I concur. The idea of finding as many places to tax as possible is certainly appealing. The immigrants would have to pay back taxes, and the money that America would gain from the taxes of 11 million illegals would be insane. Also, if they get taxed to hell, they may not want to stay in America getting people to leave, and solving the problem of illegals through simple taxation.
Welcome to the United Kingdom, may I take your coat?
I find it funny how all these republicans want to keep immigrants out when it was clear that we became an economic super power due to immigration, oh wait right these people don't live on the coasts or anywhere near major cities but in all white suburbia which they for some reason mistake as real America. They're really not that much different than the know nothings back before the civil war whom the first republican president despised.
This is the most logical thing I've seen come out of an American's mouth recently - Hey Republicans, you got any better ideas other than building a bigger wall?
They all pay sales tax
Sales tax is near negligible unless you live in Illinois. However, Chicago does have a large illegal immigrant population... Still, almost nothing compared to income and property tax. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Also, good luck getting people to sign up for citizenship when one of the main reasons they don't is because they don't want to pay the heavier taxes.
:10bux: says it fails to get passed because them damn republicans don't want to see anything but white and blonde hair. My grandma is an illegal German immigrant, and my grandpa an illegal mexican immigrant, and they have both done their part for the states, becoming us citizens, and retiring early and living off retirement and social security. They're great people who only came here to escape the horrors of their country, and they prospered. Sadly, because of the laws, many immigrants now can't prosper and become valuable members of society like my grandparents did, because of assholes in the House....
Such a shame everything in life is a binary choice and we can't choose something, in- between?
spanglish? no thanks
Obama's plan would require illegal immigrants to register with the government, undergo criminal background checks, pay back taxes and fines, learn English and get in line behind people who have already applied to enter the country. Then, they would be eligible to become legal permanent residents in eight years, and full U.S. citizens five years later.
Well, all this sure does sound appealing.
This is a great thing he's doing, and I approve
Sales tax is near negligible unless you live in Illinois.
Really? It's only 7% here. Is that high compared to other states? 7% isn't that bad. If you buy something for $100, it's only a $7 tax, like big deal. I live right by Iowa and I don't even know what the sales tax is over there. :saddowns:
Still, almost nothing compared to income and property tax.
If they're here legally, they won't get paid under the table so they would pay income taxes.
Can someone explain how immigration stimulates an economy?
More people pay taxes, they can now begin to work and the workforce grows. GDP becomes higher because of that.
posts in this thread remind me of that militant guy from machete
While obviously getting illegals into the system to pay taxes and learn english is a good thing, I'm staunchly against amnesty. In my eyes it encourages illegal immigration, which means we will never FIX immigration, just delay the real fix. Not to mention I just do NOT see most of the illegal immigrant population being able to pay all their back taxes and fines as well as learn English. Maybe it'll make them leave of their own accord and give already unemployed Americas some job opportunities.
The only thing broken is the level of security on the border and so many people getting through illegally, the USA citizenship process has worked fine for 200 years. Why change it now?
;29770497']The only thing broken is the level of security on the border and so many people getting through illegally, the USA citizenship process has worked fine for 200 years.
;29770497']The only thing broken is the level of security on the border and so many people getting through illegally, the USA citizenship process has worked fine for 200 years.
Say that 200 years ago and you get the United States as the most isolated nation right next to North Korea.
Now people don't even bother to learn English, they come across illegal an live off welfare. When my family, and many others came to america from Europe, They sought out freedom and worked for it. Without any government programs supporting them. Why change the system to accommodated laziness?
So I guess white immigrants are the only hard workers?
No, but these guys nowadays are coming in illegally and then living off taxpayer money and taking jobs. It just angers me.
;29770699']No, but these guys nowadays are coming in illegally and then living off taxpayer money and taking jobs. It just angers me.
Are you stupid? The only tax payer money we'll ever give them would be social security. Chances are, they won't even be able to get it by the time they retire. And how would immigrants suck off welfare? Wasn't their purpose here to get work as opposed to just simply suck on unemployment benefits and food stamps? The other tax payer money we waste is trying to enforce walls and having guards throw Mexicans back across the border and only to catch them a fifth time crossing.

In a few years, we will also be giving them free healthcare.
Many of them will be on welfare or other government-paid aid programs. In a few years, we will also be giving them free healthcare.
The thing is with free healthcare is that it's provided to all, but the service quality would just go down. Those FOBs would just have a all-expense-paid clinic visit at most. Aid-programs are what is needed to have these people get to stay in America in the first place so that they can actually start paying and working more. If they're so fearful about the immigrants sucking off welfare, the states could easily rectify it's standards and what to do concerning illegal immigrants.
Many of them will be on welfare or other government-paid aid programs. In a few years, we will also be giving them free healthcare.
They already get free healthcare. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] or they do the rare times they go to the hospital. [editline]11th May 2011[/editline] Their hospital visits are paid by your taxpayer money every time they go because they have no insurance.
More viable workers work for more businesses which produce more goods, and these workers are paid more money which they pay back into the economy through taxes and purchases.
Completely ignoring the fact that businesses have no money to spend on more workers right now, which is why they lay off/fire their current workforce.
;29770577']they come across illegal an live off welfare.
except they can't do that at all, you need valid id to do anything financial aid, green card, drivers license, green card, fucking college admission, green card as an immigrant from the UK i can assure you it doesn't work that way
Me wonders how the governments helps to create jobs. Do they just do something like "Ok McDonald's, we need you to hire lots of people. Mmmnnnkay?"
Me wonders how the governments helps to create jobs. Do they just do something like "Ok McDonald's, we need you to hire lots of people. Mmmnnnkay?"
do you even have a rudimentary understanding of history? here's an acronym for you: TVA
Making it more difficult to immigrate into the country will encourage more illegal immigration than amnesty ever would.
Who said anything about doing that? Legally, the process should remain the same. We need to be making it much, much harder to immigrate illegally not legally. That won't encourage more illegal immigration.
Completely ignoring the fact that businesses have no money to spend on more workers right now, which is why they lay off/fire their current workforce.
unless you factor in how the ceo-employee salary ratio has reached nearly 500:1. maybe we could use some of that money gee whoda thoguht [editline]May 12, 2011[/editline]
;29770773']Are you stupid?
except that welfare has a six year maximum, and the welfare rates are below poverty level. barely enough to live on.
