I bet behide closed doors steam was panicking they really need to fix there shit and hire more employees
A monopoly is when a single company holds an entire determined market, with no competitors.
Steam is not a monopoly. It's a quasi-monopoly, and even that's pushing it. Valve has a lot of competitors.
They don't have competent competitors.
They did a smart thing back in the days when they allowed other publishers' games on their store, meanwhile other publishers only carry their own games on their store, or we have GoG or Green Man Gaming doing their own independent thing.
But GoG's primary focus is still older games, but they have in the recent years realized they need to branch out, whereas Green Man Gaming is only known for the occasional ridiculously good game discounts.
There's a long long way between those two and the Steam store.
So does it live now?
This thread is about people's Steam info getting shown to others, not a debate on whether Steam is a monopoly or not.
The debate is because Steam is a large company and this happened.
How about you name me one.
It's literally been my whole point this entire time that a serious competitor doesn't exist, thanks for backing me up though
Monopoly is when one company controls the ENTIRE market. and prevents any competitors from entering said market.
Keep in mind that alot of websites sell steam keys too.

Your point says that you would say Steam, which isn't true.
Steam doesn't hold total market domination. Thus its not a monopoly.
Great job in reading my post. Want to try again maybe?
I am saying that the transactions are incorrect. That is not how refunds are displayed on pending transactions. Please reread my post.
whups, thought you meant that but also that steamgames isn't real
So steam is good?
Monopoly is when one company controls the ENTIRE market.
They are an effective monopoly, in that in most cases, your only option for PC gaming is steam. I'm not arguing they own literally the entire PC market

Walmart doesn't have a monopoly on this town; there's like two mom and pop shops to their 15 super centers!

They're not an "effective monopoly", they're not a monopoly at all. Nothing stops a company from starting up and asking to license games onto the service. Gog, Origin, etc, are all effective and have unique titles you can't get on Steam.
Seriously, Starlight will lie through his teeth about Steam and move his goal posts to the other side of the planet to avoid admitting he is wrong.
I mean, does he expect Steam, Amazon, GMG, Origin, UPlay, and every other service to have equal share with each other? Good fucking luck.

The difference is there are actual big digital game retailers other than Steam that you can buy games from. You cannot compare Walmart to Steam.

starlight is just baitposting because steam kicked his dog and killed his son

I'm starting to think at this point you are taking the word monopoly literal,
like its a pseudonym for the board game or something.

But Steam has the most publicity and largest community by far. Origin and GoG are generally seen as only worthwhile for major sales and alternative games not on Steam.

Oo oo can I be the banker?
Enough about starlight, more on the actual subject.
Is steam safe?

Go directly to jail and do not collect $200.

Its more than certain that people would jump ship from Steam if they provided better services, not more games. Case in point, a lot of people in this thread right about now.

Yes.

In size wise, yes. Steam is Valve's primary platform. Origin is just a distributor for EA and isn't really their main source of income (no cards, market fees, royalties, etc)

Seems safe enough for me, but if you want to be on the safe side stay logged out until Valve makes a statement.

I could compare Steam to Windows Movie Maker if I wanted. The thing is, no there isn't. Amazon Prime and GoG don't trouble Valve. They aren't a problem. Valve is not in danger of being run out of business because of GoG's popularity, not even close. GoG doesn't even offer a lot of the same items. GoG is not a serious competitor to Steam. Nothing you can name is. Steam doesn't have a serious competitor, period.
Walmart is not troubled by a mom and pop store. Starbucks doesn't care about your local coffee shop. It does not bug them because it cannot seriously compete with them.
Also, Steam doesn't force those games to use Steamworks and ergo require Steam, they make the choice because Steamworks offers them serious benefits for its use. So going "Well all these games use Steamworks and thereby require you to use Steam!" is stupid because that is only Steam's fault if you consider offering a service devs want to be bad.

Steam wasn't originally intended to be as big as it got. It was originally meant just as a distributor for Valve games, but people really liked it.

So a serious competitor must threaten the existence of a company?
the thing about this whole thing is spammers have your actual personal info to use for scams now
Only if you visited a page with personal information on it while this caching issue was happening. If you haven't used any steam service, you've got nothing to worry about.
