Some Syrian rebels may be defecting to Assad's side
Damascus (CNN) -- Since the beginning of the uprising against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, a lot has been written about high level defections from the government side.
At first it was soldiers from the Syrian army, then officers and generals and even some high level politicians. But very little is known about those who joined the opposition but then returned to the government side.
When we were traveling in the suburbs of Damascus, a Syrian military commander introduced us to several men who said they had been with the Free Syrian Army in the Damascus countryside but had then fled to return to the government-controlled area in the capital.
It is impossible for CNN to independently verify their stories and claims, and government officials say they are skeptical, but their cases show that breaking the ranks in this bloody civil war is by no means a one-way street.
One of those we spoke to is 25-year-old Akram Samer Halabi. He said he joined the Free Syrian Army in 2012 for financial reasons.
It must suck to be a rebel when you realize that you're just cannon fodder fighting for a shitty salafist agenda.
That's what you get when you only take fiefs for yourself.
Well shit
Let Al Nasura and the Islamic Front be routed from the field and destroyed. They are responsible for so much damage to the image of the Arabic Spring, that the West has lost the will to support democratic movements in the Middle East.

How did they cause the West to lose support for democratic movements when those groups weren't very democratic to begin with?
You had groups such as the actual FSA which were originally working on getting a democratic country going, but with Al Nasura and the Islamic Front, whatever "support the rebels~" vibe which was going on in the west is long gone. As far as my knowledge goes from reading threads on ArmChairGenereals and Military.com, most of the Western Powers are so fucking afraid of supporting the FSA right now, that they'll only request upper-ranking officers to go abroad to places like Turkey and the United States for training. Even then its very much, "yeah, we are not giving you shit"
I know this isn't exactly the best place to link to, but if you want an idea of the current situation going on in Syria, I would check out this Syria Thread going on in 4chan's /K/. Has some pretty good images explaining the current situation in Syria.
Here are some of the images I have been saving for the past few days from that thread, and a few others...

This image was apparently taken from within an elementary school that some rebels have been using to launch attacks on Loyalist tanks:

This isn't anything very new and these de-defectors are piecemeal and by no means some game changer.
25 guys surrendering doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things.

I made that thread, I'm usually the guy making and cultivating those threads. Glad you like it. I enjoy educating people.
2nd image shouldn't be held super highly the numbers on it are too inflated and don't make sense. Okay just for a general overview though.
Also that last picture is actually from a British jihadist camp. Looks like the Brits took the time to try and educate themselves.
Fuck yeah, always enjoy seeing those threads outside of the NSFW boards.
Also glad to see other FP'ers in the Magical Place.
