I tried looking up Killing Floor 2 earlier today on steam and was brought to some kids account with a confederate flag avatar and a few dozen hours on KF2. It was all on Mobile.
This would mean that the glitch also affected mobile in the same way as it did pc. However, it's a mystery as to who saw your snapshot.
TIL you can embed tweets on facepunch
I've noted imgur albums can be embedded too, think I saw it in LMAO Pics. Back on topic, pretty wacky. I've been away from the internet until about an hour ago so I missed the whole thing. Though my account looks intact and no one's tried accessing it. I did enable two factor authentication for the time being though.
Thanks for helping me out y'all
Valve have released a brief statement to Kotaku
Steam is back up and running without any known issues. As a result of a configuration change earlier today, a caching issue allowed some users to randomly see pages generated for other users for a period of less than an hour. This issue has since been resolved. We believe no unauthorized actions were allowed on accounts beyond the viewing of cached page information and no additional action is required by users.
hoho I dodged a bullet
Valve gib free games pl0x for my emotional trauma during this difficult time.
No, Valve must surely die for this. Gabe Newell must be sacrificed to appease the Sunlight god, whose anger towards the evil that is Valve has gone unappeased for too long.
With the shit Kotaku has posted in the past, I wouldn't trust them regarding this.
With the shit Kotaku has posted in the past, I wouldn't trust them regarding this.
Here's GameSpot saying pretty much the same: http://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-issue-allowing-access-to-other-users-account/1100-6433371/
With the shit Kotaku has posted in the past, I wouldn't trust them regarding this.
Would they really make something like a statement from Valve up?
Would they really make something like a statement from Valve up?
Yes. At this point, yes, they would. Just for the clicks.
With the shit Kotaku has posted in the past, I wouldn't trust them regarding this.
What about GameSpot? It seems Kotaku and GameSpot both got the same statement from Valve. I think it's finally safe, guys.
no additional action is required by users.
Well, unless you had your credit card info saved, then you're going to want to watch for some pizza delivery guys knocking on your front door. Other than that, yeah, totally no action at all except for the people we inadvertently doxed!
I smell free source game download for 24 hours because of this... Probably shity Portal again.
I smell free source game download for 24 hours because of this... Probably shity Portal again.
Woah woah shity Portal? Watch your language
Would they really make something like a statement from Valve up?
They're been posting biased articles and also outright lying around a year ago, so posting a lie about this for hits isn't too far fetched of them.
What about GameSpot? It seems Kotaku and GameSpot both got the same statement from Valve. I think it's finally safe, guys.
Much more reliable source than Kotaku, but I don't buy it that "nothing serious happened" when users were indirectly doxxed if they had their real name & addresses tied to their account. When user info is involved, the last thing to do is downplay it like it's nothing since that is and will always be serious. Especially since that info were both required for purchase in some cases so it couldn't be left out, and that some people trusted Valve with that the info were only available for people on their friends list could see it.
If you didn't navigate the store while logged in you're 100% fine, if you viewed your account info or billing info pages, then your address and phone number have a small chance of being seen by someone and even smaller chance that said person saved it.
I logged in on the steam client and the steam server connection was down so I couldn't browse the store or do anything online. I'm assuming I'm fine?
im so angry SO ANGRY my information MY PERSONAL INFORMATION GOD DAMN VALVE YOU MOTHERF- Uuuuuu 33% on MGSV!

I'd be more concerned with people attempting social engineering. It's the season of giving! So they are giving away all of your personal and financial details to the wonderful strangers of the InterNet!
Woah woah shity Portal? Watch your language
If they made CS:S free after this forever I would be happy.
If they made CS:S free after this forever I would be happy.
People still play that? I see more people still playing ol' 1.6 more than the old source version.
As has been said several times in the thread, you cannot act on anything on the pages
Yes, I know about that, it was clear after the first reports that this was a read-only thing. I just said that I would do that if there were the possibility given.
If they made CS:S free after this forever I would be happy.
I wouldn't. CSS sucks compared to both CSGO and CS1.6
People still play that? I see more people still playing ol' 1.6 more than the old source version.
It would solve a lot of problems for the Gmod community.
help why do i see error model and checker board textures!

People still play that? I see more people still playing ol' 1.6 more than the old source version.
I don't mean to be a dick, but there are some people that are too damn snooty to just move on to CSGO because something something casual something skins something.
I wouldn't. CSS sucks compared to both CSGO and CS1.6
Nah not for bhop and surf mate. Bhops still big in css. Can't say I agree with all the melodrama about this incident though..
"Nobody in here knows what monopoly means." It's true. Caching and database errors don't happen to businesses that don't have monopolies. People are right to be mad. [editline]25th December 2015[/editline]
I really don't see why people should judge Valve for not giving a statement until after Christmas and after a bit of time has passed so they can verify what the issue is. I'd be mad at Valve if they gave an instant statement because it'd show little care for the issue and they just shot out a PR attempt without investigating the issue.
That may be true but at the very least they could say something like "We are aware of the issue and are sorry, and we are currently investigating." That said, I'll wait 24 hours before I get really mad.
I can't say I'm comfortable with third parties accidentally seeing even the last 4 digits of my credit card. People are right to be mad.
warning leak of credit card information: 3432 9922 5381 4934 I'm definitely a hacker guys
