TIL you can embed tweets on facepunch
Has Valve really not commented on this? It's been like three hours
Chances are they will explain what happened because people will most likely fear that their accounts have been possibly stolen.
Not every Steam user goes on Facepunch or follows SteamDB to be aware of what actually happened.
You mean to provides games for you? I'd say given the millions of people they have, they typically do that job very well.
how about providing a decent customer support
Flat employment structure + nobody feels like being PR = nobody does PR.
It's literally impossible to run a company with 330 employees on flat structure. I'm not familiar with the inner workings of Valve, but I guess at least the part of them which is responsible for Steam has some form of organized structure, thus there should be someone there who is responsible for PR.
I mean nowadays businesses with like 10 employees have one person who is responsible for customer relations/PR full time and not just someone who writes a statement if he is not busy.
I'd be mad at Valve if they gave an instant statement because it'd show little care for the issue and they just shot out a PR attempt without investigating the issue.
What kind of mental gymnastics is this even? In what universe does a quick response time and communication imply them not caring about the issue? It honestly just sounds like you're desperately searching for ways to defend Valve on this fuckup.
just wondering, what did it look like if you got the cache of a steam store admin?
why were you bothering mods? they wouldnt exactly have any idea, and even if they did they too wouldve stopped using steam the moment it happened

Community moderators aren't Valve employees.
Yes, but they could put me in contact / could contact Valve employees about the issue.
I really don't see why people should judge Valve for not giving a statement until after Christmas and after a bit of time has passed so they can verify what the issue is.
I'd be mad at Valve if they gave an instant statement because it'd show little care for the issue and they just shot out a PR attempt without investigating the issue.
Because it doesn't take much for them to give a short message saying they are investigating it and telling us what they do know. (Such as, for instance, whether or not it was them being "hacked," and some of the most dangerous information possibly leaked so people can take as many precautions as they feel necessary, if any at all are needed. Some people aren't as informed and may still believe their confidential information is the possession of hackers somehow, given how today has gone so far.)
Clearly they've "fixed" the problem, so it's not like they know nothing about it. The steam store wouldn't be back up and running if they weren't confident it would be fine, so the lack of acknowledgment of the issue is very strange. I don't see much of a reason to wait until they have a big statement ready first and foremost, a short message would certainly do in the meantime, right?
I'm not a PR guy, but I really don't see the excuse here. Was what happened really that bad to share in a short number of words, or do they really know so little about it? I find the latter hard to believe at this point.
I'm alright launching Steam and playing games right? Its just interacting with any account and store stuff is a no-go right?
cuz we customers give them billion dollars every quarter for one single job they can't handle?
To be fair to Valve, A statement at this point would essentially be
We apologize for the inconvenince created to the customers of our Service at 25.12.2015.
For them to release an actually meaningful responce, it takes some time for data to be gathered and dececions to be made.
Maybe valve is being silent because the PR guy isn't answering calls because it's CHRISTMAS.
they could've at least put out a word that it's safe to log back in now that steam is back up instead of leaving people uncertain about things
I'm alright launching Steam and playing games right? Its just interacting with any account and store stuff is a no-go right?
It's probably fixed by now, I highly doubt they'd put it back up if it wasn't. Although, just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend avoiding administrative and financial based pages on steam until an official statement has been made on the matter.

It's all over I thought, should be fine doing everything afaik. But I'm probably not a reliable source.
Maybe valve is being silent because the PR guy isn't answering calls because it's CHRISTMAS.
stop using christmas as an excuse
stop using christmas as an excuse
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
It's probably fixed by now, I highly doubt they'd put it back up if it wasn't. Although, just to be on the safe side, I'd recommend avoiding administrative and financial based pages on steam until an official statement has been made on the matter.
I get the feeling our official statement is going to be a Reddit post starting with "I don't do PR on Boxing Days".
stop using christmas as an excuse
I agree, valve employees don't have families and if they do they should stop using some of the little free time they get to gather and talk to them to cater to people expecting an immediate response that very few companies actually do without prior investigation.
What kind of mental gymnastics is this even? In what universe does a quick response time and communication imply them not caring about the issue? It honestly just sounds like you're desperately searching for ways to defend Valve on this fuckup.
Both are suspect. If a company gets a response out too quickly, they likely haven't actually investigated or resolved the issue significantly, making the response unhelpful and insincere. But taking too long can be risky and indicate other issues with responses in general. Neither is necessarily bad, but neither is a good sign at the same time.
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
clearly some valve employees do since they were aware of the problem and fixed it
you seem to want to ignore that
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
So what.
They can't contact their PR guy (if there is even any)?
They just leave Steam running and no one takes care of the servers?
clearly they do since they were aware of the problem and fixed it
The issue more than likely was easy to fix but that doesn't mean they know all the details about it.
I get the feeling our official statement is going to be a Reddit post starting with "I don't do PR on Boxing Days".
Nah they've done this before, the statement will come as a Steam pop-up, so that everyone that uses Steam sees it.
And it'll just be that photo of Gabe smiling with "It's okay now" written.
:v:
Of all the times for this to happen, too. I imagine tech support's gonna be having a rough time today, or at least Boxing Day.
They won't. Since steam support is a myth.
is it all over?
The issue more than likely was easy to fix but that doesn't mean they know all the details about it.
You're right, what I'm saying is that they could at least tell their fucking MILLIONS of users that Steam is safe to use again instead of putting it back up without a word or even acknowledging the problem which most likely was caused because of their incompetence.
is it all over?
Seems you can log-in but some say you still can't buy stuff.
