Eat shit Ajit Pai, and whoever voted to repeal.
Watch as the US tech industry stagnates because all small to midsized companies find themselves unable to pay for "high speed" internet. Hell I wouldnt be surprised if we see ISPs pushing for caps on the number of unique visitors until you fork over more cash
I mean it's basically the economic equivalent of watching someone join the police force so that they can take money to let their friends and acquaintances go around stabbing people with impunity. Whether or not it's government tyranny, it is a failure in the government, as honestly I'd expect the government not to be staffed by people who are intent on fucking me and the vast majority of other people over for the gain of their business partners.
I haven't seen anybody argue that it isn't a failure of government. It's cronyism. It's corruption. It's betrayal of public trust. Those are undeniably bad things; there's no need to inject hysterics like calling it tyranny or slavery or any other inapplicable descriptors just to make it sound bad. This isn't downplaying anything, or saying that because it's not tyranny it's okay. It's just important to be able to accurately identify why measures like this are bad if you want to have any hope of communicating to the public why they need to care. If I knew nothing about Net Neutrality but heard that some people support it because the alternative is 'government tyranny', I'd probably write it off as a fringe libertarian belief rather than give it the attention it deserves. Words matter.
Would this also affect online gaming? would I have to buy a steam bundle or something to be able to play online with people?
Absolutely, and I suspect gaming will be one of the first targets.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Communications_Commission#Commissioners
It is important to note that Internet access is not a necessity in the day-to-day lives of Americans and doesn’t even come close to the threshold to be considered a basic human right... People do a disservice by overstating its relevancy or stature in people’s lives. People can and do live without Internet access, and many lead very successful lives. ” — Michael O'Rielly, June 25 2015, Slate
It's these people. The quote on Michael O'Rielly's page is nice.
"basic human right" your organizations job is to make sure that COMMUNICATIONS of all forms, including the internet are not TAMPERED WITH you The internet makes getting a job (By the way, many places will only accept online applications), paying bills, paying taxes, and even getting paid hundreds of times easier. Without it, you're objectively in a worse position because it allows you to have a far more significant access. Saying it does a disservice by overstating its stature doesn't even make any sense, and saying that people can live without it is such a non-sense point, you could basically say this about health care, gay marriage, dental insurance, electricity, a car, people can live without these things and be successful or happy, what even is your point. Just because people have lived happy and healthy lives without something doesn't make it totally useless to have these things. Because everyone can just live successful lives without electricity, or gas, should we allow a company to do whatever they want and discriminate against certain companies, charging Walmart three times for the same amount of electricity? Listen man, free market will solve it, right? Lets not forget that you're arguing in favor of what multi billion dollar companies want against literally the majority of everyone because its "not a basic right", how much cocaine did you smoke this morning, are you blind? This entire line is an absolute load of trash. It's not even an argument for anything sensible. At least as that companies shouldn't be hindered like a good boy.
Waiting for the riots at this point. My roommate has a long distance relationship of six years and his family is poor. Ajit Pai essentially just gave her relationship a countdown.
I have someone in VA in which its easier to chat via video or text than a lot of public transportation. These supposed bills will make it harder for those talking state to state, especially me when I move out and the job that I have will not be enough money. Hell the fucking rent here will be cheaper than any bill about to be proposed by fucking Comcast and AT&T.

If we are to move forwards as a country, we need to remove this corruption from our government and put safeguards in place to ensure that those with a motive to profit at the expensive of the body politic are not able to so thoroughly infiltrate our institutions.
Wasn't the whole point of the second amendment to be able to fight back against government tyranny?
this is probably late, but that amendment was real fine and good back before drones were a thing
this is probably late, but that amendment was real fine and good back before drones were a thing
In a hypothetical revolt under military-policing, tanks and drones are going to be nigh useless. You can't just send a Predator Drone over to an office building to blow up John Smith and his AK. You're going to cause a shitload of collateral damage and ensure any loyal population that is complying will take up arms against you. Tanks as well, only this time you can actually maybe sort of have a chance at disabling/destroying that piece of hardware. The only practical usage of drones when you've gone full fascist is to obliterate armored vehicles, which your average Joe with a Winchester has neither the time, knowledge, or resources to construct. That just leaves boots on the ground with AFVs for intimidation, which is going to go as well as Vietnam did with urban fighting getting soldiers in an unknown environment killed by the locals who know the land, and we're assuming that the military remains cohesive under the orders of "shoot Americans". Ignoring all that, a revolt is a horrible idea. We're not completely fucked yet, and even if the Atom Bomb gets dropped on the internet, we'll be able to just wait it out for another three years or less before someone else takes office and undoes everything Trump did.

literally every US streamer went down at once on twitch. they really are impatient
Welp, R.I.P. Scotus isn’t gonna do shit about it since it’s stacked with republicans
My ISP just called me to ask if I'm interested in upgrading my service :v:
My ISP just called me to ask if I'm interested in upgrading my service :v:
My folks just got a call saying that “pricing will change soon”
My ISP just called me to ask if I'm interested in upgrading my service :v:
What ISP do you have?
What ISP do you have?
charter spectrum
I honestly believe there is a special ring in hell for those who own ISP's or pander to them. They are vultures and they have jumped the gun because they know now that the precedent is set the worst they'll get is a slap on the wrist of a few million.
literally every US streamer went down at once on twitch. they really are impatient
any more context behind this? whats going on :v:
any more context behind this? whats going on :v:
I was watching Summit tournament for Dota 2 w/ about 50k people watching. Their stream crashed and I refreshed to Dota 2 page and all US streamers (who are usually the top streamers) were all gone. I checked all of the other top streamers on twitch (all US streamers) and they were all off even though they were scheduled to be on. [editline]14th December 2017[/editline] If you look at Twitch analytics it fucking plummets
Who needs information when you're living in constant fear?
charter spectrum
I also have Spectrum...no calls just yet. Although last night my service went out for about 5 minutes and now I have 86Mbps down and 11.2 up. Normally runs at around 62/5. V:v:V

Wow that's one Hell of an unflattering Twitter thumbnail, but she's also only partially right. We're not being abandoned, we're being sold off.
Good grief, Pie-hole's smugness knows no bounds.
-snip long-
[t]https://i.imgur.com/DIUp6Wu.png[/t] I'm amazed at how annoying and addicted to getting a zinger this dude is I'm the kind of guy that would yell "So when do they fuck" during a film with classmates, the way I act in FP is basically how 'carefree' I guess I could say I actually am. Even I find this dude to be pretty annoying, he needs to tone it down lmao
Is it optimistic to think that the first ISP to incite the envisioned fees will lose a fuck ton of business (outside single-ISP areas)?

I didn't think it would literally happen as simply as the proverbial flip of a switch.
I'm streaming live tv to my xbox and noticing its going off too damn often than it did before. :v:
Wow, it's already starting? I don't have that provider but that's pretty shitty of them to have basically creamed themselves enough at the prospects of it to prepare super early.
