My friends mum who is a teacher in a 'special school' makes do with her wage, but if she drove trains she would make twice as much.
Things aren't looking very fun in the UK lately. Riots, a diamond jubilee celebration that went wrong, rampant debt and unemployment. And now you guys get the Olympics, and everything was already going bad several months before the games actually start.
What's this?
They strike at least 5 times a year. It's pathetic.
its not just about wanting a pay rise you idiot, it's about the massive job cuts from the sectors that union bosses watch over, and it's about the billions that have been wasted on the olympics, banks, and other useless shit when it could be spent on improving and securing government workplaces. to have tens of thousands of job cuts in 'austerity measures' while the government is announcing the extortionate measures of private security and wasted money in the olympics is a pisstake. strikes like this show that we're not prepared to be fucked over for all this worthless bureaucratic shit. its not just the train unions going on strike by the way everyone - an assload of london public sector workers are going on strike. this is just propaganda to get you to think 'i fucking hate unions!'
you idiot
They have no right to shut down transport in an entire city. They can inevitably ruin people's days and piss everyone off. You can tell me "that's what strikes are meant to do", but this is crossing the line.

And it's already proven that they don't give a shit about the strikes.
The PCS said 57.2% of those who voted backed strike action - the turnout was 20%.
Shouldn't there be a quorum for strike action? Especially a public sector union?
The PCS strike is over people being laid off and compulsory redundancies, if you read the story, not pensions.
My bad I was half asleep and the two separate stories in the article confused me. In that case it might be slightly more justified for them to go on strike. They aren't really doing themselves any favours with the choice of date though, if they do cause disruption during the Olympics then no one is going to side with them for a very long time.
The pay thing is big deal with these Olympics, but I really don't understand why. G4S seem to think the wages are the turn off that meant they couldn't hire enough. £8.75 an hour. I get £6.40 in a completely crap job, so what's the problem?
