I'm starting to think that 90% of people hate Obama because he is black and muslim. Whenever I ask people why they hate him, the only answer I get is that he will run the country into the ground; if I try to delve deeper, they'll just say the same thing in different words. If Obama was white and Christian and did the stuff he does now, he would get waayyyy more positive reactions from Republicans and rednecks

So even though they specifically state why, you still assume they're racists without any evidence whatsoever.

I thought George Bush was running the country into the ground.
Then he ran it into the ground.

And that gives evidence to racism how? Lack of an answer automatically equates to racism?

I don't like ob BAMMA becus he's runnin the country into the ground and he's really a KENYAN born in kenya.
I have a coworker who grew up in Hawaii. He's a big surfer dude and is into adventure sports and he's the chillest person I've ever befriended. His dad is very wealthy and he had a privileged education. He told me he met Obama in his younger years during a track meet at school. He says Obama is so pro health care because his mother refused to accept health care from his fathers side of the family since they did not approve interracial relationships or something like that. There is also a big economic rift between the rich white people and the poor indigenous people in Hawaii so that's why Obama is democratic and socialist. It's because he's seen inequality and poverty.
The world is a very small place, it's interesting to make new friends and learn new things.

It's kind of depressing how a lot of islands are like that. If you actually go and look around, you'll find a lot of poverty and the occasional super hotel or wealthy city area.

dude the republican party didn't even pretend to not be doing dog whistle racism until 2004 when they "officially renounced" the southern strategy.
Title made me expect a Old Spice-esque advert featuring Obama....thinking on this a bit more, that would be freaking hilarious.
"My fellow Americans...look at your man, now back to me, now back to your children, now back to Congress."

That's funny, because that's the same unsubstantiated anecdote seen in every book critical of Obama released since 2007!
Odd how many surfers knew Obama when he was a kid. Odder how many of them were friends with political writers.
so that's why Obama is democratic and socialist
obama isn't socialist

We're not talking about Republicans. We're talking about "90% of people" as Glitch360 clearly said were secretly and definitely racist simply because they do not admit a definite issue they have with Obama.

LOL u owned him!!!
Not usual to hear a politician say he had a mistake at all, let alone admit to a "biggest one".
Say what you want about the dude's policy, but you can't say he isn't honest.
Unless you're the kind of person who thinks the moon landing was faked.
on mars.

Whether he really meant 90% of people or meant it as an exaggeration, he still believes a majority of people hate Obama and hate him simply because he's black. Both of which are wrong.
In fact, in 2008, only 3%-5% of Obama's vote was lost due to him being black. (And he still won the election)

Holy cow, that's a crazy statistic nonetheless.
All this weight on Obama sounds really weird from a German perspective. I mean Angela is our international political face, but overall the parliament is more important in a democracy. In American politics it all seems to depend on one guy, which doesn't sounds closer to a kingdom than democracy (in public perception).
Which is strange considering how, apart from Obama care, I've only ever heard of Obama getting blocked by congress.

He's not entirely honest. He's abandoned some of his campaign promises.
He's not entirely honest. He's abandoned some of his campaign promises.
That doesn't mean he didn't mean them when he made them.
That doesn't mean he didn't mean them when he made them.
Whether he did mean it or not is sort of irrelevant if they're abandoned later on. This is true for anyone.
I wonder if an insurgent of hardcore liberals like the Tea Party will rise up if Romney is elected.
That scares me. We don't need one hardcore, noncompromising group let alone two combating each other.
The US is more polarzied then during the Civil War.
Shit's fucked man.

No it isn't.
Not by, like, a mile.
The biggest points of civil rights contention are over non-fundamental rights.
No it isn't.

But is that the biggest point of polarisation?
For the record I agree that the US isn't more polarised, I'm just questioning what the definition of "maximum polarisation" could be - seems unspecifiable, really.
So what is your prediction of the upcoming election?
After what I've seen from Mitt Romney, I'm not very impressed.
I think Obama will win, but there is no guarantee, and it will be a close election.
I think Obama will win, but there is no guarantee, and it will be a close election.
Generally how I feel about it. I think Obama will win, but Romney will definitely give him a run for his money.
