I hope they will add more variety. I never finished ME because it was just too boring.

It's pretty short... and awesome.
DON'T FUCK THIS UP

Also did the first ME have PC mod support? I never had it for PC- if they didn't that's something they should definitely do.

I think it was always viable to not use guns if you didn't want to (except for one sniper section, admittedly), but making you unable to use enemy weapons, even if only briefly, is just preposterous.
I'd rather have a gun mechanic that I can choose not to use than just hover over an enemy's gun while other dudes shoot at my back with no way to shoot at them.
Hell, you could even do that "can't hold anything bigger than a small pistol" if you want but you have to allow for something.

I think it would be best to get away from guns completely. Industry's been iterating first person gunplay so much and everything else so little it's become a bad habit to rely on it as a gameplay backbone since it's been fleshed out so well. It's mixed into everything, even if it's stealth or stuff like this where it goes against core concepts.
It looked like Mirror's Edge wanted to do something completely different, then got scared and put in gunplay anyway. I for one thought they got into the way of what I considered core gameplay and completely interrupted the pacing. It's like Bioshock 1 hacking mini games in the middle of a fun plasmid brawl. Or hunting people with flamethrowers in LA Noire.
They have a highly stylized futuristic universe, they can implement all sorts of stuff to make your acrobatics more challenging, and succeeding despite the odds more rewarding. Going back to guns just strikes me as a bad habit.

The game, through its design and difficulty, discouraged you from using guns. The dude that talks to you over the radio tells you to run away instead of taking down enemies, enemies kill you very quickly even on easier difficulties, you can't aim, you can't reload, you can't run that well while using them, and they're horribly inaccurate.
They only ruined the pacing if you ruined it for yourself. Granted, there are some bullshit areas in the game where it's easy to pick up a gun and mow people down, but you aren't required or encouraged to do so.

Relying on it? There were very few moments in ME where you had to use a firearm, and often times it was preferable not to. But, it was nice to have the option available, as a change of pace to just constantly punching people out. Even in LA Noire, you didn't have to use the flamethrower if you preferred regular guns anyway.
And how are you going to change it so that you wouldn't even run into weapons? Make every single enemy into pursuit cops? Write every story so that you're so pressed for time you can't even stop to pick up a pistol? No matter how you do it it's going to be ham-fisted and, at least from my perspective, leave me wondering why I don't even have the option of using a gun if I want to.
How does this not confirm that the game is coming out?

I have waited so long for this...

I really hope ME2 will be slightly more open-world than the first. The first was great, but very linear, and a game like this has huge potential for open-world.
