Is widespread easy access to coke and meth a good thing? I know FP is overwhelmingly pro-drugs, but even the hard stuff that really messes people up and ruins lives? And the FBI is the bad guy for enforcing the law on that?
The idea isn't that people won't ruin their lives with drugs. It's just that in a legal drug society they will be better educated about how to safely use drugs of any category, and there wouldn't be so many social taboos about drug use and ones that lead to drug use. Another benefit being unclogging prisons with non-violent offenders and offering widespread rehabilitation to those who want it with the funds saved.
?
Because children who take their own lives up until now have been getting permission beforehand
The point being that if e.g. they are discovered before carrying it out then people won't be legally culpable for stopping them.
thank god it shut down, the amount of weed overdoses that happened were ridiculous
if you arent straight edge you're square and should seek jesus as your lord and savior!!
I'll keep this in mind next time someone commits suicide because of depression, bullying, or whatever else.
Honestly, as much as I support access to safe drugs, you could also rent botnets, buy guns, acquire hacking services, among other not so noble services as well. In all reality they were begging for it. If SR were just safe quality drugs I wouldn't have mixed feelings abut them shutting down, but they weren't and I do.
Not to mention the fact that scams did happen semi-frequently. SR is the definition of the lawless unregulated markets created by making drugs illegal. Shutting them down will accomplish nothing but further spread out the illegal markets and make everything that much harder to track. If drugs were legal and SR was mainly for guns instead, would you all feel the same way?

good thing the drug war isn't considered non-essential!!!!

I'm all for legalizing pot and really don't mind LSD, ecstasy, and other 'soft' drugs but I think you oughta draw a line somewhere and SR was selling everything.
there is already widespread easy access to cocaine and methamphetamine. i'v found dealers of both just walking down the street asking people if they "smoke shit". in seattle i'v had people boldly walk up to me and ask if i wanted to buy cocaine or crack.
the question is whether widespread easy access of pure drug is a good thing. should pure, uncut versions of drugs be accessible to people who want to consume these drugs?
That only means that general purity of drugs is going to fall, and that is a bad thing. It was the only sure source.

i don't see the point you're making
if you're buying drugs to get high for fun that's one thing, if you're buying guns anonymously then you're probably going to do not so legal things with them
everyone's just mad because sr was usually a quality place for drugs, and it's sad that people should have to go this far just to get weed lol

black markets are black markets. the same place where you buy one sort of illegal item or service will probably, at the very least, have connections to other people or places where you can buy other illegal items or services.
I would be more concerned about the (manufacturer) guy making meth in his basement as opposed to a guy running the actual marketplace.
So anyone have a list of alternative sites?
Or are they are shit right now till a phoenix rises from the ashes?

this is exaggerating
sure people used it, but a ton more people just find a dealer somewhere

Right, and if drugs were legal would you then still fight places like SR being shut down? If safe quality drugs are available legally SR would not have to exist/be a solely criminal enterprise that can clearly be shut down without argument.

yeah my friend injected 3 marijuana needles and now he's a homosapiens

pretty much. i'm against shit that actually harms other people. i'm not against the sale of drugs that are voluntarily consumed by a customer.
I think the fact that the owner hired contract killers to "take care of" any problems that got in the way of his empire is pretty shocking.

ironically he ended up being the problem that got in the way of his "empire".

Do you guys have a single fact to back that up? No government slander pls.

IRL hisenberg.
Terrifying dude, but at least his service probably saved more lives than it took.

And what if drugs become legal, and the government gives a complete monopoly on the market to a few companies? Or make the production and sale of weed a state-run monopoly, like in Uruguay?

Try reading the criminal complaint. The fact that he was the owner of this terrible website to begin with pretty much makes no slander is even needed. It's a horrible website and I'm glad it has been taken down. It wasn't just drugs they were selling on this thing.

assuming the story we got is the true one at least...

Hitman services, guns, child porn or anything that harms another person is not allowed on that site so please tell me what's so horrible that "wasn't just drugs"
For example, DPR's private-message communications from March and April 2013 reveal at least one occasion when DPR solicited a murder-for-hire of a certain Silk Road user. [. . .] DPR provided a name for FriendlyChemist, and stated that he lived in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada with "Wife + 3 kids." DPR added "Let me know if it would be helpful to have his full address. [. . .] DPR and redandwhite agreed upon a price of 1,670 Bitcoins - approximately $150,000 - for the job [. . .] Approximately 24 hours later, redandwhite updated DPR, stating: "Your problem has been taken care of. Rest easy though, because he won't be blackmailing anyone again. Ever. [. . .] redandwhite sent DPR a picture of the victim after the job was done.
Yeah, that kind of shit wasn't allowed to be displayed publicly. Privately, especially between trusted users and admins, it was going on.
The comedy never stops

That's still better than giving control to cartels and gangsters. In all of it's unfairness it's still better.

Then you didn't look far into it. It was going on. Why are you even trying to use this arguement when the owner himself has murdered people? He didn't just waltz into the street and ask for hitmen to kill his enemies.
