I'm sorry but I have no sympathy for people who willingly cheat on their partners or the people who've been exposed by this all this. Now I will admit I'm completely biased about this due to past life experiences, but I'm going to be blunt and say that all the people who used this website to cheat completely deserve the shitstorm that's coming. I don't care how bad it is for them, they fucked themselves the second they signed up.
What would your opinion be if some random porn site you signed up for ended up being hacked and you were among the millions of users being shame-doxxed?
Because, moral hand-wringing aside, this is almost exactly the same thing.

If I'm completely honest, I wouldn't care. Maybe I say that now because I don't truly know how I would handle the situation if it actually happened, but I just don't feel it would be something as severe as entire populations of people having affairs.
so here's the readme that came with the dump, with their reasoning I guess.
Find someone you know in here? Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters.

Not even having affairs.
So, is being curious about possibly wanting to have an affair worth having your identity stolen? Multiplied by a few tens of millions of people?
If you don't care if you get doxxed, post your credit card info on Twitter, see how quickly you start caring.

if you didn't care
@needadebitcard wouldn't exist
there is enough in here to make fraudulent purchases
billing ZIPs, and card numbers

How is watching porn, a pretty widely accepted activity (even with people in relationships) even remotely close to having an affair? The only real embarassing thing about having a porn website membership exposed is that you're paying for porn (unless you have an unusual fetish). And I highly doubt many people simply went to Ashley Madison and "considered" having an affair. If it didn't work out there, I highly doubt many would simply give up on the idea.

What if that website was, say, FurAffinity? :v:

Well I mean if you're actively thinking about cheating on your partner, that's one thing. To sign up for a website that was built solely to make it easier for you to do so is worse; you're basically taking the next step forward in the process. Even if a person signed up just because they were curious, don't you think it's rather stupid of them to hand over their credit card info to a site for a service that they may not even use in the end? If they were "curious" they could have taken the safe approach and researched the website before applying for it.
But going back to what I said before, I'm biased about this. I'm probably being slightly irrational about what I'm saying so take it with a grain of salt, but make no mistake I'm betting a good chunk of the people on there didn't sign up because they were just curious lol.
What if that website was, say, FurAffinity? :v:
Isn't that a forum? And once again, cheating is a far more serious offense than simply liking (even furry) porn. Cheating ruins the lives of not only the partner effected (who will have serious difficulty trusting people in future relationships), but of their children as well.
FA has a forum attached to it, but it's basically DeviantArt for furry porn. And I mean every implication of that description.
Except they leaked shit about people that are in consenting open relationships. "Hacktavists" are not really helping anyone dude. Wanna help people? Do pen-testing for a living.
Well to be fair, even if a person on the site was in an open relationship, if they're on the site they're specifically looking for someone else who is also married.
How is watching porn, a pretty widely accepted activity (even with people in relationships) even remotely close to having an affair? You make some other pretty decent points, but why should the level of acceptance, which is mostly factored by people's arbitrary views, of a particular activity have any effect on whether one "deserves" bad things happening to them?
Well to be fair, even if a person on the site was in an open relationship, if they're on the site they're specifically looking for someone else who is also married.
Shit I hadn't even considered that, good point. Ashley Madison just reeks of bad intentions...

The suicide rate would skyrocket and global production of child porn would tank.

There was a leak a few years back that revealed that there's a LOT of shady things happening under the hood over there.
The site itself seems like it was more more about trapping dudes into extorting them to unregister and hide their indiscretions rather than actually setting up cheating hookups.
I don't think it's morally right to actively seek out cheating, but it seems like most people on the site have now been victimized twice for even just signing up to see what it's about let alone actively wanting to cheat: First they were extorted to get their info off the site, and now they've been doxxed and had their identities and credit card info exposed for anyone to defraud them.
At what point does it become okay to criminally victimize someone over moral indiscretions? Does this mean that it's okay to dox someone because they fap to, say, adult diaper porn? Or own dragon dildos?

These people are on the World Wide Web man. It is a mass collection of information (among other things) and it is always growing. If they wanted to see what it was all about, they could have easily searched up reviews or information websites about it. I refuse to believe a person would willingly sign up and hand over their credit card info to some shady meet-n-fuck website just to see what it's about.

but fapping to diaper porn or owning dragon dildos isn't morally wrong.
It's just fucking weird.

what
Basically, a punch of PMs between mods were leaked, revealing that one of whom named Dragoneer actually dabbled in CP. When called out, FA started banning a ton of accounts, and quite a few notable artists left the site.
If I'm completely honest, I wouldn't care. Maybe I say that now because I don't truly know how I would handle the situation if it actually happened, but I just don't feel it would be something as severe as entire populations of people having affairs.
You wouldn't care about identity theft?

Not really comparable, that's just something the majority of people do that literally has no effect on their relationship, it might be awkward, but bar certain circumstances (a religious partner might get upset i dunno) that's harmless.
Unfortunately because I'm a piece of shit I'm interested in what happens after this leak. It's bad to do to so but, can't help myself. Because really cheating is a problem between the people in the relationship, not the public.

So your opinion is that people deserved to be publicly humiliated and potentially harmed over private matters that you consider to be morally wrong?

He's an attention whore who doesn't like when people disagree with him. He's not an idiot and his videos do give a good perspective on things, but that doesn't make him any less of an asshat.

Someone tell pentium that ratings are disabled in SH now, there's no point in fishing for zings.
So your opinion is that people deserved to be publicly humiliated and potentially harmed over private matters that you consider to be morally wrong?
No I'm saying they're paying the price for fucking around and I have no sympathy for them.
No I'm saying they're paying the price for fucking around and I have no sympathy for them.
So being the victims of criminal fraud is morally justified if they had thoughts of cheating?
k.
No I'm saying they're paying the price for fucking around and I have no sympathy for them.
And I'd say they're the victims of fraud, and the people who would happily see their dirty laundry brought into the public eye for their pleasure are a far greater harm to society than some guy who wants to cheat on his spouse.
Then again, I live in a city where supposedly 1-in-5 men were members of the site.

What gave you that idea? I'm not jumping for joy over the whole thing, I just have no sympathy for them. That's it really.

Who said I was fishing for ratings? The place is equally a cesspool as Ashley Madison in a number of ways.
Who said I was fishing for ratings? The place is equally a cesspool as Ashley Madison in a number of ways.
By implying that FA or its members are somehow responsible for a large proportion of global child porn production.
I mean, FP really doesn't like furries and most of them are obnoxious social rejects and Dragoneer is actual human trash but jfc
What gave you that idea? I'm not jumping for joy over the whole thing, I just have no sympathy for them. That's it really.
Honestly, it feels like the two tend to go hand in hand, with the pleasure part sometimes being pretty subtle.
Honestly, it feels like the two tend to go hand in hand.
I can feel no sympathy for a person's misfortunes without gratuitously jacking off in pleasure to the thought of it you know...
