Windows 10 starting to be downloaded by GWX for those that reserved their upgrades
221 replies, posted
I got it to download and then it said preparing for install and then it said update failed
Fuck it I'll try tomorrow
[editline]29th July 2015[/editline]
When will the ISO be out?
Should I back up my more important files onto an External drive before upgrading or is it pretty seamless? This is coming from a guy who hasn't backed up his system ever, not even when I first bought it in 2011
Also how do voice commands work? Do you need a dedicated microphone or do laptop webcams work too?

Thanks Micrisoft. I swear I saw this same typo on a different dialogue.
Just made the update 20 minutes ago from Windows 7. Everything jumped over without a hitch so far. I reinstalled my nvidia drivers with their newer Windows 10 build just in case but everything else has migrated over without a problem.
4am and no upgrade yet, looking forward to jumping to the future of tomorrow.
Windows 10 doesn't support my FX-8350? :<

Yep that did the trick for me. It already had downloaded it and everything but this command gave it the kick in the ass to start the upgrade. As for my laptop which is also on Windows 7 it just started downloading right away.
It seems that after doing the powershell thing, stuff is starting to download in the SoftwareDistribution/Download folder automatically

Check your windows update. See if it's downloading already. You can run it from the default whatever CMD pops up.

Just "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" into the cmd as such:

The cmd thing doesn't work for me. I hope I can get it to install before I go to bed so I can keep it installing overnight
It's telling me it's rejected and I don't even see Windows 10 in Windows Update despite having pro. What the fuck, Microsoft.
Check your BIOS. It may have Execute Bit (NX) disabled. Or the other required features of the CPU.
Worst case is the BIOS doesn't support those CPU features. I know in my ASUS G73Sw that I had to get a custom BIOS to enable AES-NI.

is it meant for if you don't already have the folder downloaded?
i've had that all day i'm just waiting for the actual activation stuff to start up
Do the command prompt thing in administrator mode
[editline]28th July 2015[/editline]

Still didn't work, but I'm completely qualified and compatible for W10 and have a reserved copy.
look in the hardware section
We have been talking about how to force the download through powershell
Wait, wait wait wait wait.
This is a legit, honest-to-god upgrade? No clean install?
That's a new one.

Same deal, ran CMD under administrator and used this command, nothing happens.
Maybe it's somewhat related to MS delivering updates by waves.
Still kinda nervous about upgrading. not sure if all my programs and settings are gonna like it.

You can do a clean install after the upgrade has finished.
Or just download the downloader from here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 .
Accidentally clicked 'reserve' without being fully aware as to what will happen.
Can someone give me a breakdown as to whats going to happen when I install?
I have stuff like rainmeter and btsync always running and I'm concerned they won't transfer over nicely.

I have very little installed after formatting the other day, but after it installed (Upgraded without a clean install of windows) Everything is as I left it. Even AMD Overdrive sets my CPU VID voltages to 1.275 on boot like I set it, and didn't default it to the RIDICULOUS BULLSHIT OF 1.4V my Motherboard INSISTS is stock like it normally does after any windows update
My task bar is the same color, it's the same size (I use the small taskbar rather than large), My icons are still using small icons instead of normal ones on the desktop. Every setting I set is the same, except for the User control security settings which I had to turn off again so it'll stop warning me every time I click an .exe

You get the choice of either of these:
Keep your documents, settings and programs.
Keep only your documents and settings.
Keep nothing.
Rainmeter keeps it's configuration in your documents so they will pass over fine. Not sure about btsync but unless it has problems with Windows 10 specifically it should be fine.
But once it's downloaded it asks you when you want to install so you can wait if you want.
Thank you guys for putting my mind at ease.
Half of me is lazy and doesn't want to reinstall/reconfigure applications and the other half if genuinely concerned because I have some stuff set up on here that would be a pain to reproduce.
If it's not downloading yet, but you reserved it (maybe it works for everyone?) do this:
Go to window update, choose "change settings" choose "download and install updates automatically".
Now push Windows key + R, type 'cmd' and push enter. In the black window that opens, paste the following:
wuauclt.exe /updatenow
Then hit enter.
Go check windows update and it should show "Downloading Windows 10"
Make sure to launch CMD as administrator.
If it didn't work, try it with the Windows Update window open, and closed, not sure if it needs to be either.
Tried this, it downloaded Windows 10 for about 5 seconds then said it had failed and I needed to restart my computer, did that and now Windows Update is constantly checking for updates.
Is there a Windows logo on your task bar? Click on that.
No, I never got it and I don't know why
No, I never got it and I don't know why
Did you download the optional update through Windows update to get the payload in the first place?
It's KB3035583 if you haven't downloaded it.
