I don't know of any gays that freak out when girls hit on them, so if we're so equal in your book, why do you freak out when gays hit on you? 2. Yes, yes you do have to be tolerant in a modern society. Intolerant people don't have any place in modern society (I know ironically that makes me intolerant of intolerant people, but you have to draw the meta-line somewhere) 3. The only way you ever get equal rights is by kicking up a fuss. The civil rights bill for black people didn't just happen. Neither did the decriminalisation of homosexuality. Equal rights require attention.

Tolerance is the minimum necessity. Acceptance is something not all people can do, but all people can and must bring themselves to tolerate.

However it isn't something they have to be. It isn't against the law to be intolerant. At least in public they should be. However for everyone to have acceptance of them isn't going to happen.
