Unfortunate as it may be to kill something so peculiar, It's just a normal octopus with a natal abnormality like the article says. There will be more don't worry. Would've still been good to send it to an institute to see if they could determine the cause, whether it was genetic, environmental, or some other cause.
"Labros Hydras" is a pretty awesome name. It rolls off the tongue like a taste of lemon flavored hexapussy.
Haha fuck. next cat i get i'll call it hexapussy
At the very least, we now know there are more of these. Observation is better than nothing. I hope it tasted good and didn't go to waste.
yeah, I was a little bit hotheaded in my last post. But I swear to God if another one of these is killed just because they want to eat it there's something incredibly fucked up going on here.
The question is, how many of these go unreported by commercial fishing crews that don't notice them? This Octopus has 9 tentacles! http://pinktentacle.com/2007/10/photo-nine-tentacled-octopus/
Biologists say the six-legged hexapus is the result of a natal abnormality as opposed to a new species.
Also this:
After finishing it off he decided to check out what the chef had said - and felt sick when he realised what he had done. Labros, 49, is now trying to find out more about the marine mutant. He is also helping sealife experts in Greece with what he can remember of the catch on Papa Nero beach on Pelion peninsula. 'Now I want to pursue the scientific angle to make scientists aware of the existence of the wild hexapus. 'It is the least that I can do given my ignorance and guilt that I feel for killing such a rare animal.' Labros has shown his evidence to specialists at the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research in Greece.
Seriously, what more do you guys want him to do? Be happy he's doing more than just "Welp, too late, it's dead now, I'll just go on with my life as if nothing happened".
I like how this headline is shamelessly trying to push the "stupid American" stereotype and it fell almost completely flat.
Dunno man, I thought it was common knowledge that an octopus got 8. 'Okto pous' litterally means 'eight-foot'. Still, if it's just a mutation its nothing more extraordinary than a four-leaf clover.
Even though they might of killed it, they still took a picture of it.
if I caught a 6 armed octopus I wouldn't think it was rare, I would think it lost some tentacles or maybe it was just born without them. I don't know how many people would know it was rare anyway.
If I caught an octopus with six legs, I probably wouldn't eat it because I would assume it's dangerous.
Why are we so fucking quick to kill everything special in the animal kingdom Like when we find the biggest of some species in the world and then immediately kill it because reasons
Cause Octopus tastes really good.
Yes because everyone is a Marine Biology major and knows that it's not simply an odd octopus.
Odd octupus sounds like the name of a comic villain

I don't like octopuses and quite afraid of them. Maybe because I'm from Australia, home to the blue ring octopus.
