Fuck, and there are probably people out there logging account details in attempt to blackmail people and shit later on
And now my paranoia has increased
We don't know that yet
Valve is such a shitshow I wouldn't be fucking surprised
it all depends if SessionIDs were obtained, if they were, you are fucked.
well thats just what i need for christmas. literally moving to france to study in a couple of weeks and this happens lol
So, this has been going on for an hour straight and STILL Valve haven't given any information? Why are Valve so shit at PR?
only reasonable way i can see valve compensating this is to give anyone who accessed the steam store in the past hour a "get any game free in our store" coupon or something. and even more Compensation to those who were massively effected via bank/password change fuckery.
Don't worry. I'm sure they'll say they're very sorry.
It's pretty sad that SteamDB is the one giving us all this info on the fly and not, ya know, VALVE THEMSELVES BECAUSE IT'S THEIR SERVICE.
please tell me i can go to sleep now. I don't want to leave steam over night
thanks for the christmas present valve
We don't know that yet
It's very unlikely that it wasn't caused internally due to the random nature of pages showing up and disappearing. I'd be REALLY surprised if Valve wasn't accidentally at fault for this.
I'm refreshing my email every damn second, how can valve fuck up this bad..
Since now we can delete the games without any support or email approval, does that mean someone could just have deleted all my games due to a glitch? thanks valve
Can somebody verify this? Im scared as fuck right now.
I'm getting the feeling with the major, MAJOR amount of shit this allows people to get a hold of, names, numbers, addresses and other shit, and the fact that it's entirely possible that people will steal accounts and buy games with this (it's definitely being attempted), I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Valve got sued in to oblivion. How do you fuck up this fucking bad?
lol everyone will forget about it in a week.
Watch as nothing changes and Valve continues without any conduct changing because of the insane adoration of these hacks this is the kind of shit that should make a company collapse
What are you talking about? Valve's been implementing such obtrusive countermeasures against account compromisations that it's irritating people- and now you're complaining they're not changing anything? This wasn't even a hack, it was a technical error. If anything, the cause of this problem seems out of Valve's hands. I'm not going to say it was, but I'm not going to say it wasn't, because just like everyone else here, I don't know how Valve's servers work so I'm not going to make ridiculous assumptions and accusations.
a hour is unacceptable when it comes to a shitstorm like this maybe 5-20 minutes, but a whole fucking hour is just "shut it the fuck down" tier. seriously.
It's Christmas, I'm sure they didn't expect this at all
Since now we can delete the games without any support or email approval, does that mean someone could just have deleted all my games due to a glitch? thanks valve
no
Since you can edit numbers on an account, I wonder if you can trigger a password reset and take control of someone's account by adding your own number. Who would be stupid enough to do that, though. Right? I am not a smart man, and I wouldn't
I tried it just to check and see if I was at risk, it doesn't work. that's how I figured out it was a caching issue and not a database issue
We don't know that yet
if you have an alternative idea, i'd love to hear it, but this is a caching error and pretty much 100% their own dumbass faults

I'm pretty sure if there's credit card info saved, you can just call your bank and tell them to cancel your payment.
you cant do anything with account settings except view no one changed anything, no one bought anything, people could only look at stuff
So, this has been going on for an hour straight and STILL Valve haven't given any information? Why are Valve so shit at PR?
Because they just don't give a fuck about running a digital pc games service and are just in it for that sweet-sweet community market dosh.
Can somebody verify this? Im scared as fuck right now.
not possible
So, this has been going on for an hour straight and STILL Valve haven't given any information? Why are Valve so shit at PR?
I'd imagine it'd be hard to give out a PR statement as such a large company when you're trying to focus on fixing the issue.
lol everyone will forget about it in a week.
yeah it's not like people had their personal info breached or anything, no big deal
It's Christmas, I'm sure they didn't expect this at all
Last year XBL/PSN had a massive DDOS attack shutting down both services on christmas day. it was a major issue. They should of had emergency staff on deck for this year incase someone tried to pull something stupid, even though they wernt a target last year.
Jesus fuck Valve, pull your heads out of your asses and fucking communicate with people. Goddamn.
Huge over reaction, don't cancel your cards.
Steam only shows the last four digits anyway, right? I'd imagine the cards themselves should be pretty safe as long as the databases are secure.
steam store is offline?
A friend of mine gifted his brother l4d2 just before this shit happened and now the gift is nowhere to be seen.
