Is Facebook a passing fad? Nearly half of Americans think so

In 50 years, Facebook will be a massive Obituary with millions of dead peoples complete life stories posted on a digital wall for the world to see.
I don't really think it will, I mean people are seriously invested in it with shit tons of photos and personal info, and with all your friends already there what incentive is there to leave? and I know FP is going to disagree with me but is there anywhere that does it better and has plenty of people using it? What alternatives would you recommend?
Path'd probably be better if other people used it. But they don't. So it's not.
1000 People = "Nearly half of Americans"
I'll take this with more than a grain of salt when the survey base is a tad larger.
thats how statistics work

Which is stupid, 1k is WAY too little to consider opinions of a whole country who's population is in the millions.
I study statistics so seeing they only asked 1000 people isn't saying much.
Facebook won't die any time soon in my opinion, mainly because it pretty much replaced instant messaging programs with the exception of Skype.

it's just too expensive to ask every man in the US, so they ask 1000 people and then extrapolate from it.
Still, it's not accurate to make such an statement
All you guys talking about having friends, What about when facepunch is down? :v:

What about it?
I use facebook to keep in contact with people I don't see anymore, yet at the same time I don't know them enough to actually call them often. FB is a nice casual in-between.
Hopefully people will face the fact that its composed of pure bullshit, including people talking about shoes and clothes, duckfaces, how they would like to take it in the ass from the guy in the photo above (I shit you not) and talking about other kinds of shit nobody with a brain would care.
Only thing nice about it is how you can look up your friends and talk to them, else, cesspool.
It's funny how I've never seen any of this.
I don't think anyone understands that you are not suppose to add random people but people you actually talk too. Everyone saying it's a cesspool of shit must have some crappy ass friends.
Facebook is good, and if someone makes consistently stupid posts there are several things you can do.
First, Facebook has lists, such as Family, Close Friends, and Acquaintances. I usually put all the bullshit or people I don't really talk to anymore under "Acquaintances".
You can also unsubscribe from a single person, as shown earlier in this thread.
Or, you can just delete them off your friends list. If you don't like what they post, block them.
And most of those 1000 people then went to their facebook accounts and wrote on theirs walls.
I just had a survey question. Told them the real truth, that facebook will be a passing fad.
It's not going nowhere.

What the hell does everyone have against Facebook anyways, do you not have friends?
I apologize for not using Google +, but a vast majority of my friends use facebook.
I hate posters like these [img_thumb]http://www.feelnumb.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/like_us_on_facebook_feelnumb.jpeg[/img_thumb]

This is one of the reasons I fucking hate facebook. People start assuming, incorrectly most of the time, that someone who refuses to allow a multi-billion dollar corp who cares as much about your privacy as they do about making container ships have access to all your private info somehow doesn't have friends. It's bullshit and it needs to stop.
I've got plenty of friends. Real, actual friends I do real, actual things with. I don't need facebook to keep in touch with them.
I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Especially after these "LIKE IF YOU CARE ABOUT THIS STARVING AFRICAN FETUS AND YOU LOVE GOD" things caught on.

Or friend who are just dumb enough to swarm around that kind of shit I just mentioned.
