If you actually saw the rally speech you'd know he didn't back down.
Trump suggested broadcast networks were unwilling to go along with his demand that at least $10 million raised from the encounter be donated to charity.
He's still willing to do it if they give $10-$15 million to charity.
Because the network that hosts the debate would get a ton of cash and views.
The only real list I could find of Donald Trump's charitable donations is here, but according to that he has not once given to a women's health-focused charity.
Kind of odd that he'd care about it oh so much now, when he has a massive misogyny image issue.
What a coward. Just goes to show he's all talk and no action.
Name a media organization that wouldn't do something to push their own agenda.
And I don't want to marginalize Armenian Americans but they are an incredibly small minority.
I see your point on the media thing but the young turks have accused flash games of representing society's desire to kill gays.
There are also a small amount of Jewish voters but no candidate would agree to be on a show run by Stormfront.
here's one.

TYT doesn't have as much cash as other mainstream networks and they were willing to donate 1 million
It would be nice to see TYT do the debate because I really do like some of their work. And there would be a degree of poetry to two popular outsider candidates giving a boost to an effective "outsider" in the media. But I'm fairly certain Trump, being the braggart he is, wants to do this big or not at all. It has to be big enough to have its own channel on cable, and it has to be "American" so that rules out organizations like al-Jazeera and Russia Today (which is a shame as IIRC Russia Today hosted the third-party candidate debate 4 years ago).
Effectively, the only people that can make this debate happen right now are the higher-ups of the mainstream media outlets (CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc.). A Trump vs. Sanders debate is a golden goose and Trump is insisting that they effectively give it away for free so he can take credit for it. The debate would be the greatest outcome for charity and Trump. The reason is that even if he gets the most liberal debate moderators ever, even if Sanders disembowels him live on television, he can still turn it around after the debate by saying what a great thing for charity he did by striking this "magnificent deal" with the news media. And to a degree it'd be true, because if he didn't demand it so, it wouldn't have been so. Charity would have received the most amount of money possible and Trump would roll in the cheap PR all the way to November. The executives of the various mainstream media outlets need to think long and hard about whether it's worth it to host what will probably be the most-watched political event until the debates before the election in November but at the same time make almost nothing from it, perhaps even operating at a loss depending on how much money going to charity we're talking here, or not having it at all and risk having one of their competitor's hosting it instead. There's a lot of considerations involved for these people and it's not a decision they will be taking lightly.

Extreme example but both are apologists for genocide.
Then why did'nt he say no the first time or I would think about it?

Nah he did back down, the statement is right on his website

Does the Young Turks deny the Armenian genocide?

why dont they just do it on PBS or something
What a coward. Just goes to show he's all talk and no action.
Yeah, I can't imagine voting for him as president.
Does the Young Turks deny the Armenian genocide?
No, I believe they're talking about two articles Cenk wrote over 15 years ago on the Armenian Genocide that he has since apologized for. At this point the claim that he is an apologist for genocide is absurd, let alone painting TYT as a whole with that same brush considering how one of the co-hosts of TYT is an Armenian-American.

Cenk is hardly an unbiased and level-headed host.

Could this repel some of the if-not-Sanders-then-Trump voters?
Then who are we supposed to vote for if he loses, Hillary?
I hate trump with a passion, but he is the devil I know. Hillary is a liar and and a criminal, can't trust a thing she says.
At least with trump I know what I'm getting. It's like the 2012 election all over again.
What a coward. Just goes to show he's all talk and no action.
This is a smart tactic to use: berate him and ridicule this move as cowardly until he gives in. As sensitive to his reputation as Trump is, with enough people doing it I could see it working. He still hasn't let the small hands thing go. It's hilarious how fragile his self-esteem is.
1 million doesnt equal 10 million and the Young Turks will use that to push their own agenda. Besides, there's no better way to piss off Armenian voters than by agreeing to appear on the network that's named after the perpetrators of the Armenian genocide.
Armenian voters who would watch the TYT Sanders v Trump debate can probably be counted on one hand, and if they were informed on both the origin of TYT's name and the Young Turk movement itself they probably wouldn't be too pissed off. Reminder that one of the hosts is Armenian.

He has lied or flipflopped as much as she has, I'd say more though. We definitely know Hilary's positions but Trumps changes by the week after he says something stupid and his advisors remind him how dumb that is, so he backtracks to something only slightly less retarded.

I love though how the people in SH who most ardently supported Trump are calling his bullshit out. Cognitive dissonance at it's finest. This election is nuts.
Extreme example but both are apologists for genocide.
No, they aren't.
Aren't there particular rules that forbid unsanctioned debates between both parties that both the RNC and DNC follow? It would need to be sanctioned by the two parties and I doubt they would allow such an event to happen. I would post links but I'm on my phone at work.

Yeah but Hillary straight-up broke her agreement that she would do a debate in California and nothing happened to her so
I like how every jumped to call Trump a coward when no respectable news network is willing to put up the cash for charity and yet Trump (Monkah's post really nailed it), is somehow at fault. It would've been nice to see the debate, and I still think it could've worked in Trump's favor. But when you really think about it, debating the loser is somewhat pointless, the only good that could've come from it was taking more of the Bernie camps voters.

I really find it hard to be believe that you can be that brainwashed.
Doesn't Hillary avoid debates like the plague, from anyone? If you actually read his statement it doesn't seem "cowardly" like the conclusion everyone is jumping to based off the title. He's basically saying that Bernie has no chance to compete with him so a debate would ultimately be pointless. He's not exactly wrong, I'll be surprised if Bernie suddenly makes it into the general election. If that does happen this debate would be back on. He says "first place runner, whoever that may be"
Its a shame. We'll hopefully see something about this in the future. Hillary vs Trump won't be as even a debate.
[editline]28th May 2016[/editline]
I mean, trump is 100% the republican candidate. The democratic is tbd. Putting this off till it can be an actual presidential debate isn't that unreasonable to me, as much as I wanna see this
I guess "Crazy Bernie" was too much for him.
Do you believe Trump will be a good president and if so why?
I think so, he isn't perfect but I certainly think he was and is the best option out of all the candidates. I think the skills required to achieve what he has will translate well to politics and running a country. I'd rather take a chance on Trump than with Hillary or Sanders.

Brave sir Donald ran away
When the debate came to a head
He bravely turned his tail and fled
Yes, brave sir Donald turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out.
also, ABC also was gonna donate
