Matchmaking wasn't what killed Titanfall
The lack of a skinner box did
It did have a progression and prestige system with tons of grinding in the bag.
If you ask me it was the lack of initial content that made too many people adapt a "I might check it out later" mentality. It was also released as an Origin exclusive in a time where people were still very apprehensive about it.
Personally I also wasn't a fan of the DLC and wanted to hold off until a GOTY as usual in these cases, but by the time the complete edition came out, there wasn't even much of a Titanfall corpse left to speak of anymore.
"Hey nobody likes what we're doing again. Let's just ignore them again since we know better what they want."
I like having a server I can play on as it builds community and I know the people who are playing on it.
I don't see why everyone is so annoyed, I hate having a server browser in Online FPS because it allows people put the most silly restrictions/modifications on gameplay like "Certain weapons only/banned", "Fast XP" or only having certain maps. This means that it's so hard to find a server where people are just playing the vanilla game.
No offense but that comes off as quite stupid since the point of having a server browser is that you have the choice of going into the server you want to.
If it's something you don't like then simply don't go there. Besides that server browsers typically have search bars and filters so you can easily find vanilla servers if that sniper limit is too hard to handle.
Battlefront has a party system, use that to join with friends, or hit the "Join Game" option on the friends list.
They better add some filters such as choosing server region, player limit, and maps. Otherwise that is a big no-no for me.
I think you could set filters for battlefields match making
I know you could select game type

The Problem with the "if you don't like it then don't go there" argument is that there often isn't any good alternatives, especially when the game doesn't have a large player base, and in many games you can't filter out specific server mods.

So take the choice away from everyone? If most people are playing a ceartin type of server its because most people want to play that type of server. Sorry if you don't like it, I do understand what you mean, but using that as justification to take away every ones choice is ridiculous.
lmao corporate ea shouldn't be allowed to make games anymore they just make pure shit
The removal of the server browser is a big disappointment for me, but if they can at least make sure you can join games with friends and have some kind of game filtering it's not a deal-breaker.
that's it, everyone pack up
how could you fuck up this hard
Csgo literally destroyed the server browser, I don't really see why this is such a big deal.
Csgo literally destroyed the server browser, I don't really see why this is such a big deal.
Not really. There is a thriving custom games community on csgo that rely on the server browser.
I liked being able to choose what map, gamemode, ping and number of people to play with
Fucking EA ruins everything, there goes almost all my interest for Battlefront 3
It makes sense because of how big matchmaking is in CSGO, it's mainly used for competitive matches. I don't think Battlefront 3 will ever reach the same competitive popularity.
Even in non-competitive circles, having a skill based matchmaking system (that can likely be circumvented with parties of friends) should mean you spend less time joining servers filled with tryhards or people who literally spend their lives playing the game.
One major issue with BF3 I had was joining a server and being incapable of doing anything because everyone else actually has nothing going on in their lives and could spend all day getting good with cheap shit like the M16a3. It's impossible the judge the skill level of a server when joining it, and that lead to a lot of really unfun games.

Who said you wouldn't be able to do those things? It's a standard in console games that you can set preferences for what matches you want to join, such as yes the map, game mode, game size and searching for local players to matchmake with only.
Uh oh, I think it might be time to change my avatar again...
Anyone think it'll be possible for the community to mod in a custom browser? Otherwise I can't see people running the risk of being constantly matched to shit servers. Not to mention how easy it'll be for hackers to get away with ruining matchmaking given DICE's record for not punishing hackers beyond resetting their stats.

If you're referring to unlocks then that's DICE's fault for not balancing them properly. Requiring players to unlock essentials like missiles and flares for jets was a stupid move. IMO unlocks shouldn't give people too much of an advantage.
But if you're referring to skill in general I see your point but that's what optional matchmaking is for. That doesn't mean the entire playerbase should be treated like they're not old enough to make their own decisions.
I like having a server I can play on as it builds community and I know the people who are playing on it.
yeah you lose that sense of community entirely with matchmaking
join a random game with a bunch of random people you've never seen and will never see again, play for a little while, and then quit
its not the same as dedicated community servers

I'm referring to actual player skill. Largely the only unlocks a person needed in BF3 was the heavy barrel for the M16a3, flares for air vehicles and that was it (if you haven't already guessed I fucking hate that gun).
Was the lack of server browser 100% confirmed as a PC thing though? The Battlelog system has already proven it's worth with the games it supports, the best server browser DICE have ever made really (not saying much as their previous attempts were awful however), it just seems very out of the norm for them to roll a new one just for this game.
Wait, no server browser, period?
I thought this whole commotion was some Battlelog style bullshit being used but no way to choose your servers?
There are no words for the absolute scale of how moronic that is
Dice is very adamant in proving they don't understand why people liked Battlefront!!
This is the kind of thing that'd keep me from purchasing the game tbh, because it pretty much demonstrates how little they care about PC if they won't even put in the features that distinguishes PC from consoles. Depends how the rest is, but due to the lack of space battles as well it's probably going to be a no.
Would it be possible to have an external third-party server browser? That seems like something which doesn't seem impossible to implement, although I don't know if you'd get banned for that for some bullshit "YOU DID A THING WE DIDN'T WANT TO DO" reason.
I don't understand how people can defend a complete lack of a server browser. I understand how a matchmaking system is good if you don't want to join a specific server, but that's no reason to take away the option for those who want to! When I played TF2, I got into a quebec server and I was part of a community. We met every couple of days to play and have fun. That kind of thing could never happen in a matchmaking-only system, because as Luni said earlier, meeting random strangers on random servers that you may or may not see again, that doesn't make a community...
And the reasons not to buy the game keep coming.
That's a shame.
Holy fuck, what was that sound?!
Oh, that's just my interest in Battlefront 3 has gone "POP!". Not having a server browser for a PC game is inexcusable. There's zero reason not to have one. At the very least, out-of-game one a-la BF3/4.
Already didn't want the game, now I will never want it.
Csgo literally destroyed the server browser, I don't really see why this is such a big deal.
What the hell are you talking about? The custom server community in csgo is huge. Most people use matchmaking for competitive matches, which makes sense because of the need for a controlled environment when doing a competitive match.
When I first heard that this game will have vehicles as power-ups only, I gave it the benefit of the doubt because few games execute this pretty well.
But then this pops up.
Welp, there goes any interest I had for this game. RIP.
but if they can at least make sure you can join games with friends
You could in the Alpha
Though it was a bit buggy, as expected with an Alpha. There is a party system, I don't remember how many people could be in a party at a time.

I'm sure there will be filters for game mode, and possible maps.
There were for Battlefield's matchmaking
