra 100$ for 2 inches though... something apple would do.
just wait, Apple releases a tablet with 250GB, sues, claiming they did it first!!!
I just shove my 500gb external HD in my pocket and take it out when I need to use it with my Asus Transformer... nice idea though.
250GB is nice. What happened to cloud computing though? This is kind of drawing attention away from it.
Awesome, it's a good step to see the first non-tegra Honeycomb device.
TI make some great CPUs for mobile devices, better than Qualcomm.

Still not accessible to all until everyone has good internet connections. A local area cloud for Android devices would be awesome though.

I think a lot of people would pay much more than $100 for 2 extra inches...
I love Archos for shit like this.
Android is the best mobile OS there ever was.

Otherwise known as a cache
I find it hard to believe anyone needs 250 gigs of anything on a single tablet.
I find it hard to believe anyone needs 250 gigs of anything on a single tablet.
Up untill Apple does it and everyone magicaly(tm) requires it.
I find it hard to believe anyone needs 250 gigs of anything on a single tablet.
Obviously because of the limitations...
I'd use it as a HTT. Home Theatre Tablet, fill it up with movies, play through TV/watch on the tablet.

Whats the point if barely anyone has unlimited data plans anymore?
I'd use it as a HTT. Home Theatre Tablet, fill it up with movies, play through TV/watch on the tablet.
You can stream to the tablet with a number of apps.

I call it 2nd.
If it has a good resolution and powerful processor this thing would be perfect for long journeys.
I love my iPad for all my apps and shit from the appstore, but damn, 250GB? I think I might have to invest in this if it turns out good.

You forgot battery life.

Or you could just get an ASUS transformer for $399 with a 10.1" IPS screen, and use apps to stream your entire video library on your computer directly to your tablet. Which also happens to support HDMI out.
And if you want to, download the video onto the 16gb memory to watch on the go.

That ain't much storage, and streaming isn't always the solution.
I DONT CARE! IT HAS A 250GB HHD! Enough space to put all of my crap in!
I checked, apparently the 10 inch 250GB tablet is still cost less than an iPad. 250GB for around 400-470 dollars, or an iPad for near 600?
If I ever find a job and get enough money, I will get 250GB in a tablet.
I'm wondering what filesystem it's gonna rock on the 250GB hdd, since FAT32 has a filesize limit of around 4 GigaByte.
Especially because HD rips of Blu-Ray movies DO take up more space than DVD rips.
People are forgetting it takes as much money to make a 1gb HDD as a 2 TB HDD. It's not an advance in technology, all they do to decide what amount of memory it has is how they print the silicon onto the boards.
