I would actually like to have some hammer drones kick some terrorist ass if we have the technology and money to fund that shit.
I was expecting this to be funded by Larry Ellison, since he has a massive hard-on for Iron Man.

I think Starcraft hit the spot when it comes to Exoskeleton design.
Blizzard is great when it comes to exaggerated designs and the Starcraft armor has the "cool" factor down, but I don't see a suit like that being even remotely practical. Weight would be excessive, mobility would be severely hampered, and it would require a colossal power source as well as a redesign of some of our infantry weaponry to fit the larger proportions. Not to mention the exposed joints and hydraulics which are bound to cause problems.
As far as practical designs go, Elysium, Edge of Tomorrow, and Call of Duty Advanced Warfare are probably closer to the mark for our near-future levels of technology.

You pilot it with your arms at your sides, the controls for the arms are in the legs.
idk

The only spot it hits is your dislocated shoulders and hips. Did the designers of that even look at the anatomy of a human?
I understand it's literally just a space marine but slightly different so they didn't get sued, but they fucked up the proportions so hard and they didn't go over the top like Warhammer 40k. They tried to be serious about it and that's exactly why I can't take it serious.
RTSes in general are not going to have realistic exosuits. Units in RTS games are generally designed to be as noticeable and distinguishable as possible. Even in realistic art-styles, elements are exaggerated to help this. It's not a fault of the game; the goal was not to create something that could seemingly feasibly fit around a human. It was to create something that looked like a excessively large human, so human body proportions were kept.

Starcraft marines don't have realistic proportions even without their suits. Intentional design choice.

It's probably been mentioned already, but wasn't the entire point of Iron Man 2 that giving the military Iron Man suits would be a poor idea?
Iron Man suits should only be accessible to genius, billionaire, playboy philanthropists.

I wonder if you couldn't run a decent exosuit on a small IC engine. I'm thinking 50cc motorbike engine, maybe a gallon of gas. Have the engine turn a dynamo, similar to most gas-powered generators, and store the charge in the same sort of Lithium Ion cell configuration they use in most hybrid cars (it's a suitcase-sized brick of batteries. They weigh about 50-100lbs, well within range for most military gear.)
From there, you could set up your motorized joints, computer systems, whatever, as long as you keep power draw low enough. You would have to make sure your motors could support the weight of the generator, as well as an extra couple hundred pounds for gear, armor, etc.
Yes, you'd have a walking bomb in a shambling exoskeleton with reduced maneuverability, a fairly short range, and no discernible enhanced ability, but it'd be an exoskeleton nonetheless. I'd imagine we'll probably see a system like that before we go too futuristic, and the program will be canned before it sees any real progress.

Clearly you must stick your arms out straight and then bend elbow 90*. In the same position as doing 'the robot'

That might work for an early prototype. I think the earliest deployed units that we'll see will probably use a combination of batteries and kinetic energy and then they'll scale upwards from there.
Who knows what crazy shit they're coming up with though?
Reminds me of the lore behind the early Mjolnir suits in the Halo universe. The early ones were essentially complete shit and ran on giant cables that were towed across battlefields by trucks that generated power with enormous diesel engines that made perfect targets. It had like 3 minutes of battery life outside of those or something.
So kinda like the EVAs?

Kinda like this:

All starcraft guys who wear that armor look like giant unproportional bunches of muscles anyway.

This exoskeleton with heavy armor, a mounted weapon of some sort, and a HUD would more or less satisfy the criteria of what the military wants for Talos.
I wonder how an exoskeleton will affect weapon design. Some of the power used to boost your strength and responses could be used to make your weapons more accurate and severely cut down on recoil, while broadening the amount of weapons one could use.

quite most of really modern weapons has barely any recoil ...
(yes I fired some, anyone can handle those)
I would expect more heavy weapons to see light for infantry if exoskeletons are standard
but for start it will be just more ammo

Yeah, one of my friends got to shoot an AR-15 while we were in the army.
He said that compared to the RK-62 (basically a copy of AK-47) it had NO recoil.
I kinda imagine it to look like the exo suits of edge of tomorrow. I felt it looked pretty real.
Well, the movie's helmet is actually a real ballistic helmet in current military service, and it looks like the armor panels underneath the exosuit chassis are shaped like actual armor carriers. So it looks real for a good reason, I suppose.
They should be focusing on building Liberty Prime
