Same here in Germany. Low birthrates suggest that we're in pretty much the same situation; But we don't have animes. Fuck.
It's not exactly the same situation. While western populations are aging, they're aging because most families have only one, at best two children. But a large segment of the population does. This is mostly because kids are very expensive either in money or time.
The moment governments in Europe increase the incentives to have kids and makes certain that mothers with more than one child are still viable in employment, populations will probably get better once more.
Japan on the other hand has deep cultural issues with having children. A large segment of their population remains virgins and many women refuse to have children of a fear of being left behind in the employment sector.
Plus there's big apparently a problem with japanese men being unable to approach japanese women due to once more cultural issues.
Families that do have children though tend to have more than families in Europe.
It's really two different problems.
Silly westerners, still having your babies the natural way.

Wasn't there an article a few months ago that said smarter people had less children? Could it also be that raising children is too expensive in a continent with overpopulation issues and it's pretty much counterbalancing (Albeit more of a knee jerk)?
It's more the latter, I can't imagine the Idiocracy thing being *that* much of an issue.

They also grow up no learning this from real life experience, but through dating games.
This is a pretty crazy generalization.
sTATISTICAL EVIDENCE
NOTHING WILL CHANGE FOR 48 YEARS THIS IS COMPLETELY TRUE!!!!
Japan needs to invade somewhere so that they can have more space...
They should invade China or North Korea.
japan has plenty of space, the major cities? Not so much
They're QQing about a 10% sale's tax? Really? I've had to deal with one since...well, since I could remember buying things. It isn't that bad.
Same here in Germany. Low birthrates suggest that we're in pretty much the same situation; But we don't have animes. Fuck.
You have Porsche. Porsche is worth more than every anime on earth.
...and then you have BMW. Which is worth as much as Porsche.
...and then ya'll have the Nurburgring, where we go to crash our Porsches and BMWs.
You guys are set. Don't worry. There will always be people buying 911s and M3s. :v:
This is a pretty crazy generalization.
Its a generalization based on a study they did that found 1 in 3 Japanese women felt they couldn't compete with dating games.

They already did, there are MASSIVE incestives to have lots of a children and for families that do, they usually have 3 to 4 children.
It just their culture is headed in the direction where neither gender can actually communicate which is breaking down any form of incentive to get together.
Was that on purpose.
Population capacity reached, and the first to be affected was Japan, guys, this is biology at work here.

They can't. 3D women are gross.
Fuck the modern aspects of Japanese society, I'd love to live in Japan because of the amazing parks and natural landscape.
The historical aspects of Japan are also very interesting, and I could see myself living there for a few years and never stepping foot in any of the pop districts.

As much I support Noda's measure to save social services, it's a more nuanced issue than just "they're crying about a sales tax".
Population capacity reached
Uh, no?
who gives a flying fuck what japan will be in 2060
im more interested in what will be left of the earths resources by 2060

More like the workings of socioeconomic factors such as better quality of life, longer life expectancy, more opportunities to develop your career and so on.
The Japanese population has had a low birth rate for a long time, mostly because many women pursue careers rather than marry young and have children. It's a cultural issue that isn't grounded in anime, which is incidentally all you guys think about the moment you hear Japan

Nooooot really, I think about 80-hour work weeks, social recluses, and a nation stubbornly seeped in it's own ancient traditions, rituals, and social values.
i have a huge problem with predictions that jump to conclusions 50 years beforehand
there are so many factors that these things don't take into account
No. My hot Japanese women!
Any decline in the number of women is negative, duh.
Oh... Then maybe we should get them some more birth control to decrease there population even more.
are you being serious right now

Good.
Less overpopulation means less burden on the natural ecosystems.

Hey, I say if you want a good relationship, good pay and you have a marketable skill or profession, it might be a good idea to go to Japan :v:
Seeing as the men are apparently "grass eaters" you just have to be a bit aggressive and you'll have some of that Japanese booty in no time. Top that off with some amazing countrysides and the tasty food and you've got yourself a tasty combo :v:

Can you say with certainty it's not the other way around, and that factors drove their population to a particularly high peak, and time is simply doing as it does and bringing them back down to equilibrium?
Good.

Malthus has been proven wrong for the past 2 centuries. Technological developments and improving lives in other parts of the world are slowly rising food production to keep in line with population growth.
This earth can support billions more people, and to celebrate the fact that whole races of people are dying out is fucking disgusting.
