You're right, what I'm saying is that they could at least tell their fucking MILLIONS of users that Steam is safe to use again instead of putting it back up without a word or even acknowledging the problem which most likely was caused because of their incompetence.
You are correct that it is probably their problem, but statements have to be run by PR departments, and those PR departments want explanations from the technical team, and then that has to be run by the higher ups for them to rubber stamp it. Getting all those people together on xmas is not as easy as it sounds. It will be up as soon as they can, I am sure, because they are losing revenue by people being unwilling to use the steam store due to the unknown factor.
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
90% of companies aren't responsible for the safety of people's personal and financial information. If you're going to take on that responsibility with your business, you've gotta be prepared for the possible issues going along with it.
is it all over?

Seems you can log-in but some say you still can't buy stuff. So it's like, half-over HEH
I can't login via Chrome, only client itself.
Idk I'm not having any issues with steam. Other than it going all weird and russian earlier and not being able to log in a couple times, playing games just fine.
clearly some valve employees do since they were aware of the problem and fixed it you seem to want to ignore that
Remote accessing their work computer or quickly running into the offices to fix the issue isn't a thing I'm guessing? I get that not providing a official response on this is the wrong thing to do, but it's Christmas, they probably have their hands full with their families.
So it's safe to go back on Steam? I was out and my computer was asleep when this shit went down, so I don't know if things are safe or not.
Idk I'm not having any issues with steam. Other than it going all weird and russian earlier and not being able to log in a couple times, playing games just fine.
That going russian was exactly the point - you were given a snapshot of a russian's view of steam, instead of your own. The russian, or somebody else got yours. Some people viewed financial information, and that was now seen by random strangers. [editline]26th December 2015[/editline]
So it's safe to go back on Steam? I was out and my computer was asleep when this shit went down, so I don't know if things are safe or not.
If you weren't buying things on steam while it was going down, you're completely fine and unaffected. It's most likely all fixed by now, but as I said earlier - I'd rather wait for the official statement from valve before I go to their store.
I agree, valve employees don't have families and if they do they should stop using some of the little free time they get to gather and talk to them to cater to people expecting an immediate response that very few companies actually do without prior investigation.
"We are investigating the issue with other accounts being visible when accessing Steam. This has been fixed in the meantime. A full statement will be released tomorrow. We apologize for any inconvenience." There, something which can be written at the dinner table and can be sent to twitter for temporary damage control without knowing anything.
I just bought Rainbow Six a moment ago; I'll let you know if I'm die later. EDIT: I was going to fix this, but fuck it; I'm not die yet.
I leave my computer for the day and shit goes down. I guess that is for the best. :v:
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
well it's quite clear they may need to pay some workers overtime to work on christmas oh and they neeed more workers
That going russian was exactly the point - you were given a snapshot of a russian's view of steam, instead of your own. The russian, or somebody else got yours. I have never set up a credit/debit card, billing address, or personal email affiliated with steam. I've never bought a game on steam. I'm good. All they could see was my email adress which IDGAF about because its not my main one.
When did it start "going down" as I bought a friend a game on steam for Christmas at about 12:45pm which is 7 hours ago for me. I didn't enter any of my credit card information because it's already on steam. All I had to do was enter the code for the credit card. Am I at risk?
It was about 4 or so hours ago from the posting of this reply. Did you get any problems logging in? Steam changing languages? That was the sign of the glitch. While those with saved payment information were partially compromised /see my reply on page 26/, you probably did it before the bug went on, and as such, are safe. Just think if you encountered the signs.
I leave my computer for the day and shit goes down. I guess that is for the best. :v:
I fixed my computer today after months of not using it and want to buy something during the sale to see it went down. :v:
nobody was ever able to take your CC info anyway, at worst they saw your last 4 digits
What about my address and phone number?
What about my address and phone number?
Everything someone might have seen is everything you see when you enter https://store.steampowered.com/account/ Much as information was leaked as if someone walked past your screen while having that page on.
What about my address and phone number?
Yes, they could be compromised but only if you opened a page that contained them during the glitch hour.
Maybe valve is being silent because the PR guy isn't answering calls because it's CHRISTMAS.
They're too big/influential to have fully Christmas closed for PR & support departments. Then again, they were running a beyond skeleton crew for their support & PR department before Christmas, so this just shows there's some glaring issues at Valve beyond the recent Steam store thing.
Everything someone might have seen is everything you see when you enter https://store.steampowered.com/account/ Much as information was leaked as if someone walked past your screen while having that page on.
Are you saying this happened while i was logged in or not logged in?
I've purchased and downloaded many games from steam with no problems. I've also downloaded games from Origin with no problems. I'm not mad because Valve can't make an immediate statement during a national holiday. There was never a threat to my personal information any more than a couple of people could find with a couple Google searches and the White Pages. Valve isn't the devil. Steam isn't horrible. Yet, Steam isn't perfect and Valve is more silent than they need to be on average. It's not a war. There were no casualties. I bet I could find half of you on the recent huge password leak databases, but I bet you didn't do more than change your password because it wasn't about the Orb of Confusion known as video game drama Go out and enjoy your holidays.
Are you saying this happened while i was logged in or not logged in?
Logged in.
Are you saying this happened while i was logged in or not logged in?
If you weren't logged in, you weren't compromised, simple as that.
You realize that 90% of companies don't work on Christmas, right?
Yeah but I can't go into those stores and buy stuff or have probems (since I can't go into the store)
If you didn't navigate the store while logged in you're 100% fine, if you viewed your account info or billing info pages, then your address and phone number have a small chance of being seen by someone and even smaller chance that said person saved it.
Yes, they could be compromised but only if you opened a page that contained them during the glitch hour.
What about mobile?
What about mobile?
Correction: Mobile/Desktop pages all had mixed up caching as well.
What about mobile?
I haven't tested, on one hand it was a serverside issue, on another - it's handled sperately as poster above me said.
I tried looking up Killing Floor 2 earlier today on steam and was brought to some kids account with a confederate flag avatar and a few dozen hours on KF2. It was all on Mobile.
I would have changed his avatar to a gay pride flag.
As has been said several times in the thread, you cannot act on anything on the pages
