In the short term it caused untold numbers of problems, but in the long run it has spread European culture to the point where groups that would otherwise be completely alien to one another have bits and pieces of culture in common. Potentially making for better foreign relations and less warring. Granted there is no solid evidence to base this on, and again imperialism was largely bad, but what is done is done. There is no point crying over it now. We may as well look at what it did and see how its effects can help us now. The same concept can be applied to most wars.
