btw our motorways are 70mph limit with usual speed of 80. how's that 55mph taste.
Speed limits here don't go above 65 but nobody really goes less than 80 when they know cops aren't around

I deal with it fine, just keep your cool and if necessary: brace for impact!
I'm pretty sure it's not the thing about laws, just that European roads are much harder to drive on. American roads are all pre-planned, a grid system in all cities pretty much. And then they have big-ass highways everywhere. Meanwhile, European cities, since they're all old, are clusterfucks of small roads that intertwine in all kinds of ways. That makes driving more intimidating if you're not used to such roads.
There's only a handful of cities in the US that grew organically like the old European cities, and the only one of particular note is Boston.
US cities exploded in population when horseless carriages were starting to become available.
The Cold War did wonders for the road networks in the US. Before Eisenhower's interstate system, the only way between states or cities were meandering roads at 45 mph. Now there's an interstate passing through or around almost every major city, and every section of the interstate is basically identical; lane width (larger than most European roads), sign placement, on-off ramps.
You haven't seen god-awful drivers until you've been to the Mediterranean's shores. You need to drive like a total retard to avoid all the other retards trying to kill you on the road by driving on the wrong side, doing a 150 on a county road, freaking out at the sight of snowflakes, and driving on Friday.
I'd really like to see how well they fare with traffic laws. Especially in countries where signal quality near borders might botch their behavior.
As someone living in Malta at the moment, the amount of driverless cars being involved in accidents would go up drastically if they came over here. I saw a flatbed truck with the back filled with gas canisters going like 60mph down a road 1 car wide a couple of weeks ago
