what if you had credit info on steam before but did'nt log in while all this shit is going on are you still in the clear
I have over 20 alts, so I'd be happy if they did it.
And for exactly that reason they will (at most) give you a selection of free games.
So from what I can tell from the thread, it was 'only' a visual bug and no account information can be changed / nothing can be bought?
Yea that's correct
So from what I can tell from the thread, it was 'only' a visual bug and no account information can be changed / nothing can be bought?
Nothing could be changed or bought as far as anyone knows, but you could see personal info like home address if you had credit card info on your account or phone numbers (i think)
technically only visual, but still a massive fuckup
Looks about right.
I just find it hilarious that a community driven website has to let people know what to do, yet we have heard NOTHING from the actual company themselves.
Actually, I take that back. It's fucking sad.
It's almost as sad that none of our precious moderators have come by this thread to comfort us in our time of need.
So from what I can tell from the thread, it was 'only' a visual bug and no account information can be changed / nothing can be bought?
It's just a cached page. As far as we know, nobody can actually harm your account, only view some pieces of information if they stumble onto the right page. (e-mail, login name...)
what if you had credit info on steam before but did'nt log in while all this shit is going on are you still in the clear
you're basically in the clear anyway as all they'd have seen was the last 4 digits. Nobody knows if not logging on made a difference or not but people seem to think it would have done.
valve have an effective monopoly on the digital distribution platform, and just like any other business when you have an effective monopoly, improving your service is normally not something you'd do.
They don't. This isn't like a walmart in a small town. You could easily go to GoG. Valve just provides the best service.
Someone is wheeling their desk over right now to write the statement
I just want an official statement for crying out loud. Stop all these fake screenshots and such by just telling us straight what has happened, what has been compromised, and what they're gonna do.
It'll calm thing down, that's for sure.
Someone is wheeling their desk over right now to write the statement
You're not even wrong.
this really isn't a big issue rofl
stop taking this out of proportion
steam doesn't display any dangerous info like card numbers or passwords which would be stupid.
its just a caching mixup, facepunch had the same issue. you won't be able to do anything on the other persons account.

so GoG has all the new major AAA titles now? boy if I knew i could get fallout 4 DRM free I would've bought it there, thanks
oh wait, locked to steam!
no one believes that steamgames is real....
here's more proof if you're paranoid, i bought chivalry for 2.49USD yesterday...

Real name, full address and phone number are an issue.

Anyone using steam being able to see your home address and phone number: totally harmless
what if you had credit info on steam before but did'nt log in while all this shit is going on are you still in the clear
You're good. What happened was: you request a page, like the one with your info on it, and it gets pulled into the cache server. Something got loopy in the cache server and instead of your particular page getting sent to you, you could get somebody elses, and somebody else could get yours. As far as I understand.
Real name, full address and phone number is an issue.
Yeah I don't understand why people keep glossing over that

i dont really want people knowing my real name, post code, mobile phone number, home address so easily

Valve pretty much sells everything except EA games. GoG doesn't. And I wouldn't use steam for half of my games if it wasn't for Steamworks on retail copies.

Yeah, just a caching issue, not like you could see the keys that let you install games on steam. Not like steam has your phone number, name, address, and such in your billing information page.
oh wait that's exactly what steam has.

Technically if you did have a card attached to your account, it'd display the last 4 digits + the brand of card. It's not nice to have bunch of your details leaked to random people.
Real name, full address and phone number is an issue.
Steam shows your full address and full phone number? They don't. The only place that would happen(phone number only) is on the confirmation page which in theory wouldn't even work.
Same thing with the name. While some info like email is released, that in itself isn't as big of an issue as people are making out to be

the most dangerous monopoly is one people don't even notice they're stuck in.
For all the fucking people who say steamgames.com is fake then please be smart for once:

It's clearly fucking real. Not fake at all.

Last 4 digits is nowhere near as bad as the full number being released.

As far as we know, its an issue with their caching system. Thats what we can see from an unofficial statement.
We don't know if thats the only issue, or if there's something else that might have slipped trough.
As always, it's best to wait until more informations arise (Or maybe even an official statement).
I choose a good time to be away from steam for a few days. Glad I bought some facepuncher's some games beforehand and that my address is outdated anyway so i'm not worried.

If a card was already added, you could click edit, choose visa for example and it would load that exact information. I know I saw someone elses
It is almost guaranteed its a caching issue, FP had the same exact problem awhile back. And that was actually bad because the other persons session was also sent. Don't get me wrong, its not that the issue isn't concerning, its just not some "SUPER DANGEROUS EVERYONES DED" issue
