In the 20's the said it would take them at least 50 years before they could give the Jews independence and in the late 30's they said it would take at least 40 years. Maybe shot at wasn't the right word, basically what had happened was that the Israeli troops had rounded up all the men in the small village he lived in. They were ordered to stand in a circle with their heads down. One of the soldiers thought it would be fun to start shooting them in the back of their heads, so he did. But then his gun jammed. I don't know how severely he was disciplined, because their commander didn't seem to care when he learned about it.
