Well, all the Valve employees assigned to Steam probably have one of the worst christmasses possible right now.
What is there to change exactly? This was the first time this glitch happened.
Its not the first time that an update to the website has caused issues though.
better late than never right?
With valve better late than never means after its been fucked and burned. So basically it's never.
Jokes on them i've got no cash anywhere
only reasonable way i can see valve compensating this is to give anyone who accessed the steam store in the past hour a "get any game free in our store" coupon or something. and even more Compensation to those who were massively effected via bank/password change fuckery.
And how much do you wanna bet they're STILL going to change nothing after this blows over?
Watch as nothing changes and Valve continues without any conduct changing because of the insane adoration of these hacks this is the kind of shit that should make a company collapse
I bet this is a grand conspiracy plot to force everyone to use mobile authenticator :tinfoil:
Good thing I have $50 in my steam account, can't wait to log back in to find 10 new games and 5 cents left. Good thing steam has refunds.

how long does the cache go back? I made a purchase two days ago
Like fair enough that we're all mad, we should be, but it is christmas at noon, how many people do you really think are at work today? Not many is my guess.
Like, I almost can't handle how poor this is, so much public info available, and not only to people hacking a database or anything, but open to everyone. The only good that can come out of this is to make Valve shit their collective lazy pants and actually do some fucking work for once
>update I'm able to get into my account. I am lucky enough to have been using a SEPARATE+ email from my real email, none of my card information is associated with my steam at all whatsoever, I use a different password... so I'm not scared to log into steam. All my games were gifted. So what I'm seeing right now: My steam has been set to (what I think looks like) russian.
With valve better late than never means after its been fucked and burned. So basically it's never.
You're right, they should've left it as is. Basically the same effect anyway
Fuck, and there are probably people out there logging account details in attempt to blackmail people and shit later on
at least they're losing tons of revenue from the sale today, being Christmas and all. I'd be more sympathetic if it wasn't a problem born from their own incompetence
so like i unlinked my debit card through steam what should i do? how at risk am I realistically?
only reasonable way i can see valve compensating this is to give anyone who accessed the steam store in the past hour a "get any game free in our store" coupon or something.
well fuck it'd be worth it to me with that, i don't give a shit if people see my email and PO box
Are you serious.... I just bought something, like 3 hrs ago...
Like fair enough that we're all mad, we should be, but it is christmas at noon, how many people do you really think are at work today? Not many is my guess.
if i was a steam server admin, i would have a remote killswitch app in my phone or computer specifically for this purpose.
so like i unlinked my debit card through steam what should i do? how at risk am I realistically?
it all depends if SessionIDs were obtained, if they were, you are fucked.
I'm just watching my wallet and emails like a HAWK, praying to god i don't get something i really don't wanna see. Jesus Mother of God how do you fuck up THIS HARD?
this is the kind of shit that should make a company collapse
No its not, this is not the first time nor will it be the last time that a website has a technical issue which exposes data. Heck a UK greeting card company literally exposed all of their customer data (on demand not randomly like this) and they are still doing great business.
I'd be more sympathetic if it wasn't a problem born from their own incompetence
We don't know that yet
>update I'm able to get into my account.
so like i unlinked my debit card through steam what should i do? how at risk am I realistically?
Just monitor your banking account online, that's the safest bet. Cancel the cards and request new ones if you must, the banks are good about this kind of thing.
Oh man, just think of the sweet Dota 2 cosmetics we'll get as compensation for this.
Just monitor your banking account online, that's the safest bet. Cancel the cards and request new ones if you must, the banks are good about this kind of thing.
Huge over reaction, don't cancel your cards.
Well, all the Valve employees assigned to Steam probably have one of the worst christmasses possible right now.
It's what happens when the people in charge decide they don't feel like taking responsibility for anything, even though they play a major part in the pc gaming industry.
