Server browsers are fucking shit and unnecessary. Matchmaking solves that, and it's just less of a pain.
I don't think server browsers are generally used to find the most populated server. (Yea people can pick the population with them)
However, for me, and I assume a lot of other people, they use it to find a server they can be a regular on. Others become regulars, and you get friendships from that community in the game.
With matchmaking it's like "oh who's going to be on my team this time" And you don't get to talk with the same people constantly unless you make an effort to continue to play with them.
At least with server browsers, communities can be built in the game.
Knew they'd find some way to fuck the game up majorly.....
Csgo literally destroyed the server browser, I don't really see why this is such a big deal.
Except csgo actually has a server browser?
1943 treatment. Just get it out as 'fan service', minimum support, minimum features
1943 treatment.

at least 1943 was a budget title that came out with little fanfare
At least Battlefront is getting a PC release.
At least Battlefront is getting a PC release.
not much point even releasing it on pc if they're gonna pull shit like this with it.
The more I hear, the less I want this game.
Your loss then.
I found the alpha amazing, def getting this either Day one or a couple months down the road, depending on my money and how much school is bogging me down.
Maybe I'm weird, but the lack of server browser doesn't bother me at all.
Maybe because I'm used to games like halo, which does not have a server browser.
that's it, everyone pack up
how could you fuck up this hard
DICE and EA are just getting started. We'll have a full-blown shit storm and the Battlefront game we dreamed of will not be what comes from the ashes.
Csgo literally destroyed the server browser, I don't really see why this is such a big deal.
I agree with this.
I used to love server browsers, didn't think games would be fun unless i got to choose where i wanted to play.
But now I don't care.
Matchmaking has become smart enough these days that player skill is taken into account and everything. I welcome this.

How can you agree with it? It makes no sense considering csgo has a server browser that is very populated with normal and modded servers.
There's literally no reason why a game can't have both a server browser and matchmaking.
Choosing one over the other is beyond stupid and only divides the audience. You cant defend this decision EA made.
How can you agree with it? It makes no sense considering csgo has a server browser that is very populated with normal and modded servers.
As far as im concerned server lists are only good if the game itself has mod support. I don't this one will.
Otherwise there is literally no benefit that isn't covered by matchmaking.
Well, I was never really interested in getting the game anyway, and this just seals the deal even further.
As for the other discussion, my belief is that Titanfall died because it didn't offer much for its lofty price tag at launch ($60 for a handful of maps and a laughably shitty excuse for a campaign), and being exclusive on Microsoft platforms didn't help it either (nobody wanted an Xbone, the Xbox 360 version was vastly inferior, and PC had Origin tied to it). By the time DLC came out to add more content, people already grew bored of the game and didn't want to spend anymore money on it.
Titanfall is a very solid game, it just fell short in so many other aspects that aren't its core gameplay.
If you go to Twitch, do you just randomly click on a channel playing a game, or do you pick or return to one you like? What if Twitch said you can't do that anymore, you can only pick the game, and it puts you in one of the many streams for it. You might be miffed, not being able to return to the channel you like when you want, not having the regulars you frequently see there and chat with, so on and so forth.
Well having a server browser for a game isn't much different. You find a server you like with a decent ping, you play there a while, you learn who the regulars are and end up having a better time when you join it seeing a couple of the guys you've been gaming with for a while now on that server
I remember playing on the BeerForBreakfast 24/7 Militia server in CS WAY back in beta 7ish. Only server I would play on. Good fun people, active admins, good ping. I returned there because of those reasons and didn't want to play anywhere else
Taking away choice is always bad, especially when that particular choice can very easily be the deciding factor between a playable fun game and a lag fest piece of shit. And then what about server admins? Will there be any? No? Great. So when some asshole hops on with his aimbot we're at his mercy because Punkbuster has never worked. Then if we want to go to another server we may just be put right back in that one. That'll be fun

How about being in a community that's in a server, and not, you know, just join random people of your skill level and joining another set of strangers every time you come back online? That seems like a pretty good benefit.
This also means there will be no custom servers, no hosting local servers for you and your friends, no clan servers, meaning clan battles will be almost non existent.
This is bad for MUCH more then just there being no server browser
Nice, thanks EA for saving me 60 bucks.

What? Who said the game can't have those things? Who said their can't be unranked invite-only games? Games likes Halo let you set up private lobbies with custom rules and you can invite only your friends.
Incoming -25% purchase rates...
GG EA!
But Halo had a server browser on PC though.
Halo 2 is the earliest game I remember that massively incorperated matchmaking
it scanned servers (dedicated an so) for a match that would be suitable for you
or, you could search for a server on the list
Unsure if they had this on Xbox (they did have a server list for halo 2 xbox however)
But this is what H2V had

Why not just have both?
One step forward, two steps back.

Literally every game in history with a "skill based matching system" was annoying.
As far as im concerned server lists are only good if the game itself has mod support. I don't this one will.

Community, different rules, small things that are tweaked like very high ticket numbers. Match making isn't going to have any of that, its going to throw everything into basic categories.
Why would you opt for a system that does nothing but take away choice? What benefit does that create?
It's pretty simple, server community. Dedicated servers. Fun stuff for those who don't just look to play a couple of matches but rather spend some time in one sitting.
Surprisingly enough, many people, me included, enjoy not having in-game VoIP constantly turned off in order not to hear random shit and actually have fun with the same people on a semi-regular basis. You know, without the extra effort of adding them to another iteration of "friends list". Matchmaking is direct opposite of the kind of experience I'm looking for. It's fine that you don't enjoy that, you have your alternative, but why the hell should I be alienated?
What? Who said the game can't have those things? Who said their can't be unranked invite-only games? Games likes Halo let you set up private lobbies with custom rules and you can invite only your friends.
Dedicated server is not the same thing as a private unranked lobby operating via invites. Those two things are worlds apart. In fact, private lobby is a severely castrated substitute for a private server.
I don't see why everyone is so annoyed, I hate having a server browser in Online FPS because it allows people put the most silly restrictions/modifications on gameplay like "Certain weapons only/banned", "Fast XP" or only having certain maps. most of the time server browsers have filtering
But Halo had a server browser on PC though.
I was referring to the X-Box.

At least with Battlefield 3/4 you could filter those out.

It's not as populated as CSS was. The point I was trying to make is they butchered custom servers, you can't even join through friends to get to custom servers. They have to invite you. It's like it was an afterthought this time around.

Its still very populated. And I still don't understand how anything was butchered. Your friends have to invite you so it should be thrown out all together?
[editline]6th September 2015[/editline]
You can join custom servers through your friends list anyway
