All major banks would find a huge payment like that suspicious and probably hold it for checks
gg Valve. lol.
If you can actually defend valve right now take a good look at how much loyalty you're placing in a company that exists to make money off of you. There is no altruism in corporations. Valve does not love you as anything more than cash flow.
sure but you're not better using this situation to push your opinions
Just, take everything you see with a grain of salt guys. People with major gripes with valve before this whole thing started will likely use the situation to fake stories of losing shit, to get others on their side. Stupid, I know. But just remember that this IS the internet.
Source? Is this yours? It sounded like no one could actually do anything besides look at stuff.
Oh wait, your source is /v/ and it's going to auto-prune.
Like this shit. /V/ especially.
Holy fuck, I hope this isn't real.
it's not
The only reason why Valve has been able to be so awful for so long is because it's a private company. A public company would have been deleted off the stock market long ago.
Someone said their bank froze their account because of suspicious activity. Uh oh
So are the servers shut down now? Please tell me the situation is being handled
At this rate pretty slowly if not shittier.
no one can do shit with your accounts
chill the fuck out
What....
Shit happens.
Any company could fuck this up. Shit happens.
Besides store page is down and this gives Valve a very good opportunity to sort their support out if people did get affected and prove that their support is improving.
np guys shit happens, np at all
jeez valve can you at least wait until i lube up
Time to move to Origin boys

Even if every report of money being spent and attempted purchases was fake and I doubt it, that still doesn't change the fact that you can see tons of people's info and shit.

Their support isn't improving and that's the problem. It's been over an hour and the most they've done is disable the store. that's the most basic defense against this issue, and we have no clue what they're doing because they're so unstructured they can't take 15 minutes to say "we've got this shit locked down, chill people"
not to mention that allowing this to happen at all is a massive faliure of their system and its programming
But at the same time, the advice is bizarre and unhelpful.
Don't unlink your information guys, it'll only hurt you in some vague way, just leave it up there for some guy to potentially steal and abuse. That's somehow safer. The best way to protect yourself is to not use Steam Services, because ____
does not using them somehow prevent people from using mine? How? If you think you know something tell me what the fuck is going on
Because when you try to view something, Steam is trying to call stuff for you and it will be cached. Since the problem is the cache server displaying the wrong pages, your page may go to someone else. Basically, if you don't do anything at all, you're not being entered in to the system. If you try to do something, you may be put in tongue system and thereby be at risk.
Blackmail? How, exactly?
Phone number, email adress, home adress and name is some pretty private stuff, especially if you're a known youtuber or a high-end trader.
Im looking forward to this being blown up by every single gaming news publisher.
can you explain in super layman terms how removing my card from my steam account has put me at risk? people just keep dropping shit about caches and session id's and im clueless and im kinda shitting it here
web pages store info.
steams web pages are storing info and not dealing with it correctly, they're caching private data, and redistributing other people to those private links.
by activating your page, you load your info into the web page, you load your stuff into the cache. By doing so, you put your info into the cache to be redistributed.
Time to move to Origin boys
I'd still rather suck dick than use Origin the way I use Steam
There's going to be an ultra massive shitstorm if anything happens to just a dozen accounts because of this.
How in the fuck can this even happen, holy shit Valve you done fucked it up.
Haven't received any emails from random ass people so far *knocks on wood*
We still don't know if logging out or staying logged in is the right thing to do. We still don't know if people can buy things with your details. We still don't know if our accounts are safe on a basic level. If valve was competent, they would have some sort of official statement out, but we're still in the dark.
can someone just tell me if by unlinking my card details during this debacle has actually put me at serious risk? will people be able to view all the details of my credit card and how?
"This would never happen at UPlay"
yeah because theres no accounts to steal over at uplay

Are you kidding?
They have one of the most absurd kind of security issues you can have. Not leaking passwords, not leaking emails. Having their service load up another accounts session just by going to the store.
And taking 40 minutes to shut it down.
Phone number, email adress, home adress and name is some pretty private stuff, especially if you're a known youtuber or a high-end trader.
This is why I'm a wallflower.

there's a difference between just a regular old "shit happens" mistake and people potential being at risking of having personal information leaked to absolutely anyone.
this should be a wakeup call to people about how absolutely horrid valve's PR practices are as it's been an hour without any word from them.
All major banks would find a huge payment like that suspicious and probably hold it for checks
I've managed to pay a year of school fees (£33,000) with a debit card once, although that was using a payment terminal and not online. The largest online payment I've made so far is for a term's worth of other fees, which was about £1,500. It's definitely possible.
Someone said their bank froze their account because of suspicious activity. Uh oh
So a guy claimed without proof that his account was frozen, and you post that on like that happened without proof he even said it.
