What do you guys want to bet it will have the same texture as SPAM?
hey! Spam is pretty decent.
Meat grown using tissue engineering techniques, so-called 'cultured meat', would generate up to 96% lower greenhouse gas emissions than conventionally produced meat, according to a new study.
isn't it actually called "in vitro meat" [editline]14th July 2011[/editline]
In vitro meat, also known as cultured meat,
ah
hey! Spam is pretty decent.
Yeah, but it has a pretty bland texture.
Yeah, but it has a pretty bland texture.
Not if you cook it right.
Not if you cook it right.
I would still prefer an honest-to-god dead cow.
Awesome. All the bacon in the world, but without the smell of real bacon.
And what if it did smell like "real" bacon? Besides, the smell you think is bacon is only electical signals in your brain due to chemistry inside the meat, so if it is replicated there is no way to destingue it from real meat.
Haven't had this for years haven't we? Mycoprotein (basically a type of fungus) is grown in vats and is used to make this: I actually wouldn't mind eating this instead of meat.

Shh, don't let Greenpeace hear, they don't like malnourished people.
Shh, don't let Greenpeace hear, they don't like malnourished people.
Greenpeace has a problem with genetically engineered food products If this ended up being cell-for-cell the same product as meat but without the sentience I think they would actually welcome it since people could eat the same meat without the possibility of animal cruelty
Wait, there's an issue. Lab-grown meat means that less cows get butchered, therefore more cows exist on the earth to create methane emissions!
Cept less cows would be bred to die, so...
Y'know, vat-grown meat sounds interesting, but what about instead using genetic mad science to create a mutant tree that could actually grow meat on it's branches similar to how many plants grow fruit on theirs. Think of like one of those coral polyp things living on land, sprouting abundant meaty "buds" that're kind of like eggs only with a shell of meat around them. That'd be an interesting type of alien life form for a sci-fi story, come to think of it...
That's our oldest bacon tree over there.
Bacon trees and pork shrubs are awesome, you just have to watch out for ham bushes. They'll sneak up and get you the second you look away from them.
This reminds me of the turdburger
It might be able to change the world, but noone will ever eat it.
But of course, no-one is going to buy it. "it's lab grown waaaaah I only want natural stuff" they say as they type on their computers (which are organi- wait).
"WAAAAH I ONLY WANT REAL MEAT" *eats at Taco Bell*
