Whatever happened to blocking someone who's harassing you and that being the end of it?
Honestly, if you're facing a real bully and not just a troll, blocking them only makes it worse.
I don't see how reporting incidents like "Jimmy called me a fag on the internet" to the state government is going to prevent cyberbullying
We're dealing with children not grown men.
Do we really need another 30+ pages of people who clearly have no fucking clue what bullying is?
At least its not the people who argue that bullying can only be physical.
We're dealing with children not grown men.
And what's the government going to do about it
You don't have to be involved with the government to be disappointed with them. What's the last involvement you had with your government, pray tell? Did you send an angry email to your senator that got canned by one of their temps?
Actually, the last time I got involved was during this whole shut down. I sent 5 or 6 emails and two hand written letters to my congressmen. And you need to be involved, that's why its a democracy. A government for the people by the people, without the god damn people can't function right. Grow up and stop thinking that sitting on the sidelines gives you some right to bitch.

Now can I complain about how ineffectual this is again?
Petitioning the government to fix the bullying problem is washing your hands of the issue and telling the government to do something about it. Why can't you have direct involvement with the schools again?
ok let's stop funding the schools then it's our job to stop telling the government to do everything and just have every parent educate their own kids [editline]9th October 2013[/editline] why the fuck are some parents so lazy
Actually, the last time I got involved was during this whole shut down. I sent 5 or 6 emails and two hand written letters to my congressmen.
ok let's stop funding the schools then it's our job to stop telling the government to do everything and just have every parent educate their own kids
Yeah that's exactly what I said, it's not like I want parents to try to actually raise their children correctly.
And what's the government going to do about it
Tell the schools what to do about it ie what this bill does.
Yeah that's exactly what I said, it's not like I want parents to try to actually raise their children correctly.
so what about the parents who don't raise their kids correctly? or the parents who do raise their kids correctly and still have their children get bullied?
Okay I sent an email to my congressmen, I await a canned response from an intern somewhere in the Capitol. Now can I complain about how ineffectual this is again?
Sure go ahead. If you voted that person in, if you've tried contacting them and it gets nowhere, you have every right to bitch. If you've done none of that, congrats, you weren't involved then why should you be involved now? Its really that god damn simple.
so what about the parents who don't raise their kids correctly? or the parents who do raise their kids correctly and still have their children get bullied?
Then the school should intervene? But oh wait lol the government funds the schools, right! See I actually fucking agree with you, I just think that it's important to differentiate bullying and cyberbullying and that the big mondo fuckin' government shouldn't be the one to wipe your kids ass when he gets sworn at by a couple of asshole kids.
differentiate bullying and cyberbullying
what is the difference except that one happens through electronic communication?
what is the difference except that one happens through electronic communication?
There really isn't a difference.
what is the difference except that one happens through electronic communication?
How can you tie a name between your cyberbully and someone in real life? How do you determine if a threat is legitimate considering the internet lacks physical presence and text messages lack emotion? It's a lot blurrier online than it is in real life, especially since real life bullying often has physical contact in the mix as well
How can you tie a name between your cyberbully and someone in real life?
It can be physical in a different sense, just think of all the 'revenge porn' that gets put out there.
How much of that actually happens to kids?
How much of that actually happens to kids?
I wouldn't know off hand, I don't think anyone's done a study on it. But it is a growing 'market' in the porn community.
I wouldn't know off hand, I don't anyone's done a study on it. But it is a growing 'market' in the porn community.
At which point it becomes literal child porn which is a crime, so that's out of the school's hands entirely. Unless they set up programs aimed at preventing bullying, which this bill does not enforce.

Unless they set up programs aimed at preventing bullying, which this bill does not enforce.
Its literally set up to record data and put cyberbullying in the same scope as bullying. So what's the problem?
Sure go ahead. If you voted that person in, if you've tried contacting them and it gets nowhere, you have every right to bitch. The parents writing to their congressmen wont matter because as you explained, there parents don't have time to be with their kids and know what they're being taught. And how about fixing the whole "parents being overworked" thing instead of trying to fix the problems it causes.
Its literally set up to record data and put cyberbullying in the same scope as bullying. So what's the problem?
That's a gross oversimplification of a bill that fails to realize the root issue of the problem in the first place.
That's a gross oversimplification of a bill that fails to realize the root issue of the problem in the first place.
what is the root issue?
"lol y dnt those lil fags just grow up and stop being hurt by bullies"
It looks like you're posting like this more and more often. Are you just not trying anymore?
When the government starts parenting children, the future voters, what's going to happen? They're going to teach them what benefits the government most. I don't see either option being grand or good in any way shape or form.
what is the root issue?
Under normal circumstances I would answer this, but I have never seen a more blatant hook being cast out there. Nice try, though.
Under normal circumstances I would answer this, but I have never seen a more blatant hook being cast out there. Nice try, though.
yea it's a hook being cast because i want to know what you think the root issue is that causes bullying that way we can actually discuss it. because you are acting as though the root issue is something incredibly obvious that we should all immediately be able to identify.
Honestly, if you're facing a real bully and not just a troll, blocking them only makes it worse.
Please elaborate.
