Well, they have a point - there should't only be Christian cross, why not to present other religious symbols? And why the hell should something represent atheism? What can they choose for it?
If you can find a piece of steel from the twin towers that was destroyed into the shape of a Star of David, I'm sure they'd be glad to place it there as well.
Don't tear down one object to remember the lost, instead, put up another.
they tried
They're not pursuing this lawsuits because they're assholes, they're suing because they wanted EVERYBODY represented equally and were told that it wouldn't happen.
As long as other religions are allowed to erect their own signs then I there shouldn't be any fuss. [editline]17th August 2012[/editline]
they tried
Oh, kind of dickish.
Well, not unless it was upside down or something. :v:
(stated already by Zee Captain) The Apostle John, according to scripture, was crucified upside-down, for he found himself unworthy to be in the same position as Christ.
Oh, kind of dickish.
kinda the whole reason for this bullshit but remember kids, these atheists are assholes for daring to want equal representation of all religions here
Unless, you know, there was a significant historical background linking the cross to the event.
If you scroll down you will see that I actually said that. [editline]17th August 2012[/editline]
kinda the whole reason for this bullshit but remember kids, these atheists are assholes for daring to want equal representation of all religions here
16 dumbs in my opening post where I say they have a case for equal representation of people regardless of religious beliefs. Atleast now I have enough boxes to hold all my copies of Richard Dawkins books.
kinda the whole reason for this bullshit but remember kids, these atheists are assholes for daring to want equal representation of all religions here
It's quite easy for Christians and Atheist fence-sitters to say "oh these are radical assholes", but the fact of the matter is this cross is being used as as much a religious symbol as it is a cultural one.
16 dumbs in my opening post where I say they have a case for equal representation of people regardless of religious beliefs.
I noticed. that was completely uncalled for
If anything, the word 'Jesus' should be burned/ironed out out of the memorial if it is to stay erect at the site. It'd at least be somewhat less 'violating' to those who are against it. (I'm an Atheist, just so you know.)
(I'm an Atheist, just so you know.)
Thanks for that useful info, U.S.S.R., I wouldn't have guessed that. :v:
Thanks for that useful info, U.S.S.R., I wouldn't have guessed that. :v:
I just put that there because my method of writing made me seem like a Christian or something, quoting the word violating and all.
made me seem like a Christian or something
Yeah, that would've been terrible.
Yeah, that would've been terrible.
why the fuck are you being so passive aggressive he didn't even come close to implying being christian was a bad thing
Oh sorry if it sounds like I'm being passive agressive, I'm just joking light heartily.

It appears to me the cross was made at the site. Made in the heat of the moment, not made for giving all the other religions the finger. You guys are just getting mad at nothing.[sp]like always?[/sp]
If you can find a piece of steel from the twin towers that was destroyed into the shape of a Star of David, I'm sure they'd be glad to place it there as well.
I have a good feeling they wouldn't be so glad if it was the star and crescent that was requested to be put up.
Actually a upside down cross symbolizes one of Jesus followers that was curfiied upside down because he said he wasn't worthy enough to die the same way as Jesus. So a upside down cross if more pro-christian then a regular one :v:
If anyone cares it was Saint Peter, one of the 12 apostles.
I have a good feeling they wouldn't be so glad if it was the star and crescent that was requested to be put up.
Im sure any reasonable person wouldn't mind.
Im sure any reasonable person wouldn't mind.
The problem is there are plenty of unreasonable people involved in these sort of issues.
The problem is there are plenty of unreasonable people involved in these sort of issues.
Unfortunately. I really don't understand how someone can put some much time and effort into getting something removed that doesn't effect the in the least bit.
The problem is there are plenty of unreasonable people involved in these sort of issues.
These unreasonable people usually are the cause for this kind of issue.
Im sure any reasonable person wouldn't mind.
For some historical context when it comes to Muslims and 9/11, the conservative right in this country didn't even want them to build a community center located near the site. If you think there wouldn't be outrage from a Muslim memorial you are insane.
I agree with them, I mean not only Christians died in 9/11, Jews, Muslims, Hindus died in 9/11
I agree with them, I mean not only Christians died in 9/11, Jews, Muslims, Hindus died in 9/11
Why must all religious groups have equal representation? Its just something they found in the wreckage, they didnt ship it in or anything.
I still don't get why it's so awful that someone wrote "Jesus" on it. Where does it say "All other religions don't exist and no one else but christians suffered"? Exactly: It doesn't It's harmless
The irony of the situation being that if someone wanted to actually put a Flying Spaghetti Monster up besides the cross, then that would be the most disrespectful thing of all.
For some historical context when it comes to Muslims and 9/11, the conservative right in this country didn't even want them to build a community center located near the site. If you think there wouldn't be outrage from a Muslim memorial you are insane.
I said any reasonable person. Just because a certain group would do it doesn't make it right for another.
Have some respect, for fucks sake. I'm an Atheist too, however this is taking it too far.
Do you mean show respect by allowing Christians label all the victims of 9/11 as Christians? I'm p sure a lot of the victims were muslims, jews, atheists, etc. Putting up a cross is disrespectful to those people.
The cross really doesn't bother me at all but I find it funny that you guys still care about 9/11, not that it wasn't a hofficic day but it quickly becoming a national day of anti muslismism. Edit: The word worship was probably missplaced :P
The cross really doesn't bother me at all but I find it funny that you guys still care about 9/11, not that it wasn't a hofficic day but you guys seem to worship that date.
Clearly you're wearing Benjamin Franklin's glasses or something because I can't see where you're getting that from.
